When we first heard of Church Of Fuck , we had a bit of chuckle. Then we looked at what kind of records they were releasing - dirty, ugly, crusty grind and metal, including several who we've raved about in the past - we stopped chuckling and just started grinning. A big, fat, these-bands-are-heavy-and-evil -and-we-love-it kind of grin. And once we'd gotten over that, we realised that Church Of Fuck was the perfect label for us to bring back out long, long, long- neglected Label Profile column. We dropped [...]

Amalgamated Aesthetic Industries (AAI). Not sure what that means? It certainly piques your interest though. Not that Echotape need much other than their music to catch your attention. That they're also shrouded in a kind of prophetic mysteriousness is a bonus. A visit to www.echotape.co.uk will probably prove more enlightening than anything I can say on the matter. Once there, you'll be subjected to a variety of striking visuals and dramatic messages. "We are made perfect. We are corrupted from birth. We can undo the damage. If only we realise." Not sure where I stand on that. Think [...]

Destroyer has recently covered the track “Leave Me Alone” for the Mojo New Order covers album of Power, Corruption & Lies . Destroyer's take on this song plays it a little safe, adding some distortion and slightly altered vocal delivery. It’s a pretty faithful adaptation; however, I am looking forward to hearing some different interpretations of these songs from the other bands on this compilation.
It's January 2nd, and I've already been treated to a few new tracks (more later.) But this one is a belated Christmas gift! My personal album favorite from last year is Destroyer's Kaputt. Its production value sounded like a Prefab Sprout or Tears For Fears record; something from the mid-802s. And not only does Dan [...]
Fear is at the root of man's destruction of himself. Without Fear there is no blame. Without blame there is no conflict. Without conflict there is no destruction. But there IS Fear: deep within the core of every human being it lurks like a monster, dark and intangible. Its outward effects are unmistakable. Its source [...]

YOU THE PEOPLE SHOULD BE AWARE OF BANK OF AMERICA!!! Bank of America received $45 billion in bailout money, however that hasn’t stopped the company from finding new ways to milk the most money out of their customers. On Friday, Bank of America announced a new debit card fee that will charge customers $5 per month simply for using their debit cards. The debit card fee will begin in the first few months of 2012. At first, Bank of America will start charging the debit card fee [...]
A headline like "Tori Amos Issues Challenge to Metal Bands" is hard to ignore. So I went over to Spinner.com to read this interview with Ms Amos, and this is what she had to say: "Well, look, sometimes you don't know how music affects people. I embrace that because I don't think that just because I [...]
The mysterious sludge outfit from Osaka, Japan has returned from the shadows once more to offer a follow-up to 2005’s El Mundo Frio. Garten der Unbewusstheit, or “Garden of Unawareness”, could not be a more apt title for the band’s fifth album. The contextual meaning of the German “unbewusstheit” is acting without deliberateness, self-awareness, or self-consciousness. This record appears as the

Minimal house royalty Cobblestone Jazz have kicked off a new series of 12”s, their first material since stellar 2010 album Modern Deep Left Quartet . Memories (From Where You Are) sees the collective return to old stomping ground Wagon Repair --home of other minimal stalwarts like Deadbeat and label founder Matthew Jonson . The tracks on offer prove that Cobblestone still have plenty of tricks up their sleeve. Pt. 1 has plenty of Cobblestone's signature lounge jazz style about it, with smooth pads and an [...]

In terms of median per capita GDP growth, I like to think of the Philippines as Southeast Asia's underachieving half-sister. It has many of the socioeconomic factors in place to stage a middle class renaissance, but elements that range from endemic poverty, crippling economic fallout from the (US-backed) Marcos regime, and entrenched corruption have contributed to one of the widest gaps between the rich and the poor in the world. According to the CIA World Factbook , 32.9% of the population lives below the poverty line. Filipino economist Solita Collas-Monsod noted that "the number of people living in [...]

Half a century ago, president Dwight Eisenhower issued a warning to the American nation about growing military industrial complexes being a threat to democracy, and now it seems as though Eisenhower's warning has become reality. US is the modern world's biggest military spender. Dr. Paul Craig Roberts, a former Reagan administration official and a columnist, shares his opinion on RT.

On Monday, Rageh Omaar wrote a piece for the Guardian saying, in effect, that grown-up people know that in war-torn areas humanitarian efforts sometimes get misdirected. He expressed mild surprise that all the charities involved in the 80s Ethiopian famine had reacted the World Service report by yelling "never", rather than asking to inspect the claims more closely; and said that perhaps we shouldn't treat Band Aid as if it was somehow above criticism. All very reasonable and balanced. Isn't that right, Bob Geldof ? Rageh Omaar's piece "Even Band Aid is not [...]
