I'm sitting here on a beautiful sunny day listening to Irish rock band The Cranberries , and realized that we've never posted anything from them. How is that possible? The beautiful voice of Dolores O'Riordan must be heard! One of my favorite tracks by the band will hopefully make your Sunday as chill and melancholy as mine! Let your Animal Instinct free and download this track! Animal Instinct ( Download ) [...]
On January 9th, 2009 Dolores, Noel and Mike will reunite and perform at the University Philosophical Society, Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland. The performance will be part of Dolores' induction as an Honorary Patron at the Phil. However there is no news as to a long term reforming of the band. To set the record straight on how I feel about Limerick's finest..... Zombie is poor and frankly the last two albums were not good either. But their debut and follow up can stand up and be counted as some of the best music this country has produced! Doloras [...]

This is primerily a repost from Mixtape4melfi. Winning the Oscar this year is in my eyes the greatest thing for Irish Artists since The Cranberries exploded on the college radio scene in the 90's. Add to this the fact that they appeared in The Simpsons! How mad is that? Glen Hansard and the Frames have been around the Irish Music scene for two decades now. Glen played Outspan in the 1990 Movie The Commitments. Glen formed the band the Frames and to date he has released [...]

I got my wish: the WAFFLES invite! YESSSSS I am happy. I was gonna post some Christmas songs but decided to do something else instead. If you want awesome Christmas songs and mixtapes... go here. Here are some videos which I find, have been somewhat forgotten. I have phases every couple months or so where I listen to nothing but 80/90's artists. All the way from Blur, Oasis, Cranberries to *NSync, Backstreet Boys, Mariah, Janet and Madonna. Oooooooooh yeah. It feels sooo right... =) HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE! Enjoy some classics!...starting with TLC =) [...]

Photography by Julie Rey Say whaaaat ? We already got enough songs for Volume Two, or as the French Canadian says, "Volume Deux, eh"? Fuck yeah! Or as the French Canadian would also say, " Québec Devienne Souverain !" Seems like just the other day we squeaked out our first twenty songs in our first volume of our much hailed and heralded Mixtape By Numbers , but our amazing members down in the society weren't content to stop at 20 [...]
I recently got the DVD box set of My So-Called Life. I was a teenager when this show first aired. I watched about 10 minutes of one episode and didn't get into it. It was in a sucky time slot on Thursday nights. When it was canceled after one season and MTV began airing the show in reruns, that's when I got hooked. I could relate to Angela's angst. It was amazing to see a show about teenagers that actually felt real. The dialogue wasn't cheesy. The storylines weren't cliched. I would watch the show on MTV, and [...]

Another mix of Irish Musicians and Bands for the blog today. The mix begins with Declan O'Rourke's exceptional Last Night In A Dream recorded live for songs from a parlour. Next is a singer getting massive amounts of interest Wallis Bird. Recently reformed Lir and mega stars The Cranberries are also included. New artists are represented by Ian Whitty and The Hot Sprockets. To finish is the recently disbanded Leya with a rocking Frames like tune. Declan O'Rourke - Last Night In A Dream MySpace Wallis Bird - Counting To [...]
Yes, this is a recipe for brined and roasted turkey with a musical accompaniment, but I'd rather call it Can You Eat the Turkey From the Southside? Seriously folks, Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away. So I've had deep-fried turkey (good), smoked turkey (even better), but my favorite way to cook a turkey for Thanksgiving (or even Christmas) is brined and roasted. Yes, I'll admit that I ganked the original recipe from the amazing Alton Brown a few years ago, but I've made some minor (and delicious) changes. Here's the recipe: [...]

"Salvation," The Cranberries' 1996 hit from their third album To The Faithful Departed, is the most obvious of anti-drug tunes. With bland, overly straightforward lyrics like "to all those people doin' lines, don't do it," being sober never sounded so lame. Good thing the song had such a creepy video. Until last year, I had only seen this demonic sucker once when I was 11, but it's been etched in my mind ever since. First and foremost, it features a clown. Now, in today's world, clowns are harder to make scary than [...]

So election day is winding down, and I hope you've either voted already or you're on your way! At lunch I sat down to watch some CNN and all the Election Day '08 stuff, but I have to admit I got side-tracked when I found that Finding Nemo was playing on the Disney channel. Man, Pixar can do no wrong. Anyways, here's a couple election day songs to make you feel good about doing your civic duty! The Cranberries - Free To Decide from [...]

I've always enjoyed cover versions of songs. A cover song can either be recorded differently or as close to the original as possible... whichever the case, it always makes for a fun listen. Very often I find that a good cover song can reinvigorate my interest in the original, like the [...]
![Celebrating 20 Years Of Modern-Rock Countdowns, From Siouxsie To Staind [Corporate Rock Still Sells]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1242125_lg.jpg)
Many people find it hard to tell the great from the godawful when it comes to 21st-century mainstream rock. To help figure out which is which, here's "Corporate Rock Still Sells," where Al "GovernmentNames" Shipley examines what's good, bad, and ugly in the world of rock and roll. This time around, he celebrates the 20th anniversary of Billboard 's Modern Rock chart by cherry-picking some of its most oddly notable chart-toppers: Last month, the Hot 100—the big cheese of Billboard 's singles charts—turned 50, and the publication's [...]

While sweet delicate female songstresses are always enjoyable, sometimes it's nice to find one that can rock out a bit. Glaswegian singer Amy MacDonald fits that bill perfectly. Start off with Dolores O'Riordan from The Cranberries , turn her Scottish, put her behind an acoustic guitar and mix in another part KT Tunstall , and you're in the right ballpark for Amy. She manages to maintain that Scottish otherness while rocking out while still feeling acoustic. I'm not sure how, but she manages it - listen to the leed off track Mr. Rock & [...]
Happy Birthday To You Happy Birthday To You Happy Birthday Dear Julia Happy Birthday To You MP3 - Frank Sinatra - Happy Birthday To You Julia to celebrate your 21st birthday I've posted MP3s and videos from the top 10 the day you were born. I wish I could say the top 10 was full of [...]

So, the whole idea behind guilty pleasures is that you should feel at least somewhat guilty about listening to them. If you don't feel guilty about it, do you really have a guilty pleasure? Technically, no. But there are cases were you should feel guilty about it, but don't for some reason. Usually you "justify it" in some crazy and not-completely-logical way. Yeah, we know you do it (and, in all honesty, we may or may not do it ourselves). Without further ado, here are some songs that should-be our guilty pleasures (and some [...]

Beating Monday Blues has been somewhat AWOL the past few weeks as I've moved into a new house, complete with all apparently unavoidable internet troubles and general hassles. But we're back strong this week with some crackin' good tunes (does anyone even say that anymore?) to help brighten your work week. Here we go: 65daysofstatic , handpicked by Robert Smith himself for an opening slot on The Cure tour, are offering their fans the chance to remix their track Dance Parties . They're off the road [...]

Because... We're feeling like zombies today, having stayed up till 5.30am the night before to watch Manchester United beat Chelsea to win the European Champions League Cup (one of those incongruent timezone things that Europe will never get). Still, I'll have you know that feeling like a zombie is the second best feeling in the world, next to feeling a zombie. Like, fo' real. Go test it out. The Cranberries - Zombie (from No Need To Argue ) Tell me you didn't want to sing this every time you [...]
