"Glorylight And Christie" is the first single off Cotton Jones upcoming LP, Tall Hours In The Glowstream. While always a commendable tunesmith, under the Cotton Jones moniker Michael Nau has truly grown into his craft. Aesthetically, he's found himself. Nau's brand of dreamy Americana, while firmly rooted in the 21st century, is surrounding by ghosts, [...]
Chances are that if you're reading this, you're probably not at Bonnaroo and thus probably are a bit jealous/bored/sad/etc. So now would probably be a good time to drop this week's edition of our Friday Mixtape. Hey, it might not be the same as a weekend in Manchester, but here's hoping this keeps you entertained for at least a couple hours. NEW Singles: "Get [...]

Cotton Jones readies their new album, Tall Hours In The Glowstream (Aug 24th, Suicide Squeeze ), which, if the debut track "Glorylight and Christie" is any indication, should be fantastic. It's a song soaked in summer, and the album art reinforces that. Take a listen. I was recently challenged to create a list of 10 bands you can't ignore this summer. However, since you can always just ignore them - but you better not ignore them! - and because this will serve as the first of many lists celebrating Buzzgrinder's upcoming ninth birthday, we've brought you nine bands you shouldn't ignore in the coming months. And instead of raving about normal Buzzgrinder touchstones (which I could do, since J. Roddy Walston and the Business , These United States , Rodeo Ruby Love and a bunch of others have [...]
Man, here's another one that I didn't even know was on the horizon. Cotton Jones have snuck up on me with this new track "Glorylight and Christie," which they premiered over at Paste the other day. Check it out, enjoy, etc. MP3: Cotton Jones - Glorylight and Christie It starts out as a Beach House-esque beautiful pop [...]

Simone Felice, of the Felice Brothers, has teamed up with Robert Bird Burke, Simi Stone, and Reverend Loveday to create a folk album that is also an homage to '70s soul. I'm taking the Ben approach to my post this week and doing a recap of some underrated hits from "the past": up first, my most recent times, '09. Since I have to show some discretion, a bunch of good tunes got cut here – I really can't justify putting anything from Explorers or Second Family Band (unless you wanna listen in for another 92 minutes), and though I love Forget the Night Ahead , putting the Twilight Sad on any mix is kinda like pooping in the special water at communion. This may not work as the most representative [...]
by muggsy It's 5 am and I am sitting in the sky. Except for a sea of lights below me, everything is black. I'm the only one awake and just drank my weight in wine. I like where this year is going. Artist: Cotton Jones [...]

I just thought I'd tell you. All the demons have been slain . Cotton Jones' Paranoid Cocoon was softly released by Suicide Squeeze records to not a whole lot of fanfare early in 2009, and it holds quite a bit of sentimental value to most of the writers here. I reviewed this album in late January and from the jump, I fell into Michael Nau and Whitney McGraw's sultry one-part Johnny Cash/one part Jim Morrison mixture of psych-driven folk. I don't know much about Nau's home [...]

I planned on finishing this before tomorrow, but I'm having not enough time to do it like I did for numers 50 - 31. So, the next texts are gonna be shorter, very short. Just a sentence and a song. Hope you don't mind. 30. Megafaun - Gather, Form And Fly ( Home Tapes ) What? Band rooted in indie country, but opening up to a whole array of genres [...]

This Best of 2009 list, "in no particular order," comes from Mike Post, who started as an intern at our Chessvolt Studios before Luxury Wafers and has helped us here and there from the very beginning with booking, mixing... the whole shebam. Mike just graduated with a music degree from Northeastern University in Boston. Check out the faves (as mp3 or video below) and enjoy rooting around the artists' sessions. When you're ready, jump down to the zip. The Moondoggies – What Took So [...]

[mp3] ARMS: "Whirring" So we forgot a few on those best of '09 lists. Can't get to them all ya' know? So, here are two albums that we slept on in the latter half of '09: ARMS' Kids Aflame and Cotton Jones' Paranoid Cocoon . ARMS is the charming bedroom project of Todd Goldstein, a member of the now disbanded group Harlem Shakes . Bummer. They were ace. Nevertheless, Kids Aflame is packed with understated songwriting gems, brimming with wistful melodies and "don't [...]
