"I want no other", the French translation of Arthur Ashin's stage name, speaks volumes about the overall tone of his music. Operating out of Brooklyn, NY, Ashin blends R&B with ambient soul-pop, exploring themes of human instinct and raw emotion. "Counting", a track from his recent LP Anxiety , is a perfect example. You have to be in a certain frame of mind to absorb Arthur's sounds, though they deserve notable mention nonetheless.

The delicate beats and haunting falsetto of Autre Ne Veut's "Counting" mark the components of a great new artist. Autre Ne Veut is Brooklyn's Arthur Ashin, and while he actually just released his sophomore LP, Anxiety, it wasn't until now that he's truly established a worthy signature sound. Fans of M83 will find much to love about Ashin's distant, dreamy, emotional creations.

In the past couple of years, R&B has found itself developing a strange relationship between its cold, technological, 80s self and its soulful Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye past. That combination has led to albums from the likes of Frank Ocean and The Weeknd receiving critical and commercial success, bringing R&B back from its mid-20002s malaise and creating a path for its future. Earlier today, Chicago artist Star Barksdale dropped his Play Time's Over mixtape, which included 15 new tracks. One of the standouts from Star's project, was his collaboration with the G Count of the L.E.P. Bogus Boys entitled "Come Up." Hey, that's what we're all trying to do, right? It's no secret that Will Gates has a treasure trove of unreleased videos from some of Chicago's finest, and today he's dug up an unreleased freestyle from the L.E.P Bogus Boys own Count. This one is from 2004, and features Count live and direct in front of the now defunct Ickes. The footage might be eight years old, but Count was dope as ever all the way back then. Learn about it.

I'm a big fan of L.E.P. Bogus Boys.  Word is that Count and Moonie are in Atlanta right now, putting the finishing touches on their new project.  While we haven't gotten any new music from L.E.P. in a minute, we do have something new featuring Count, as he hops on the title track for Young TeeTee's new mixtape, Don't Fuck Up Da Re-Up .  The song is solid, dark and moody production in which Tee and Count both spit street narratives. It is a natural progression of music, genre lines blurring. So, I can't say that I'm too surprised that Autre Ne Veut's song, "Counting," mixes soul, electronic, hip-hop and the bold, characterless genre indie rock. What does surprise me is, they totally pull it off, converging into quite a delectable joint. Enjoy below.  

Autre Ne Veut is the stage name of 30-year-old Brooklynite Arthur Ashin. "Counting" is the first single off his sophomore album, Anxiety , named after the debilitating reason Ashin went through intensive psychoanalysis to battle depression. The song manifests the theme of uncertainty and fear with sporadic atonal trumpet blasts and a chorus that grows more defiant in its chaos and unsureness as the song goes progresses, resulting an intensely personal R&B anthem.
