For the chance to win a pair of tickets just send an e-mail to competitions@phuturelabs.com with "CosminTRG" as the subject and answer the following question, we'll pick a name out of the hat at lunchtime on Friday 23rd March. "On which label was Cosmin TRG's debut album, Simulat, released?" The Berlin-based producer was originally known simply [...]

Barely 2 years after the release of 'Black Sands', London-based label Ninja Tune will be releasing a remix album of Bonobo 's astonishing 'Black Sands' LP. Though a lot has changed in the musical landscape since 'Black Sands' was released, in a way things have come full circle as more and more producers are discovering the ambient soundscapes of downtempo, trip hop and deep house. On top of some delightful remixes from Machinedrum, FaltyDL, Cosmin TRG and Mark Pritchard, the collection will also feature two original Bonobo productions, 'Ghost Ship' and [...]

I recently discovered Cosmin TRG , a dude from Romania who splices genres so finely you'd think his brand of electronica was the done thing. The Berlin-based producer's debut album Simulat , released last year, has been described as originating from Berlin and Detroit techno as well as dubstep. These descriptions are accurate - it has a true techno feel, yet the fading vocal samples and ornate bass is a refreshing examination of the genre. [...]
After releasing his sumptuous 4th album, Black Sands in 2010, it's been announced that there will be a remix album to follow next month. Featuring remixes from the likes of Falty DL, Cosmin TRG and Floating Points, it's certainly something to look forward to, but if you really can't wait till then you can listen [...]
The year is coming to a close, and in less than a week 2011 will be no more than a memory. As we set our resolutions and prepare for the next chapter in our lives, many of us will be reflecting on the past year and the events that defined it. For Earmilk , every year is defined by the music it brings to the table. We live and breath music over here, celebrating it to the highest extent as well as scrutinizing it to the finest detail. The beautiful thing about music is that unlike memories, music will never [...]

One of my infatuations this year was techno, in all it's forms. Whether it's lo-fi broken kicks, or the ultra pristine snares you find on Kompakt, or the hectic glitched percussion from 90s Warp artists. I'm not the only one who saw this genre become popular, and I'm expecting a lot of great examples next year too. Anyway, one of the techno albums that got released this year is Simulat, from Cosmin TRG . He has a great reputation of doing whatever he wants and shifting genres from release to release, with his debut not quite being techno, but close enough. Enjoy my [...]

A recent achievement? Oh drawing challenge, your subtle mockery cuts sly and deep. final fantasy III is genuinely shit hard on the Nintendo DS, okay? No really, it is. MP3: Cosmin TRG- Amor Y Otros This sequence of drawings is missing something, namely a banging techno donk. Amor Y Otros is the first track on Cosmin TRG's excellent [...]

Illustration by Dreampaint [ 50 Weapons ] Releasing on labels such as Hemlock, BPitch, Hessle, and Rush Hour, Cosmin TRG has been quickly building a catalog of decidedly left-field house and techno. At least it seems like it might be house and techno on the outside. A closer look at tracks from his [...]
Techno through a bass music filter. It's actually kind of sad that Cosmin TRG's exploration of genres has been a talking point—can't an artist, you know, do more than one thing?—but such is life. The Romanian producer was a dubstep/garage dude when he started out back in 2007, hopped over to house for a bit and is now residing in techno country. One by-product of this restlessness is the name Cosmin TRG (or TRG as he was initially known) has adorned many a leading label these past four years—Hessle Audio, [NakedLunch], Tempa, Immerse Records, Hotflush, Hemlock and [...]
It's clear from the cover that Simulat , Romanian DJ Cosmin TRG's full-length debut, will be an album of brainy and glacially cold music. There's nothing wrong with that, but an album needs at least an undercurrent of soul to connect with its listener. David Bowie's Low , Eno's Another Green World , and Boards of Canada's Music Has the Right to Children are all albums that could be inhospitably cold but work because of their foundation in feeling; in each case, the album's soul is hard to pinpoint, but as Justice Potter Stewart said [...]

[ Monkeytown Records ] Coming out of Shlohmo's Wedidit Collective will certainly have afforded eLan (born Elan Stouffer) a familiarity with not only emotive electronics, but an irreverent sense of melody and song composition. From the stuttering opening of "Alligator Snaps," one can easily understand why Modeselektor signed eLan to their Monkeytown label. Both artists have an affinity for happily coasting melodies juxtaposed with off-the-wall drum programming. With Alligator Snaps , [...]

In the lead up to the release of his hotly anticipated debut full length entitled "Simulat," which drops via 50 Weapons on August 26, we took some time out to chat with Cosmin Nicolae - Cosmin TRG - about his new record, Berlin, and Ikea flat packs. Here's how it played out. Cosmin TRG - Amor Y Otros (Promo Snippet) Tell us a little about your forthcoming album... The album took about 2 months from start to finish. I just went to the studio every [...]

For those of us unlucky enough not to be at the Sónar Festival in Barcelona this year (and that includes us at the Labs) take some solace in the fact that our friends at Red Bull Music Academy are streaming all the acts from their stage over the weekend. This is thanks to their hook up with our number 1 music streaming club The Boiler Room . Over the next three days expect to the likes of Teebs , David Rodigan , Illum Sphere and Cosmin TRG [...]

zero" // podcast #045 - DJ Mix by Zanshin This week's podcast comes from Gregor Ladenhauf, better known as Zanshin , and as one half of Viennese house duo Ogris Debris . Those who only know Ladenhauf from cheeky club hits like ' Raid The Itch ' and ' Salty Womb ' or his club-rocking stage appearances with partner Daniel Kohlmeigner, might expect a similar style of minimal house music from his solo productions. His Zanshin project is however firmly dedicated [...]
