I can remember falling for him like it was yesterday. After an early childhood spent swooning over the likes of Olivia Newton-John and Jaclyn Smith, he was my first celebrity guy crush. I guess you could say I was something a gay late-ish bloomer. It was 1984, and I had just turned 15. The new issue of Billboard magazine arrived in the mail (my mother had bought me a year subscription for Christmas of 1983, and it still ranks as the best gift I've ever received), and there he was in a front-page [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive , New Releases Warner Music Corey Hart 's classic 'Sunglasses at Night,' exemplifies pop music from the 1980's, and thanks to the ongoing '80's revival, more than 25 years since its release, the track is more relevant today than ten years ago. Singer-songwriter Corey Hart tells Spinner that he's amazed by the song's staying power. "It was my first single, and I knew when I wrote the song [...]

I have wanted to talk with NY-based producer Chew Fu for a long time becasue he brings something really unique to the dance landscape. A typical DJ will read his crowd and then decide that maybe they need a Falke remix or Diplo remix. The set choices are limited only by the crowd's tastes and what is in the DJ's arsenal. Things are a little different at Chew Fu show. Chew Fu doesn't play other people's remixes/productions at all-he makes all [...]

by teepoo Where do I get these crazy topic for sunglasses? Well, if it isn't some approaching holiday, I usually base it on the first word the person I happen to be talking to at them time says and well this week we have sunglasses. If you have a special request for a future playlist topic go ahead, name anything. I never thought about it before today, but there are actually TONS of songs that involve sunglasses.. 1. [...]

I may not have know the man personally, or even been a fan of a single one of his movies or failed reality tv shows, but still the news of Corey Haim's death this morning from an apparent drug overdose was pretty jarring just the same. Honestly, though, it had less to do with the fact that a life was loss so tragically early and more to do with the fact that the world is short one less Corey. I can't really explain it, but we Coreys (and Corys) are a closely knit group, probably more so than [...]

Filed under: Exclusive , Between the Notes , Canada To mark the launch of Spinner Canada, we're doing an in-depth series on the Canadian indie music scene that's taken the world by storm in recent years. In Part I , we explored the foundation laid for Canada's music scene in the 1980s and '90s. This week, we examine this decade's explosion, beginning with Toronto and continuing in Montreal, with Calgary's Feist making an appearance in a [...]

I heard the news that Lynyrd Skynyrd's bassist, Ean Evans, passed away this last Wednesday. He was 48. This has been a tough year for Skynyrd, first losing keyboardist Billy Powell and now Evans. Evans was always so cool to me. He always remembered who I was, and even remembered my name. It meant so much to me whenever he'd give me a hug hello. A class act, and Rock n' Roll will sincerely miss him. Here's This Week's Top 5 Most Played Songs From Swap's iTunes. [...]
Searching for another lost artist can be difficult and taxing on my poor brain. I think I found one you should all enjoy this week though. In the early '80s Corey Hart was one of the biggest acts to come out of Canada. "Sunglasses At Night", "Never Surrender", and oh so many more faux tough guy electro pop songs are attributable to this brooding singer. But we haven't seen Corey in a long long
Idle Warship is Talib Kweli , Res and Graph Nobel . No joke: that joint with the Corey Hart sample in the video is a HIT! Check it out yourself: Idle Warship - "Steady" [zshare stream/download mp3 link] Agree? Show at BB King's in NYC next Monday (flyer to be posted soon).

Brodinski 's remixes have been tearing through DJ sets all over the world, contributing to those decadent nights everyone wants once in a while. Having remixed the likes of Teenagers , Klaxons , D.I.M., and now DJ Mehdi of Ed Banger Records , he is really going places. He is already huge in my book, but its time for him to explode. MP3 s after the jump The remix he and [...]

So I can so I can, have a good reason to get a pair of Tag Hauer (above) that's specially designed to amplify visions in low light conditions. At the same time I'd be listening to this kickass remix of the latest Tiga and Zyntherius song. Black Devil made it sound like some psychedelic band dipping their hands in electro/new wave, I am massively impressed. Big shoutout to my lovely friend Sofie from SSSSOUND! for hooking me up with this one. Most of the other remixes like the one from [...]

This post is for our very dear friend, Robbie, who at this very moment, is battling with respiratory complications due to chemo. Since we cannot be at your side this week to encourage you along, we would like to inspire you the only other way we know how – through music! While you may not be able to speak to us at this moment, we know you hear what's going on around – so listen up, Robbie – get better – we have more beers to drink before this year is done and we cannot do it without [...]
