Quick...immediate names that spring to mind when the mention of Canadian musical acts come up in conversation? If you are imagining Celine Dion, Nickelback, Bryan Adams, KD Lang, Barenaked Ladies, Hedley, Wide Mouth Mason, Three Days Grace, Theory of a Deadman, Swollen Members, Sum 41, Simple Plan, Avril Lavigne or Alanis Morissette...shame on you. Although these bands and (questionable) musicians helped to shape the landscape of the Canadian Music Scene, they do little convey how talented our country truly is. I meant to put this post together after Arcade Fire pulled off their Grammy victory for [...]
I'm spoiled and I know it. Toronto is the New York City of Canada, and every touring band/artist comes through Toronto at least once every few years, sometimes every year (Drive-By Truckers), and sometimes several times a year (Tim Barry). Except for Two Cow Garage, but that's another story. I'm even more spoiled by the fact that I live within stumbling distance and/or a cheap cab ride from all of the major and minor music venues in the city. Despite living in a killer music city and dwelling in close proximity to the music venues, [...]
Homercat will be on holidaze for a while. Not sure when we'll be back. Sometime in the next two weeks I will be putting up my top ten list of the best albums of 2009. Thanks to all who have stopped by over the year and here at Good Rockin' we're looking forward to a good 2010. I'll leave you with a song from Corb Lund's latest album called Losin' Lately Gambler which also happens to be a candidate for my top ten list. Alberta Says Hello [...]
No rest for the wicked, or weary, or something. Why are all of the bands that I want to see playing the same week? Corb Lund has a new record out. I haven't heard it yet, but if its anything like his earlier releases its going to be good. He played last night and is playing again tonight at the Horseshoe. Yeee-Haw! Five Dollar Bill.mp3 Buy : Five Dollar Bill (2003) http://myaimzistrue.blogspot.c om/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss

This weekend is Juno weekend and I don't mean last year's much-beloved indie film, even though that does has more than its fair share of Canadian content-- director Jason Reitman, Ellen Page, Michael Cera... even Jason Bateman has a Canuck connection: he's Paul Anka's son-in-law! Anyway, the Junos are the annual music awards given out by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Think Canadian Grammies. Ironically, Juno (the film), despite being filmed in Vancouver with its Canadian stars and director, was ineligible for this year's Genies (think Canadian Oscars) because it wasn't made [...]

Today in Music History: In 1974, Barry White went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Can't Get Enough Of Your Love Baby', the singers first and only US solo chart topper.(on a side note, 9 months later there is a sudden increase in births. Thanks Barry.) When homercat works the graveyard shift at the pub, he is all alone ceptin' for the resident ghost(Rosie) and the radio which tends to be turned up real loud, iffin' ya know what I mean. I usually [...]

I've always been skeptical of the idea of cloning, kind of worried about what would happen if one of those weird and scary sci-fi movies came true and people could create human clones at will. But after looking through the Bluesfest schedule, I would be all to willing to get my hands on something, anything, that would let me be in two places at once. The guide is split in 2, 5 days in each. Not sure how regualr blog-posting will go throughout.. a local Bluesfest performer profile here, a [...]
