After a fun night with Prins Thomas, Animals Dancing is back again, throwing another party tomorrow night at the Mercat with South Korean (now Berlin-based) Hunee , house producer and Systematic Musicology graduate (studying the psychology and sociology of music). Recently appearing on the brilliant Future Times 'Vibe 22 compilation (along with Alexis Le-Tan, Steve Summers, Steve Moore, & more), Hunee has also appeared on various imprints such as John Daly's Feel Music [as Hunch] (see last track posted here), Rush Hour, Internasjonal, Permanent Vacation + more. Hunee also runs a [...]

We found this awesome edit that Cottam put on Soundcloud yonks ago but never thought it would ever see the light of day as an actual release!?! Well guess what?... its coming as a 123 picturedisc soon along with a Watson Itch dub!... Amazing. CLIFF01 by Cottam
The Aptly titled 'Deep Deep Down' sculpts the feeling of acid techno into warm slo-mo house. Ukrainian producer Vakula takes the track off on another tangent entirely; stripping away its propulsive chugging heartbeat and replacing it with an off-kilter, spaced-out pulse reminiscent of Theo Parrish when he's in that kind groove. On the flip, 'Twang' is a return to Cottam's brand of languid, soulful house, steeped with groove destined to incite the dancefloor shuffle.

[Aus Music] Minor-key Rhodes stabs and k-holes aside, I'm really not sure what "deep" means in dance music. Like the divide between house and techno itself, we know it when we hear it, and what it means to me isn't necessarily what it means to you. One would be hard pressed, though, to listen to the music of Paul Cottam - known simply as Cottam to those lucky enough to have snagged one of his elusive, [...]

[ Fina Records ] It's still tough to accurately describe the Morning Factory sound even after they've wracked up five records in their discography. Sure, the Dutch production duo could be loosely described as making house music; but that encompasses their more aggressive, techno-flecked cuts on Yore, the jazzy hustle of their Pets Recordings EP, the blissful disco strut of "Fantasy Check" on Royal Oak, and the sheer range contained on their 20:20 Vision EP. What's clearer, though, is that [...]
Cottam - Deep Deep Down EP [Aus]Cottam has described his most recent genre-foray as "sub-aquatic acid house", a direction evident in his two most recent remixes for Morning Factory [20:20Vision] and Pattern Select [Delusions of Grandeur], as well as his 10-minute epic 'Sunrise Sunset'. Indeed, his latest offering definitely lacks the disco chug of some of his previous efforts, notably his fourth

Sweet mix of groovy tracks from Cottam... from the comment he put in under the soundcloud track that he forgot to delete he needed to keep it smooth will his little baby was asleep. Nuff dad talk, fill her up! Cottam-While The Baby Naps The Groove Creeps Out by Cottam

He is without doubt one of our favourite producers of the last few years so when we hear of a new Cottam EP the excitement levels can reach fever pitch. From the humble beginnings of his slo mo house EP's, the Cottam sound has moved on to bring in more elements of his early influences in acid house and techno. His new work on AUS music is a 3 track monster which while continuing on the acid journey on the title track, still retains the typical Cottam groove which make his productions so special. [...]

A really really exquisite mix from Cottam from back in time that you may have already heard before... If you haven't then you're in luck cause its lovely! The big man has also said that he'll putting together some new mixes soon too so look out for those! Cottam-April Mix by Cottam

Have you been wondering what Cottam has been up to recently? Well you can breath a sigh of release cause by the sounds of it he's been busy making some new tunes. More importantly he's been slicing and dicing Sir Cliff Richard for the below little teaser of what he's been making. Very very nice groove on this one! Tracklisting: 01. Our man Cottam is back with a release on Use Of Weapons. As his his way, the original "Sunrise Sunset" is a slow builder full of tribal warmth that eventually breaking into a progressive acid break. Exactly what you wanted to hear. There is also a Deep Space Orchestra mix which make full use of the acid break layered up with some softer synths. This may well only be a vinyl release and you can get it now at Juno . Cottam-Sunrise Sunset [...]

Are there still any more bloggers out there? As I'm digging my way out of the pile of work that has been bogging me down, it seems that the RSS pipes from all my favorite outlets have dried out. Where did you all go? If I am overlooking something, feel free to point me in the right direction. If there is a blogger shortage, it cannot be because we are lacking releases to talk about. There is more exciting stuff out there than I have experienced in a long time. While I hate doing mass mp3 posts, I [...]

I was listening to an old Cottam - Causes of Colour Mix and I stumbled across an amazing track from Spanish producer Pional. 'In Another Room' is a beautiful slow mo thumper with rising moody humming loops and euphoric parts. Its one of those tracks that wreaks of epic, gives you goosebumps and makes you want to smile at everybody. Pional - In another room (original version) by Pional [...]

So glad I found this edit... I first heard the amazing guitar loops from Plantlife - Love 4 The World on Diplo's Fabric mix where he bootlegged it with Nina Sky - Turnin' Me On. That was an absolutely amazing track on that mix. Now a great laidback edit of the original has bubbled up from Cottam thats out now! Cottam4-Side B by Cottam [...]

Jonathan Cottam is an elusive producer from England who specializes in deep, groovy, techno, the kind of music that gets better with every eight minute listen. More than anything else, his tracks are studies in the art of the build- on tunes such as 003B, pounding drums, tribal vocals, and funk guitar loops slink in and out of the mix without fanfare, yet somehow come together to create a deeply compelling wall of sound. Unfortunately, Cottam tracks are only available on vinyl, but I'd encourage everyone to sample them on his Myspace and maybe look at picking up an [...]
