FUR (aka Bryce Isbell) just released his third album 'Witches' on the label Waaga Records. This album was the first offical release by Waaga. FUR is based in Denton, TX and composes the most intricate and beautiful electronic compositions. 'Witches' is the perfect mid-afternoon soundtrack filled with sunshine and relaxation. If you had any doubt the pure electronic music was still being made you need to hear FUR. If you need even more of a sample of his sound Waaga has released a free split ep featuring FUR and Coyote Clean UP called [...]

ARTIST: The SWAG Report 002 freebies from Hole, The Slackers, Elliott Smith, Echo And The Bunnymen and more! DATE: 03-13-10 WRITER: Don Loder Ya know? I didn't notice before how many songs bands are just giving away for free before I started putting this column together. All the world's a goddamn candyland for this stuff so I thought I'd load another installment in the chamber. So who wants more music? Do you? Sure you do – why wouldn't you. [view more]

Just as this darn weather breaks and sunshine creeps back into our lives, Waaga is on the button with another approved EP. Waaga's office is nine blocks from my apartment. I won't promise cookies, but I might stop by someday just to say thank you in person. I can promise to wash my hands, so the employee(s) get a sanitary embrace. The Lackadaisical EP is a split with Denton, TX's FUR and Detroit's Coyote Clean Up. Both artists make the sheen of lounge house, less about mannequins and...

I had this byzantine diatribe on covers planned for today. (The argument, essentially is this: it's fine for Limp Bizkit to cover George Michael, because, on the scale of artistic integrity, the former is a four and the latter is, at best, a six. It is not, however, okay for Dave Matthews (at best a three and three quarters) to cover Neil Young (a strong nine). Covers are like relationships; an insanely attractive woman is unlikely to find long term happiness with a dowdy dude (a nine cannot stay married to a three). As long as the coverer is in [...]

It feels like just last week that I was writing about Detroit bedroom project Coyote Clean Up. And now Chrissy from CCU is teaming up with Maryland artist Julia LaDense for their new project Chrissy and Julia. Can we go wrong here? Well I guess we could, but no we can't! The combination of Chrissy's sweeping synth with Julia's crunching samples on the duo's release, Getting Dirty , makes for a cool, albeit more experimental and abstract sound. The new project might not find as many ears as CCU's solo material, but who doesn't love a good collaboration? I don't. [...]
Orphan One of my favorite attractions from the past couple of months is Detroit's Coyote Clean Up, and one of my favorite attractions from the past couple of minutes is Nova Scotia's Orphan. Thus, could you imagine my surprise to discover that these two attractions have joined forces to create this spectacular feat? Now, you may have noticed my use of the terms 'attractions' and 'feat'. I use those terms because I am a circus ringmaster in the greatest show on earth and y'all are dancing bears in [...]

Detroit's Coyote Clean Up is in the business of making soothing tripped-out synth tracks and what a great time to be in business. CCU's songs are a little more house music-influenced than we've heard in some similar artists, and the track names are borderline ridiculous ("dumbassthings," "no xxx 4 me," "lackadaisical luv xxx f-u," etc.). In that same vein I should mention that the 2009 LP on which all these songs appear is titled Double Trouble Doo Doo Bubble . For a better idea at just who Coyote Clean Up is, let me direct you [...]
Denton resident and sometime Neon Indian-collaborator FUR sent over this laid-back "mutant tapeloop disco" after-hours jam, taken from an upcoming split EP with fellow purveyor of haunted lounge-house, Detroit's Coyote Clean Up (who has a free/recommended album available here). FUR's Witches -- which features said Palomo collab "Black Castles" -- is out now on Waaga. mp3: FUR :: clears... click through for more...

Rose Quartz L8 Winter Mix (43mb) Kind of weird; I woke up yesterday after literally weeks of grey/overcast skies and it was super sunny and also snowing horizontally out the window, real bright and amazing but certainly an odd/"day 2 remember" kind of thing. Anyway, this is uncharacteristic of my Winter experiences here in post-industrial Newcastle upon Tyne where it's generally dark (not in an overly bad way, there's just a lack of light). Anyway, these songs feel defining and in some strange way set into these variable daze so I thought I'd put them together in [...]
Sleep Over is a promising new group/girl gang featuring Stefanie Franciotti of Silver Pines. The group recently sent over "Your World is Night," a haunted, fully entrancing lullaby/dirge/lovesong that will appear on an upcoming split 7" with Pure Ecstasy, due out soon on Austin label Light Lodge. mp3: sleep over :: your world is night ****** elsewhere: Thanks to 20JFG for the heads up on... click through for more...
When you hear the banshee coming from down the mountain, she is still only a whisper. Surprise surprise (and much to your delight) when you find out that the banshee is always so gentle. How about an added bonus: The banshee loves MC Hammer! Yeah, it doesn't get much sicher. So acts like Universal Studios Florida [...]
