We continue our catch up from vacation whilst filtering through the old inbox. Here is an assortment of MP3s, streams and videos for you to consider. MP3s The Blakes - "Art of Losses" It's been two years since their last album, and Art of Losses shows that these three brothers from Seattle haven't lost a step. We're featuring the title track. Word has it that the trio headed recorded [...]

Crocodiles’ music might be dark and fuzz-strewn but it’s pop, ecstatic pop too, if the opening/title track of their third album is anything to go by. The Jesus and Mary Chain (especially), The Cure and Suicide are some of the touchstones for the band but it’s easy to forget those things when you’re coasting on the fast and frenzied rhythms of ‘Sunday (Psychic Conversation #9)’ or wallowing in the catchy choruses of ‘Electric Death Song’. The darkness is stagey and arty but makes for very effective pop music. While it was recorded in [...]

Kevin Cummins There are two points about New Order that are difficult to dispute. a) They were one of the greatest bands of the '80s, whose run of albums from 19832s Power, Corruption & Lies through 19892s Technique and including 19872s singles collection Substance templated and led that which we'd call indie, New Wave, post-punk, dance-rock, electronica, and were massively commercially successful at the same time. Their legacy is deep and far-reaching and even after their heyday, when roster changes and internal bickering overshadowed their music, they still [...]

We've been enthusiastically backing the delightfully nostalgic, throwback-esque-yet-refreshing ly-relevant lo-fi psych-rock sounds of Crocodiles for quite awhile now, so you can probably imagine just how excited we are about finally having them swing through town - and with Kanine-powered pop sweethearts Eternal Summers (plus a few of us slinging tunes in between sets), to boot! Man, oh man! I can't possibly recommend this show enough, kiddos. Crocodiles & Eternal Summers Doors at 9:00 • $10/12 • 18+ New World Brewery: 1313 E. 8th [...]

When I think of crocodiles, it's typically in the "don't get in the water" where there may be some...the other day my Facebook feed delivered me a different form of the scaled reptile, however. This one makes summery pop tracks to swoon over and put on repeat. "Endless Flowers" is nostalgia coated, fuzzy, dreamy, and a few other things that I'm sure you've heard on this blog a time or three. They are also apparently pretty tongue in cheek, as evidenced by the video for this track which is creepy stalker to the max. That Crocodiles [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News YouTube If organizers of the 4Knots Music Festival needed proof they'd put together a killer lineup for this year's show, they definitely got it yesterday. Around 4PM, a three-alarm fire broke out beneath Pier 17 at New York City's South Street Seaport , home of the all-day indie-rock event, and as black smoke filled the sky and firefighters swarmed [...]

Crocodiles latest record Endless Flowers has been on the receiving end of a lot of attention over the past few weeks. The album has a kind of '80s feel, owing a debt to Psychedelic Furs in particular and none more so than latest single and title track, 'Endless Flowers'. One of many delights on the album, swaying back and [...]

Crocodiles, "No Black Clouds For Dee Dee"

It’s good to be a music fan in Philadelphia. It seems to me that there has never been a better time to see live shows in Philadelphia than of late. Not only are local bands forming and churning out great music constantly, but entire venues have sprung up in the last couple of years, making it possible to see more shows than ever. Tonight alone there are 16 concerts listed on the Swollen Fox Philadelphia concert calendar, and (as real veterans of the Philadelphia music scene know) far more beyond the ones listed. Plus, as I mentioned in a recent [...]
The real best music video of this week isn't on this list, since it wasn't actually a music video at all. But Frank Ocean's performance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon was drop-dead gorgeous. It won't leave my head anytime soon, and I don't especially want it to. But there were also plenty of strong regular-definition music videos this week, and we've picked five of them. Check below. Eclectic Seattle Band Campfire OK is all about surprises.

On Nothing 's latest single "Downward Years to Come," the drums and guitar smack you with a barrage of unrelenting force from the get-go, but then the calming, hushed vocals of frontman Domenic Palermo lulls you into a dream-like state. They mesh together tugging and pulling you from the inside-out just before ambient waves of sonic bliss wash you away into an ocean of nothing making it difficult to decide where you truly belong in this world. It's that inner struggle between joy and sorrow that makes you feel alive, and beckons you to take another listen. Well, you [...]
