This week I have decided to plump for three Scottish artists that you can catch at today's Stag & Dagger Festival which is taking place across various venues in Glasgow. Showcasing a wealth of local talent alongside an array of touring acts, it looks like it could be a cracking day out. Personally I am not going as I'd already arranged to meet friends to watch the Champions League Final, but hey if you are going make sure you check out Miaoux Miaoux and Adam Stafford, they're both braw! The Phantom Band - Fujiyama (Moondog cover) [...]

I am sure that most of you are already aware that the inaugural longlist for the Scottish Album of the Year Award was announced this week and I think it's safe to say that the list took quite a few people by surprise. To be honest with you I don't really know what I was expecting, but from the 20 albums that made the long list there are a few that I was genuinely surprise to see on there and a whole lot more that I had plain old never heard of. I guess it's the eclectic nature [...]

The Twilight Sad Kilsyth's finest sons are all set to release their much anticipated third album (proper), No One Can Ever Know, next month. Having heard the album I reckon it's going to take a lot of folk by surprise with the new direction they've taken. As a wee teaser of what to expect, you can download Another Bed from it for free via both the Skinny and Spin . Aloha Tigers! My good friend Ian, who used to run the blog Have Fun At Dinner has set [...]
logo designed by Bob Rafferty Three years ago I decided that it might be fun to run a poll amongst my fellow bloggers and folk who run music sites in Scotland, to try and find out what the definitive album of that year really was. In its inaugural year The Phantom Band pipped Animal Collective to claim top spot, then last year I did it all again with The National topping that list. This year I managed to rope in a whopping 47 folk to take part in choosing their [...]

So, this week ends with a massive extravaganza of Toadliness, but it does look like it'll be relatively quiet along the way as there doesn't seem to be that much else around until the weekend. Which is actually alright, sort of, because it gives me a chance to get my shit together in advance of a very busy weekend indeed. Quite how we're going to sort the logistics of getting half the bands in Edinburgh to and from Anstruther on Sunday I don't know, but I am sure we'll manage somehow. Anyhow, in the meantime there [...]

It's half time in the rugby and I am incredibly pumped up, my heart tells me that Scotland are going to do it. My more sensible head tells me it's all going to end in glorious failure. Having been up since the back of five I am starting to think that I must be due a little bit of luck, then again rarely ever does luck favour Scotland when it comes to sport. It might be a bit daft to let one wee game of ruby have such a massive bearing on my mood for the rest of the day, [...]

After the success of last years innaugural Eastern Promise music event, Platform in Glasgow have just announced that the event is set to return on Friday the 30th of September and Saturday the 1st of October. In it's first outing the event featured an array of local talent including King Creosote and Malcolm Middleton's alter ego, Human Don't be Angry playing alongside international artists such as Rachel Grimes and Josephine Foster. This year is no different, with the event being run over 2 rooms featuring performances from To Rococo Rot, Tarwater, The Pastels, The Thing, Silje Nes, Withered [...]

Yoo hoo internets, I'm ba-aack! With a friend visiting, and in no mood to waste his holiday watching me fanny about on the computer, I ended up taking an unplanned day off yesterday. We even did one of those tourist things which it is so easy to ignore when you actually live in a city: we climbed Arthur's Seat . And it was bloody amazing! So what, after a weekend of endurance drinking, does this week hold in store? Well, the general idea was 'as much sleep as I can manage', but it looks like this might [...]

The week we are keeping the Scottish vibes on the go with the world famous (In Scotland at least) Tunnocks Tea Cakes . Chocolate, Marshmallow and biscuit, say no more! Moving on from this we have some cracking tunes lined up this week. News just came in that lo fi electronica outfit Balam Acab have an album on the way. After their amazing "See Birds" EP last year, we were hoping for more of the same and it looks like we are going to get it. The new album "Wander/Wonder" is out in [...]

Right, after an unspeakable beast of a week last week, handling the diciest of dicey session, lost bands, exploding PAs and jetlag, this shall be the week of brutal efficiency. Vorsprung Durch Technik and all that sort of thing. It is also the week we finalise the Lach masters, the King Post Kitsch vinyl master for the Don't You Touch My Fucking Honeytone single (May 16th) and get the print press promotional work moving for his album, The Party's Over. Things, in short, are in full swing. Lower Dens, The Scottish Enlightenment and Edinburgh School for [...]

Ira Conquering Animal Sound - Ira by [...]

The album is out in the US tomorrow. Details, as always, below: Mogwai in Ireland by [...]

Panda Su It feels like ages since we've heard anything new from the awesome Panda Su, her last EP, 'Sticks & Bricks' was a particular favourite round these parts, and she is now set to release her follow-up EP 'I Begin' in late April. She kicks off a UK tour tonight in Edinburgh at Sneaky Pete's, so if you're in that neck of the woods then get yourself down, oh and make sure you get down early as I Build Collapsible Mountains is supporting. As a prelude to what you can expect from her new EP she's posted [...]

There is something quite peculiar and intriguing about Sea of Bees aka "Jules" Ann Baenziger. She is totally unassuming and frankly it is a little shocking to hear her wail these beautiful notes with such ease like in the video for "The Woods." Sea of Bees just signed to Heavenly Recordings, who just released the Conquering Animal Sound remix of her song "Wizbot" that was on last year's Songs for the Ravens . Here are a couple of videos by Sea of Bees for you two to get better acquainted. Sea of Bees - Wizbot [...]
