Here it is. The final post of 2007 for ninebullets.net. The rest of this year will be reposts of posts from the year starting with a repost of my favorite show this year...that will come later this morning. Then next week will be a countdown of my favorite albums this year. We are gonna close out this year with the Lucero Message board December comp. It didn't have a designated theme of Christmas, but some of that ol' yultide spirit managed to slip in there. You can head over to the Lucero Message board [...]
It's New York Week next week on the History Channel. That means when you decide to take a break from your relentless rock and roll lifestyle, you'll have something better to watch than Cash Cab (lovin it like I do) as you sink into your couch. Since I am feeling fond of all things New York-related lately , I am going to TiVo this action (it starts November 19th). There's a big contest going on over at their website where you can get whisked off for a 4 day history-themed tour [...]

So here I go traipsing perilously into US Magazine territory, but bear with me, there's good music herewith. AOL Spinner blog posted a slideshow the other day of the 20+ musicians that Winona Ryder has been romantically linked to over the years . Quite unfathomable -- it reads like the most-played list on my iPod [er, no pun intended]. Amongst the mostly-vicious comments on the original post was this laughable one: " She dated MICHAEL NESMITH? UGH. If you're planning to date a Monkee, then choose Mickey Dolenz because at least he [...]

Nevermind the ghosts and goblins and black cats -- our local paper had a freakish feature yesterday in honor of Halloween, listing a whole bunch of real-life things that grown-ups can unabashedly be scared of. Some of the tamer ones were things like drug-resistant infections in hospitals, mountain lion attacks, political apathy, avalanches, houses built unwittingly on some of Colorado's many miles of old mine shafts. But these two parasites took the cake on a sliding scale of creepy crawly eeeeeew -gross. For a special Halloween treat [not for the faint of heart]: [...]

It's a sappy one, but a classic. Written by Johnny Christopher, Mark James and Wayne Carson Thompson, and originally recorded and released by Brenda Lee in 1972, Always On My Mind has really been made famous by Willie Nelson, the Pet Shop Boys and Elvis Presley. Willie's version hit number one on the Billboard chart, Pet Shop Boys snuck it into the Top 10 for a short time and Elvis reached number 16 with it on the Hot Country Singles Chart in 1973. The year previous, Brenda Lee could [...]

Born out of the ashes of the band Ice Water, Big Star was a bit of a shooting star in the grand scheme of rock n' roll. The band itself was only around for a few years and never very commercially successful. Their impact and influence, however, have withstood the test of time. They are now looked upon as one of the great power pop bands of their era. They found a way to blend all the best elements of pop the British Invasion and make it their own. [...]

This falls into the "have to share coz it's so cute" category. If you have kids, you know what a big deal it can be for them to decide what to be for Halloween. Sometimes it can change right up until the very last minute. My youngest daughter is fairly decisive when it comes to these matters, however, and this year she informed me she wants to go as Albert Einstein. Einstein? How in the world did she come up with this idea? Counting Crows [...]

The 90s was a strange and exciting time for me. Fresh out of school, weaning off flea-infested metal and senseless movies with young pretty actors filled with oddball dialogue that amounted to nothing. But more importantly, many nights sitting in front of my beat up stereo, catching the 8pm show on Time Highway Radio with my hand on the record button, waiting for those killer tracks. There was a new sound on radio then. A new sound that was loosely classified by This is Alternative stickers stuck on their albums. The idea [...]

Part 5 of our 7 part series... Monday – Thursday Nights The Daily Show/Colbert Report (Comedy Central) – America at its finest. Searing comedic insight into the hypocrisies and deficiencies of the media and government. Fans of "The Daily Show/Colbert Report" are people who care about the future of our country, and have a good sense of humor. They also tend to be young and Democratic. Don McLean - American [...]
I have pretty much had to burrow backwards in time to discover where this song came from, but find it I think I finally have. The last time I ever bought a Counting Crows records was Hard Candy, and I was sufficiently underwhelmed not to bother with them again. I was already rather losing interest by [...]
I thought that my first actual music post should give you an idea of where I'm coming from musically. So you are going to get some tunes from my favorite band of 1994. I remember driving in a frustrated, mad, heart broken rage to Gaffney, SC in the spring of 1995. The background music playing during this liberating journey came from "August and Everything After", the 1994 hit from the Counting Crows. The Counting Crows have recently released a Deluxe Edition of August and Everything After which includes several bonus tracks plus [...]

Counting Crows have been hard at work on their follow-up to 2002's "Hard Candy." The new record, tentatively titled, "Saturday Nights, Sunday Mornings," is expected to hit shelves sometime in November according to their label. Apparently, the record will be split into two parts, a primarily rock set and then an acoustic set. But being the nice guys they are, they've leaked a great new song, Cowboy , via a MySpace page appropriately called, " Saturday Nights And Sunday Mornings ." This is definitely falls on the rock side [...]
Somehow or the other we wind up talking about Rob Crow every week. Maybe 'cause we've got a big ol' crush on that crazy bearded SoCal indie rock songwriting machine. Today's excuse? New vid from Pinback, for the kick-ass lead track from their seasonally seasoned LP Autumn Of The Seraphs (out this fall!). Not much to tell ya about this one: Pinback under the pitch-black sky, bathed by flood lights and some luminescent sky madness, rocking "From Nothing To Nowhere" from the middle of nowhere. (Or, after seeing that slight screen warp at the end, maybe from Roswell...) [...]

Photography by Ms Kimberly Irene You know... scratch that, here's a song, fartin' around on the free wireless in the hotel (no Comedy Central??? how fucked up is that???) and saw this out there, Counting Crows new one "Come Around". A little roots rocker from there upcoming LP (which I know my mom will be very happy to here, she still has that crush on the singer), Saturday Nights, Sunday Mornings . So here you go! Enjoy. Flying home tomorrow... Airports, joy. [...]

Today is a day I've been waiting for since July 9, 2002 -- the day that Counting Crows ' last studio album Hard Candy came out, and the last time I heard anything new from them (Shrek soundtracks notwithstanding). It's a NEW SONG from this Berkeley band that I've long adored! Usually I close pop-ups, I block them outright, I don't look at them. But thanks to a little tipster in my inbox, I visited CountingCrows.com and let the pop-up of a Cracker Jack box advertising their [...]
It's likely that critics and listeners will consider Counting Crows' long-delayed third album, This Desert Life, another retro effort by a traditionalist band, but it's actually their most individual and finest album yet. Counting Crows - Hangin' Around (mp3)

Photography "Fetal" by Olga Gerrard Helpless like a little baby... Ah, travel sucks, eh? Stuck in an airport after my first flight got cancelled (plane broke, what the fuck?), and now the second flight is delayed. Joy. At least it's on the company dime, right? My mom loves this song (she also has a mad crush on Adam Duritz) and it always brings a smile to my face... Nothing to do, just hangin' around, this town, in the airport. Enjoy. [...]
