...and he went. Poor Ronnie Wood . Making Pete Doherty look like a total lightweight, he's been on a bit of a bender recently, going off without his wife of 23 years, instead taking with him a 20 year old Russian 'cocktail waitress' (and escort) to Ireland for a massive drink, drugs and how's yer father session. And now he's in rehab trying to save both his vital organs and his marriage. Being a Rolling Stone, surely that's all part of the job? Just ask Keith Richards or Bill Wyman. At least Ronnie's girlfriend was above the legal age of consent. To [...]

Gonna post this for several reasons: 1. Since the Roundhouse shows I've completely rekindled my obsession with MBV. I've been checking tour schedules and cheap flights to see if there's any way I can see them again. Haven't done that since last summer's Daft Punk show. 2. I watched (strangely enough for the first time!) the Lazenby Bond flick 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' at the weekend and really enjoyed it. 3. In keeping with our 'blog what we play' ideal then I really should as it's become a firm 'end of the night' [...]

The subtitle of this post my very well turn out to be "How I Alienated My Religious Readers" but I got a little something stuck in my craw while reading up for this week's Science Tuesday. My last job, at Oxford, was working in a lab that focused on evolutionary developmental biology. This field of study, and in fact all life sciences, take as a given a modification of Darwin's theory of evolution. Most educated people around the world operate under the assumption that life as we know it today is the result of changes in the inherited traits of [...]

Total Lunar Eclipse tonight February 20th, 2008. This will probably be the only total lunar eclipse of the year. And while the earth's shadow is upon our moon, the moon will appear red. "Earth has an atmosphere. The delicate layer of dusty air surrounding our planet reddens and redirects the light of the sun, filling the dark behind Earth with a sunset-red glow." (From Science@nasa ) Read more here : What an amazing display of God's creativeness! t00-m0ch, Chris christophercarder.com [...]

The Creation was one of the most under-appreciated Mod/British Invasion bands of the 1960s. The band saw its beginnings in 1963 when vocalist Kenny Pickett and guitarist Eddie Phillips formed The Mark Four. Mercury Records picked up the group in 1964, but British sales of their two singles were sluggish, but at the same time their recordings sat quite well with German audiences, where they would frequently do residences. The band eventually disintegrated in 1966 and was left to Pickett, Phillips, and drummer Jack Jones. The trio was joined by ex-Merseybeats [...]

Well, you may consider me an idiot, but I admit it, I believe in God. It is not the God you find in church mind you. It is not the God you find at the Vatican. It is not found in any dogmatic version of religion setup by imperfect man. It is the God of symmetry, nature, and all things perfect as they are existing in the timeless realm of the universe. I guess it is existence itself that proves for me that some sort of higher being or power exists and is radiating our atoms and [...]

How many times, so far, have you watched Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited trailer? I think here at the A.D. home offices we are up to around, oh, ten, give or take a few. Back in 2005 Wes Anderson was the first filmmaker profiled in our (presently on hiatus) series A Soundtrack Enthusiast. For [...]
The Kinks | "This Time Tomorrow" As i'm sure most of you know by now, the trailer for Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited premiered in glorious quicktime a few days ago. I've been waiting for so long to see what this newest Wes Anderson venture would look like in motion from the many images and posters I had seen so far. It's great to see from the trailer that the same humor, tone and choice of music still fit [...]

Not much to link the tracks today apart from: a) They [...]
Sometimes in musical history those who do things first get overshadowed by those who do it bigger or with more polish. Such is the case with the following two bands; The Pretty Things, whose credit for writing the first full length rock opera is often overshadowed by The Who's Tommy, and The Creation who were the first to adapt the violin bow to play a guitar. Bigger isn't always better and polish and money aren't always substitutions for ingenuity. So here's to those who did it first. [...]
