Angie Bruss of NewsOK.tv interviews Jeff Moore of the Oklahoma History Center about their rock and roll exhibit, Another Hot Oklahoma Night . After the jump, check out a long interview with The Collins Kids , as well as video from their performance at the VIP opening of the exhibit. (more...)

Crocodiles are a duo from the SoCal noise/rock scene (see Mika Miko, Dum Dum Girls, etc) that are grabbing the attention of many with their cooler than thou demeanor and better sounding drum machines than you would expect. It doesn't hurt that lead man Brandon Welchez danced around stage in a bit of an awkward dance that resembled and epileptic tirade or that weird part in Garden State where Natalie Portman starts dancing all funny. Their music live sounds like what you would expect old vinyl to sound like (crackle and all) and don't pay attention to [...]

Hey Marseilles ::: Photo by Josh Thanks be to the furies that Via Tribunali was finally open for this famished soul. A reasonably priced Tuscan bottle of wine that was really good immediately following the uncorking gurgled in the cauldron of my stomach as we eagerly awaited something to soak it up. You pretty much can't go wrong with thin slices of freshly cut prosciutto, and suffice it to say that we consumed our fair share on both appetizers and a pizza, following dinner up with an also delicious Tiramisu (which I have to try [...]

Ida Maria ::: Photo By Josh Sunday Night's two-band bill at the Crocodile was sponsored by the End 107.7 and titled "Are You On The List?" Apparently all you had to do email DJ harms to get on the list. Sweet. Lesli Wood's new band the Redwood Plan had the opening honors and they didn't waste the opportunity to pick up some new fans. Lesli was a natural front-woman behind the Les Paul for the now defunct Ms. Led, but now largely freed from guitar duty she positively bounces while handling the synth. [...]

Let me begin with the almost trademark brilliant live video. Interest fact: I had a dream I was playing hide and seek with this person. Even as a massive Bjork fan I'm willing to admit that seen in the wrong light some of her music is a bit silly and the pretentiousness surrounding her can get a bit tiresome. But the main reason critics, fans and converts continue to worship her is due to her staggering talent. In a music business where something truly unique is [...]

Like The Jesus & Mary Chain locked in a drug den on a heroin comedown in the LES circa Now. If you don't get that as praise you're reading it wrong. (Fat Possum, please feel free to quote that in any and all press releases...) Crocodiles - Flash of Light (254 kbps VBR)

San Diego duo the Crocodiles released its debut Summer of Hate on Wednesday and its feedback-infused, minimalist, Jesus and Mary Chain brand of 80s pop has been blowing up the blogosphere ever since. Does it merit all the hype?

San Diego's Crocodiles make their first appearance in Indianapolis, supporting long-standing local monsters of rock Those Young Lions . The MyOldKentuckyBlog.com Summer Concert Series welcomes both bands to The Vollrath on May 19th. Tickets are $6 in advance or, even better, for a very limited time you can buy four for $20 . Lots of new releases this week, but none that I'm particularly excited about. Though, I am a little intrigued with A Camp , a collaboration between Nina Persson of The Cardigans , and Niclas Frisk. At this point, I will pretty much listen to anything Persson is involved with. Some other notable releases include Bob Dylan's Together Through Life (his 46th album!), Thee Oh Sees' Help , Immaculate Machine's High , Still Flyin's Never Gonna Touch The Ground , and Japandroids' [...]

Lo-fi is becoming an unavoidable aesthetic in modern alternative music. The cycles of Wavves and Vivian Girls echo minimalistic efforts the likes of which Robert Pollard has made a career (and roughly 1200 sonds) out of. And in the recent trend I have grown an attentive, almost unhealthy and unexplained obsession with the material. Crocodiles , however, have taken a more ear-friendly approach to the subject while still admiring the close resemblance of iconic 80's noise pioneers The Jesus and Mary Chain. The band's [...]
On the surface, there's oh so much to love about the band Crocodiles. Their sound, most reminiscent of late 80's Jesus and Mary Chain with some Velvet Underground, Suicide and Spacemen 3 thrown in, has all the markings of a retro-fitted classic band. Think early Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, with a smarter, more relevant temprament. Throw that on top of the lo-fi noise rock production values that seem to be dominating these days with bands like Vivian Girls, Wavves and No Age, and you get what should be more than a winning combination. It's psychedelic and gritty guitar-heavy garage rock [...]

Straight derivative is probably the easiest way to describe Crocodiles' debut long player Summer of Hate . The album sounds like an exact replica of folks like The Jesus and Mary Chain and Echo and the Bunnymen, and it doesn't sound like Crocodiles are ashamed in any way by their ability to show off their fanaticism like they do here. Of course this is the sound of the moment, we have heard so many bands compared to The Jesus and Mary Chain over the past few months that it the sight of such a similarity should make us sick, [...]

Another Tuesday is here. This is probably one of the hottest Tuesdays yet! This weeks releases are pretty slim. I guess April is finally taking a breather. Good thing too because May is going to be quite the busy month! Here are the good fellas: (after the jump) A Camp - Colonia A Camp is the collaboration between the Cardigans' Nina Persson and Niclas Frisk. I quickly listened to the song "Stronger Than Jesus" and thought it was [...]

Every week we team up with our good friends at Hypeful to bring you the week's best new album releases. There's quite a bit to choose from this week so check out some of the streams and MP3's posted after the jump before you make your decision. If we've left anything off the list feel free to let us know in the comments section. Also, I know of at least one person who is going to be nail-spitting angry that my "Pick of the Week" wasn't the Dylan album, but I haven't heard it and there's [...]

Artist: Crocodiles Album: Summer of Hate (Fat Possum) Mp3: "Neon Jesus" Mp3: "Summer of Hate " This record blindsided us the week before SXSW. Then, Crocodiles went down south and blindsided the entire festival. Garnering wide-sweeping praise for their live show, on this blog and elsewhere, Crocodiles have just released their debut Summer of Hate today on Fat Possum. While the latter half of the record has lost some of it's luster over [...]
