As 2011 comes to an end, we are taking a look back at some of our favorite posts of the year by our guest editors. KORT is Lambchop frontman Kurt Wagner and solo singer/songwriter Cortney Tidwell, and with covers album Invariable Heartache (City Slang), the duo has recorded a sort of love letter to its [...]

I wasn't really anticipating spending an obnoxious amount of time restoring my iPod this evening, but Cortney Tidwell kept me company and I was reminded of how much I really love her. So much so that I am a bit selfish and would like her to release a new album every year. Don't you wish that would happen? This Nashville born musician is a natural, her music is dark and beautiful. I have been listening to Cortney Tidwell for years and her music is just as good as it was the first time I [...]
The indescribably wonderful Nashville singer/songwriter Cortney Tidwell paired up with Kurt Wagner of Lambchop for the side-project KORT and the recent Invariable Heartache collaboration, an album of waltzing alt-country duets that sounded like an updated twist on twang-heavy, tear-in-beer nostalgia. No slight to Mr. Wagner gruffly dulcet tones, but it is Cortney's sweet voice of melancholy that rings our bell here, particularly on the roadhouse slow dance "A Special Day". Like nearly [...]
KORT is Lambchop frontman Kurt Wagner and solo singer/songwriter Cortney Tidwell, and with covers album Invariable Heartache (City Slang), the duo has recorded a sort of love letter to its hometown of Nashville and the city's musical past. Eleven of the LP's dozen tracks were originally recorded in the '60s and '70s for the Music City-based [...]

Lykke Li's impossibly uplifting pop number has been given a magnificent remix. It's a brash, uninhibited rework, unafraid to throw in big cartoonish piano keys, ecstatic hand claps and a chunky-as-anything analogue synth. It's shamelessly hands-in-the-air fodder, and all the better for it: Lykke Li - I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix) [pelski highly recommends] Simon Baker - one of my favorite artists - is finally releasing his long awaited debut album, 'Traces'. The Leeds techno/house stalwart has been around long enough... doing bits and bobs here and there, [...]

there arent many seemingly cooler dudes in the rock and roll than lambchop's kurt wagner. everything he does just oozes with a vibe that only a few can attain. that vibe being effortlessness - that is if that can be considered a vibe. anyway, he's teamed up with fellow nashvillian cortney tidwell for a collection of classic country-pop covers under the moniker of kort - kurt/cortney, get it? anyway, the record is called invariable heartache and is due out on city slang on 2.8.11. im listening to it right now, and as you could probably have [...]

OK, so here goes, the only porpoise-based end of year lists that matter: Seven Records of 2010 You Should Probably Buy (although I didn’t bother): Age of Adz – Sufjan Stevens The Courage of Others – Midlake Swim – Caribou [...]

There’s no happy outcome to be had with this album. It’s called Invariable Heartache , tracks are named ‘Incredibly Lonely’ and ‘Who’s Gonna Love Me Now?’ and it is sung in part by Kurt Wagner, the trucker hat wearing, low key everyman from Lambchop . He has teamed up with Cortney Tidwell , a relatively unknown singer in these here parts but a Nashville queen on the country scene due to her lineage. Her grandfather ran Nashville’s Chart Records, her mother was country singer Connie Eaton and her father was the producer Cliff Williamson. [...]
