Craig Wedren of Shudder to Think has had an OK year by anyone's standards. He released The Spanish Amnesian , scored the sophomore season of Hung , performed chamber compositions with the ACME orchestra and toured with Greg Dulli. And evidently he's not letting the calendar flipping to 2011 slow him down, as he is dropping hints at a major announcement regarding his WAND multimedia project soon after the holiday. Out of the kindness of his heart, Wedren has also cooked up a little holiday goodie for [...]

In the alternate universe that holds underground rock 'n' roll music in its loving embrace, there is the equivalent of a Great American Songbook. And in that songbook there are many, many tracks written by Greg Dulli . The former Afghan Whigs fronter, now helming Twilight Singers but performing largely acoustic last night with two sidemen, enthralled the fortunate packed into a sold-out, 235-capacity movie theater, sharing a career-spanning set that was only upstaged by the man's rapier wit. Dulli recounted having seen the film "Kiss Of The Spiderwoman" at the same theater on a [...]

Citizen Cope , the musical persona of groove-meister Clarence Greenwood, is nearing the end of a long national tour behind his first album in four years, "The RainWater LP." Tonight's date is at the Wiltern. ... Straight outta mainland China, P.K. 14 and Carsick Cars rock the Viper Room — the latter's set earlier this week at the Echo was good, noisy fun. ... Ex-Beulah frontman Miles Kurosky plays the Echo, while ex-Shudder to Think frontman Craig Wedren plays the Bootleg Theater. ... And electro-pop phenom Owl City plays to [...]
What hasn't Craig Wedren done? His resume is a long list of musical endeavors: frontman of D.C.'s Shudder To Think, founder of disco/punk group Baby, composer for an extensive catalog of movies and TV shows, contributor to a variety of other bands and solo artist. He's even victoriously battled Hodgkin's lymphoma. And he shows no [...]

DOWNLOAD: Pocket featuring Steve Kilbey - "Hear in Noiseville" Last year, Pocket (aka Richard Jankovich) started releasing a series of singles where he collaborated with a "dream list" of vocalists on the A-Side and introduced a breaking artist on the B-Side. Each of these singles also featured three remixes from a variety of electronic music producers. Pocket has compiled the A-Sides from the first five singles along with five of the remixes and three of the B-Sides and has released this compilation through iTunes as " 5 [...]

Though the legendary post-hardcore band Shudder to Think are before my time, I was one of the awed fans at their Webster Hall reunion show in 2008, hardly believing they could sound this good after a ten-year hiatus. C raig Wedren's voice was as acrobatic and chilling as ever, and one look at the crowd summed up the mood: "Holy fucking shit." Team Love Records has trimmed up the best moments of the nine-show tour and created Live From Home , available September 15th. Says Wedren : [...]
The just announced Charles Spearin show at Le Poisson Rouge show made me want to dig a little deeper into the " Wordless Music " concert schedule for 2009 and when I did, I found lots of interesting things. A few of the things that caught my attention amongst the impressively eclectic lineup were: Toumani Diabate, James Blackshaw, Meg Baird, Craig Wedren, The Books, The Mountain Goats, John Vanderslice, Juana Molina and the aforementioned Spearin . The full schedule (so far) looks like this: June 25, 2009 JOHANN [...]
What if there was a library where you never had to worry that somebody had already checked out what you wanted and there were no late fees? Now what if that library was filled with something like the catalog of indie label Team Love ? Sounds like a dream, but guess what?! It exists. Tuesday, Team Love Records launched their online library. Basically, they're letting you download artists for free and letting you keep them with no hidden deletion dates or anything sneaky like that. All you have to do to start [...]

It would be impossible to fully describe the impact the sketch comedy troupe The State had on this blog and contemporary comedy in general, but the simplicity of this sketch and how well it holds up is proof enough. The Jew, the Italian, and the Red Head Gay was also a classic sketch from them. And of course who didn't love perhaps the greatest sketch they ever did except for the one [...]
