Even though there was a three-year time lapse between Creeping Weeds ' full-length debut, We Are All Part of a Dream You're Having, and their latest, Seeing Through , which was released at the beginning of 2011, the wait was totally worth it.Recorded and mixed at Hot Horse! Studios & the Fletcher St. Fallout Shelter, Seeing Through is a trippy dose of hushed, plucky folk with hook-driven swirls of 70's beach-bum psych-pop and 90's American underground indie. The record builds on the ecstatic buzz their debut created, giving fans a fine body to explore. [...]

Dress Like Your Idols is the latest release from BOAT on the Magic Marker record label. It is also their first in a professional studio (the now-defunct Two Sticks Audio in Seattle). The awesome album art pays tribute to album covers of the 90s and beyond - D Crane -style. The band still plays the same raucous indie pop. It's just not as "sloppy" as it used to be. Listen. Downloadable: Forever in Armitron (mp3) You can purchase the CD or LP of Dress Like Your Idols [...]

Fledgling glossy, all-local, quarterly music mag Jump is having their launch party tonight at National Mechanics. Creeping Weeds will be on hand helping them celebrate the momentous occasion. Their long-awaited sophomore full-length See Through was released this past February, and did not disappoint for fans of the indie pop songsmiths. (You can read our review of their album HERE .) They will be joined this evening by experimental surf-punk trio Mercury Radio Theater and pop rockers Lamagier . DJs Honkytron (electronic rock-a-soul-billy) and Bropar (punk) will be spinning throughout the [...]

Earlier this year, spacey Philadelphia five-piece Creeping Weeds emerged from a two-year hibernation to release its sophomore album See Through , a lush puzzle of pristine psychedelic pop juxtaposed alongside claustrophobic, nervous rockers. The music is engrossing, but so are the lyrics, which abstractly mull over the existential conundrum of making art versus making a living. That's a dilemma that anyone creatively inclined—musicians, visual artists and writers—can relate to. So the Weeds seem a fitting choice to play the launch party of Jump Philly , a new quarterly [...]

Keath's Best of February Okay, so I've been doing my "Only Listen to Music Released in 2011 in 20113 experiment for a full month (though I've only been blogging about it for 2 weeks), and I thought it would be nice to recap the month. Best Album of February Dynamite Steps by The Twilight Singers . What I said : While not as vicious an exorcism as 1965 was, Dulli hasn't lost his knack [...]

It's been about four years since Creeping Weeds ' promising debut full-length, and from the sound of things, not that much has changed. The band still has a knack for chiseling out perfect, multi-layered pop songs along the lines of Elliot Smith or The Shins, and like those artists, they seem to feel most comfortable eschewing the lo-fi trend in favor of a quaint, yet crystal-clear production sound. If anything at all is different in their latest effort See Through , it's that these songs have an added breeziness. They're just a tad bit lighter, both in tone [...]

P hiladelphia's Creeping Weeds is a band that's unanchored from time and place. While their sound sinuously threads itself through decades of rock, psych and pop from both sides of the ocean, their songs pull in and out of focus – from microscopic detail to otherworldly vastness – often instantly and without warning. This filmic sense of time, space and place is at once commandingly controlled, unnervingly unhinged and the nexus of their latest release, See Through . [...]

It's been a while since we've heard from psych-pop Fishtown natives Creeping Weeds . But Pete Stewart and the rest of the crew have finally emerged through the looking glass, after four years since the release of their promising debut We Are All Part of the Dream You Are Having , with another impressive new album in See Through . Their signature pop hooks and irregular arrangements remain intact, but they have also found a precarious balance between the two forces that makes for a most enjoyable listen! During tonight's album release party at Johnny Brenda's you [...]

Deerhoof performs 2/11 at TLA FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 11 It's been just under nine years since Deerhoof released Reveille —the album that would thrust the band into indie-nation's collective consciousness—on Kill Rock Stars /5RC back in 2002. Since then, the band has cranked out records like clockwork, with seven additional proper full lengths (not to mention 7-inches and EPs) simultaneously confounding and pleasing fans of the band's fractured art rock. Deerhoof's latest album is Deerhoof Vs. Evil , and it finds the band [...]

It's a sandy SF lo-fi sound that could have come out of a beach-y outer Sunset garage.
