MUSIC REVIEW: Christine Leakey's tunes are part orchestrated noir, part dark forest and yet very much a real dream. These first free songs from her coming record Tapping Trees in a Trinket Box of Treasure are a smooth decoupage straight from the heart that have been a long time in the making since her earlier days in bands called Cadillac Bill & the Creeping Bent, The Double Feature Creatures and Tijuana Knievel. There has been a time lapse since her having to set music down and done some traveling. Perhaps she was [...]
No, we are not objective. Never been in the six year this blog exists. You all know we have are sweethearts. we speak about them with their first name: Camille, Charlotte, Coeur de Pirate, Coralie, Vanessa. And Claire. And because Claire has a new album, it is a happy day at Fillessourires. It started already in 2008 with us and Claire and it continued in 2009 when her first, self-titled album came out. And now there is a new album "Vagabonde". Earlier this year we could see Claire is older now than she was in [...]

Couleurs sur Paris, the new Nouvelle Vague album is out now in France and Belgium (should be out in Europe and overseas next week, god willin'), and it's a beauty! I haven't been that enthusiastic in the past about NV, because the concept stopped working after the second album. For me. But this time, Marc and the girls (and a few guys) really really outdid themselves. French new wave hits from the 80s worked over by the creme de la creme of les filles fragiles of today, why didn't I think of that?! I'm sooo happy that Coeur [...]

I'm not exactly an admirer of those after-hours sound smoothies that are sold as ‚vocal jazz' nowadays. Super-successful Melody Gardot , certainly not French, but a native of the Garden State New Jersey, doubtlessly belongs to that fraction as well, doing more smug'n'snug cuddle harmonies for them latte macchiato sippers who also can't get enough of that dinner muzak zombification a.k.a. Till Brönner. But revisiting Gardot's 2009 album My One and Only Thrill – now out as a new edition with bonus remixes –, I must admit that Melody's self-written Les Etoiles has class, groove, and tendresse, and feels [...]
This Friday just got a shot in the arm, FS-friends. Feast your ears on this, a duet between songwriting genius Jacques Duvall and the guardian angel of this blog, Coralie Clément. Listen (and/or download) HERE .

Five years ago, I started blogging about sweet sighing French chanteuses. What I've learned so far is that you can go to jail for that. That Google can delete your blog because you post mp3s of artists very few people have heard of. That almost all of those chanteuses are drop dead gorgeous , and if you meet them, they want you to kiss them. On the cheek. Several times. I've learned that fans of sweet sighing chanteuses live all over the world. Those fans send nice, appreciative emails. They help you build your blog. [...]

A little birdie pointed me to this Mediafire-file , containing a bootlegrecording of a concert of Coralie Clément in Buenos Aires. Grab it quickly before it disappears. You can hear our charming heroine (she watches over this blog) do mostly songs from her last album Toy Store, and some from earlier recordings (alas very few from her brilliant debut). Posted here is her coverversion of Benjamin Biolay's Jardin d'Hiver. The picture is borrowed from Franca , who photographed Coralie in Sao Paulo.

A ansiedade é muita, a expectativa é enorme, a saudade ainda maior.

The ten best French albums (not necissarily from France, but songs sung in French) (mostly) were round up by ten ( twelve , actually) people. You might have checked out the websites of the artists. Here are songs from the ten (twelve, actually) Number One choices. Here's to another ten years of great French music! Lina - Redevenir Modeste (2003) ( Sky's top ten) Coralie Clément - Salle des pas perdus (2002) ( Guuzbourg's top ten) Arno - Lola, etc. (2002) ( Maks' [...]

Image : Robert Boynes . The way things work is by admitting or opening away. This is the simplest form of current: Blue moving through blue; blue through purple; the objects of desire opening upon themselves without us; the objects of faith. The way things work is that we finally believe they are there, common and able to illustrate themselves. The way things work is that eventually something catches. - Jorie Graham, the way things work . Coralie Clément - Samba de Mon Coeur Qui Bat [...]

The Last Shadow Puppets - The age of the understatement Derrière cet étrange nom se cachent Alex Turner des Arctic Monkeys [...]

I frequently get swept up in the music of a foreign country. This year, it's often been Japan, given my discovery of Pizzicato Five, but lately my fixation has moved west, back to France thanks to artists like Yelle and Carla Bruni. The latter started her career as a French and Italian model, crossing over into the music world before the turn of the century. Her debut Quelqu'un m'a dit was a huge Francophone hit, though its guitar-and-poetry-based follow-up No Promises didn't do as well. Her new album [...]

I just felt like posting this song. Because it is just taking far too long before the next album by beautiful Coralie is coming out. Her MySpace-blog says it will be released next year, but I'm guessing this is a typo and that she means the fall of this year. I hope I'm guessing right. Coralie Clement - Ta Révérerance

There's something about the female figure that has this special je ne sais quoi.... The female voice, now that's the true esence of sensuality.... don't you just love women? So here are a couple of songs of women I find irresistably sensual. + Stina Nordestam - I Dream of Jeanie + Dani Siciliano - They Can Wait + Mono - Silicone (Les Rythmes Digitales Remix) + Roisin Murphy - [...]
