Well, if the theme this week was for alcohol, I would be all set. I apparently have a TON of drinkin' songs. But very few food songs. So sad. Here's what I do have that I'll share: We Are The Vegetables - INXS. One of their very early songs which never made it onto any of their albums until the Anthology, so while it has a similar sound to their debut album and Underneath the Colours, you can tell they're still just finding their way back in the late [...]

Decided to stop lurking and post some music. What a great way to do a first post, reveal my age. *shrugs* Oh well. Anyway, 1969 was a great year, or so I'm told. I really don't remember much of it, being born in August right after the moon landing, but before Woodstock. And between Woodstock and Altamont, it was a good year for memorable concerts. I don't have many songs from 1969, but here's what I do have and like, in no particular order: Proud Mary [...]
Since around 2005 I've been a major advocate of new music. My hard disk has vast quantities of music from post 2001. But deep down, I'm a fan of classic rock and pop. Music from the 50's, 60's and 70's was my staple until very recently. That, and the quality pop from the 80's and 90's. Recently I've been returning to my musical roots. Interestingly, much of this old music was discovered recently. But somehow these songs get filed away as classics, and acquire much of the warmth of the songs I heard before I could even speak. [...]

Brian at Moistworks posted about something I've been thinking about since the Internet became the primary means of distributing of music. Here's some quotes from his post : This week, Moistworks takes up the theme of "conversion." As the week's posts will show, this theme is subject to broad interpretation. But being the first up to bat, I decided to write a little about the concept of "conversion" as it most closely relates to Moistworks and mp3 blogs in general. Here at Moistworks, we give away other people's songs. That's what mp3 blogs [...]

"You might've heard I run with a dangerous crowd/ We ain't too pretty we ain't too proud" We take full responsibility if yesterday proved to be an especially painful Monday. It was painful for us, too - too painful even to post TGIM. But Tuesday is the new Monday and The Canals have always been ahead of the curve. Here are some very Friday tunes to cheer up your Monday (Tuesday). Cornershop - Brimful Of Asha Jamie Lidell - Multiply Ben [...]

Andrea, Barry, Chantal, Dean, Erin, Felix, Gabrielle, Humberto, Ingrid, Jerry, Karen, Lorenzo, Melissa, Noel, Olga, Pablo, Rebekah, Sebastien, Tanya, Van and Wendy. That's this year's list of hurricane names. There are six lists that rotate and they do not change unless there is a hurricane that is so devastating that the name is retired , then another name replaces it. Today is the official beginning of the 2007 Hurricane Season. A couple of weeks ago we had an early arrival with the formation of Tropical Storm Andrea. Unless you live on the East or Gulf Coast, Hurricane Season probably [...]

Doing this episode has been a shameful experience for me, as it has made me realise how little I know about these excellent bands. I've had their music for ages and known all along that they're good, yet never given them the time they deserve. So when I went to pick songs to use, I was repeatedly slapped in the face by my ignorance. Going through their catalogues of great music to find the best would simply take too long. Similarly using other people's suggestions would be a shallow representation, as it would just be pushing my bullshitting skills to [...]

Chemises blanches, chemises [...]

For John Fogerty , The Long Road Home to Fantasy Records was a triumphant return to his former record label. So what better way to celebrate than with a concert at L.A.'s Wiltern Theatre in September 2005. Just this past summer, Fantasy released the live concert DVD , The Long Road Home â€" In Concert , featuring all 26 songs recorded at that very special show, which covered Fogerty's entire career, from Creedence Clearwater Revival to his solo albums like Blue Moon Swamp, Premonition and Centerfield. [...]

Welcome to the latest installment of the Cover-Song Showcase Showdown, in which we present readers with a few covers of a well-known chestnut--and you let us know which version you like best. Today's candidate for coverage is "I Heard It Through The Grapevine," the 1967 soul stirrer that Marvin Gaye took to the top of the charts. We've got three different versions of "Grapevine" for you to choose from, courtesy of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Kaiser Chiefs, and The Slits; be sure to give your computer some extra bandwidth when you download the CCR version, as it clocks [...]
#45 - Creedence Clearwater Revival - Green River This will not be a regular post. I'm feeling nostalgic. I went through the rebellion phase my junior year of high school. I was fed up with pop music, being quiet, and living in my brother's shadow. I started smoking cigarettes, sneaking the vodka from my parents liquor cabinet, and blasting Creedence Clearwater Revival. I've been sitting in my apartment for the past 2 hours listening to Green River and feeling like I was 17 [...]
I never really had got to have the summer camp experience as a kid, except for one weekend in sixth grade when I went to orchestra camp (don't ask). I kind of envied kids who did get to go to camp, but only because it meant they got to spend the summer someplace else but home. I don't know if I would've done well at camp...I was never really the outdoor type. But, it would've been cool to do it
