For those of you who have visited this particular blog in the past, it is no secret that I will shortly be packing up the family and moving out west. I'm opening a new pizza place on Commercial Drive that I hope each and every one of you will have a chance to frequent consistently in the near future. Aside from the business side of the move, I am most excited about living in a city with a reliable music scene. I have spent a lot of time pondering all of the shows I will be [...]

Went to see C.R. Avery at Zaphod Beeblebrox on November 13, 2010. It was a great show, he did the solo performance with the beatboxing and spoken word poetry. This time he had a different band. It was more of rock feel to it. C.R. is such a multi-talented musician artist. It was a great night. Here are the rest of the photos [...]

Taken at OCFF on October of 2008. Through word of mouth on Septh 10, 2009. I didn't even know he was in Ottawa. I found out that C.R. Avery was playing a show in Ottawa at the NAC's 4th Stage. It was a very nice intimate show he did. With the tables surrounding it, felt like some cool bluesy show with beatbox-rapping. I thought he would have his band Legal Tender String Quartet but it was just him doing a solo show. Mentioned that it would cost alot to [...]

( Here's a post I wrote early on - way back in August when I saw him open for Billy Bragg in Chicago, it didn't get much of an audience, so I'm gonna repost it for ya now as I'm still in Munich with family. Apologies to JC who might be the only one who's read this before! ) Sometimes you just sit there with your mouth open...and you really can't describe what you've seen for perhaps a week or two. Yeah, that happened to me. Honestly. I just thought I was going to see Billy Bragg. You [...]

CR Avery 's art is like a beautiful car wreck where poetry, song, harmonica and beatboxing are all twisted together into something you want to put into a museum. It has a timeless feel yet is undeniably current. I had been looking to interview the elusive CR Avery since I saw him perform at the CJSF Anniversary Party, where he opened for Secret Mommy no less. And I was warned that Avery is sometimes hard to track down. [...]

and you really can't describe what you've seen for perhaps a week or two. Yeah, that happened to me. Honestly. I just thought I was going to see Billy Bragg. You pretty much know what you're gonna get at a Billy Bragg concert: good tunes, tunes you've heard for years, some new stuff off his latest album, (which I quite like, by the way), some political rants, (which I also quite like, by the way), a lot of warm fuzzies, a roomful of middle aged to aging middle class folks like me. What can I really tell you? Billy Bragg [...]
