The question we here the most from the folks we interview is, "why do you call the site, 'the dumbing of america?". Our answer always comes back to the same premise. Inevitably, people choose bad music over good. Whether it's American Idol churning out mechanized pop or the cool kid blogs writing up Vampire Weekend for the zillionth time, there are so many good bands that continue to get ignored. To that end, we lost two bands in 2009 that deserved a better fate. Fear of Music and CPC Gangbangs made brilliant music and [...]

CPC Gangbangs - "Teenage Crimewave" My fucking fuck landlord slumlord fucker calls me downstairs for a meeting in his "office". It's an unfinished basement that looks like it has tar barf on all the stone walls, dark and runny and his big fat mug smoking cheap cigar after cheap cigar. "You haven't been paying your rent," he says, not looking at me. "I got your cheque right here," I say, and I throw a wet cheque at his combover. "This isn't enough!" he barks, "and you can't sign your cheques with a drawing of [...]

I remember thinking halfway through the M for Montreal festival, "None of these bands will ever play Market Hotel." So many of the bands exuded a professionalism/flash/showmans hip that you just couldn't imagine them playing a semi-legal venue in Brooklyn without a real stage* where your only beverage option is PBR. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I like a little showmanship and the bands' technical abilities, but after seeing so many DIY bands at DIY venues, it was a bit of a shock to see bands trying so hard. [...]

Wie sieht wohl das Bandfoto einer Gruppe aus mit dem Namen CPC Gangbangs? (more...)

Justice's remix of "As above, so below" is pretty hard to beat, but then again music is all about opinion and one man's meat is another man's poison. So, here are a couple of remixes that will hopefully spark interest. First up is CFCF , who acquired my notice when posted on Crystal Castles 's tracklist for their third album "Untrust Us". CFCF was able to get on the album by winning a remix contest held by Crystal Castles, who wanted to find someone to remix their song "Air War". You can find CFCF's remix of [...]

Second part of SXSW 2007 punk list. This one has fare more gothic metal feel to it. Not my usual flavor, but the dark gothic is really pleasant, in romantic sort of way. (Femur and Los Llamarada) I hope you enjoy this rather long punk list. I don't mind using this for drinking soundtrack. " SXSW 2007. Shiny Punk with Late Night Sweet " 01. El Jesus de Magico : New Moses (Columbus, OH) 02. Carbonas : Phone Booth (Atlanta, GA) 03. CPC Gangbangs [...]
