MONDAY JANUARY 21 / THE AMAZING / HORSESHOE TAVERN / 368 QUEEN W / $11.50 / 19+ While The Amazing may be lacking in the name department, this Swedish quartet has a unique sound that can best be described as a blend folk rock and psychedelic pop. Filed under: News , New Music Corin Raymond It's not exactly Monopoly money but Canadians have often used Canadian Tire money -- the long-established hardware store chain's reward cashback bucks -- for beer , feeding puppies , or any number of other reasons. Now a Toronto singer-songwriter has used the five-cent and ten-cent coupon bills to fund recording a live studio album. According to the Toronto Star , [...]

Matt Urmy - Sweet Lonesome Nashville songwriter Matt Urmy released his new album Sweet Lonesome last month on Belmont University Records. The album contains ten thoughtful original songs and three spoken word pieces that highlight Urmy's poetic nature. Guest vocals from Ashley Cleveland, Jonell Mosser, and Mary Gauthier add even another layer to Urmy's already textured sound. The title track is a duet with Gauthier. I just had this excellent concert lineup land in my lap. No work for me to do except say yes (and invite you). Jonathan Byrd from North Carolina and Corin Raymond from Toronto are on an improbable tour of the US together. Improbable because Corin Raymond rarely gets out of Canada and because together they are an astounding lineup. They come to Chicago to play our living room at _____________ in Oak Park on Tuesday, Feb 22nd at 7pm. We'll pass the proverbial hat and will ask for a $15 donation [...]

If John Prine's debut holds a special place in your heart, you may fall head over heels in love with Corin Raymond's "There Will Always Be A Small Time". There's the self-deprecating sense of humor, wordplay that seems so simple until you try it and aw-shucks phrasing that tugs at the heart and burrows into the soul. The Toronto-based songwriter writes simple, direct songs that make a pure, straight connection from artist to listener. "There Will Always Be A Small Time" celebrates shared moments in small rooms, a million stars of varying brightness shining "when the nine-to-fivers go [...]

I've been trying to convince and conjole people in the industry that Corin Raymond's song "There Will Always Be A Small Time" is the best song about the travails of country music since "Crazy Heart" by Ryan Bingham. It's the title track from his summer 2009 release. Since I love that song so much I revisited this gorgeous record and want to share one more song from it with you. "Blue Mermaid Dress" again deals a little with the power of song and the creative process. It's a topic [...]

Corin Raymond is a Toronto based singer songwriter whose new record is atop the European Americana charts. I tracked down Corin on the road in an attempt to get clearance to write about his new record There Will Always Be A Small Time . He sent three songs and each was more personal and charming than the last. I can only post one song but you should click here to get the new record. The title track is a romantic waltz more about music and community than getting the girl. The song [...]
