Canada's beloved indie label Arts & Crafts is celebrating 10 glorious years with a special compilation record, X . The collection brings together bands from the label's roster for original compositions, like the just-released Broken Social Scene/Years collaboration "Day of the Kid" , plus covers of songs from Arts & Crafts' past. In the latter category, Ra Ra Riot and The Darcys team up to tackle "Time Can Be Overcome" by Constantines . Taken from the band's one A&C release (incidentally their last before taking a break), [...]

Last month, Young Live debuted his newest production series "Lux Trap" with the first volume named " Lux Trap : Caligula " which included a couple of great gems like the remixes of Yasmin and Lil Mouse. This month, the time has come for the second "Lux Trap"-installment and I must say, now when almost every single submission that drops into my inbox is some attempt of trap it's nice to get something original as this EP entitiled "Lux Trap : Constantine" [...]

Bry Webb @ The Music Gallery: Photo by Michael Ligon It's been quite a slow start to the year concert-wise for me but, it was the Bry Webb show[the earlier of the two shows] at The Music Gallery in Toronto just over a week ago that finally broke that dry spell. Subconsciously I think I'd been pondering going to this show for a while as I'd recently been listening to Bry's old band The Constantines and having heard good things about his solo album entitled Provider [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive , New Releases Caitlin Durlak Usually when a beloved band goes on 'hiatus' it belies conflict between members. But when the Constantines split in 2010 it surprised many -- they had just celebrated 10 years together with a successful tour and were gaining recognition and respect outside their native Canada, not to mention there wasn't a whiff of hostility. So why did the Ontario blue collar rockers [...]

If you don't know the name Bry Webb by now, you a) probably didn't know the Constantines well enough to learn the lead-singer's name, b) didn't arrive early to Feist 's recent tour dates to see her opener or c) missed all the praise for his debut solo album Provider (out on Idée Fixe Records ). Here's your opportunity to get acquainted. Bry recently filmed a Southern Souls session at his home in Guelph, Ontario, featuring an unreleased cover of Burl Ives' "Sad Man's Songs" and "Viva" from [...]

The short frigid days of winter lend themselves to many things. Dinners with only grilled cheese and tomato soup, roaring fireplaces and delicate sounds. The Constantines' (RIP?) lead vocalist, Bry Webb , has been busy as of late. The troubadour lends his vocal talents on Feist's latest album on two tracks. On her latest tour, the Canadian superstar has asked for Webb to also fill on opening duties. Webb's solo effort,"Provider," is a gentle heart piercing affair that's begging for a strong bottle of whiskey and one glass for an evening's worth [...]
Here is the official video for "Shotgun" from Six Reasons off of his upcoming tape, 802s Baby .

5 Songs is a weekly series where we point out the strange, the grand, and the unique connections between our favorite songs. Let’s get weird. Words by Chris “The Other Guy” is the energetic Steve Lambke, who provides vocals on at least one track on all of Constantines ’ records. Unlike main vocalist Bryan Webb-whose voice is raspy and gruff-Lambke’s voice is thin and papery, and decidedly youthful in comparison. Lambke’s songs are often [...]
Feist and The Constantines cover Kenny Rogers's and Dolly Parton's "Islands in the Stream"

Exclaim I am old enough to remember when "Islands In The Stream" was a hit for Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton back in 1983 (though probably more for Rogers as was taken from his Eyes That See in the Dark album), and the variety show performance linked below is really all you needed to know about it. So clean-cut, family-friendly and catchy as hell. The version recorded by Feist and The Constantines for a limited-run 73 in 2008 certainly turns down the glitz and turns [...]
Bry Webb - Former frontman of the late and critically adored Canadian indie band The Constantines headed into the studio with a pair of lap and pedal steel players and a standup bassist to recorded this eerie, quietly intense and compelling debut album...Webb was recently handpicked by fellow northerner Feist to open for her on her Canadian tour dates // Release : Provider (November 16) // Sounds like : recorded "off the floor" in the studio surrounded by his band, Provider 's nine tracks offer both whispered intimacy and cool, hazy distance [...]

Before Matt Berninger's baritone blasted through Indie Nation like that bulging blue planet in Melancholia , there was Bry Webb. Over the course of four Constantines albums, the singer demonstrated both Springsteen appreciation and pipes as ripped and worn as your grandfather's work boots. His solo debut, The Provider , arrives with little fanfare today, but the songs don't beg for attention: on "Rivers of Gold," Webb's unstoppable howl is reduced to a soft croon. It's disarming to hear him sing so delicately, especially when he utters, "I was playing in a band / we [...]
Bry Webb has been busy. In the year or so since the Constantines announced their hiatus, their former lead singer has moved towns, changed jobs, had a son, toured with Dan Mangan and Feist, and oh yeah - recorded and released his debut solo album, Provider. All this change will change a man, and the diary-like Provider [...]
It was a cruel, cruel summer waiting for news of Constantines frontman Bry Webb's upcoming solo release, feeding only on whispers, ignoring rumors it had been shelved, fueling on hope. Now at last and in swift succession we've been given an album release date, tour details, and a lead single. "Rivers of Gold" sees Webb [...]
