We write from our hearts, which happens to be something that we strongly demand from any bands that are covered on these blog pages. There are few rules to earn your place on The Recommender, except that you have to be bloody good and write your music with integrity. If we like you then we write you, and today's recommendation has our hearts properly hooked. We're certainly not the first online commentators to point this duo out to people, because they've enjoyed a building swarm of online coverage as we lead up to their debut album. They've earned [...]

D.L. Anderson It's unlikely bird videos will ever achieve the same degree of online adoration as, say, cat videos, but when said clips come courtesy of artists who push the boundaries of what can be called folk music the way that North Carolina's Bowerbirds and Chicago's Andrew Bird do, a little more attention should be paid. Both artists released their new albums this week - The Clearing and Break It Yourself , respectively - and both have marked the occasion with the [...]

photo by Victoria Holt You'd think with his involvement in the recent reunion of Archers of Loaf that Eric Bachmann might set aside his long-running solo project for a while. But no, the ever-prolific songwriter, performer, and producer is actually intertwining his current tour with the iconic 902s indie rock pioneers with that of his own band, Crooked Fingers . It probably shouldn't come as too much of a surprise then that this double duty follows Bachmann's recent time abroad, when he gave up music to live in Taiwan and teach English. Apparently, though, performing [...]
A long time ago in our galaxy I used to create monthly lists that I referred to as Best of the Month (BOTM). Along the way life became more filled and music gathering, curating, and dissemination became more and more pushed to the periphary. Today as I was cleaning up a personal hard drive I stumbled upon these tracks that at some point I thought worthy of being shared. So I'll just dump them here (mostly so I can empty that folder from the drive). Enjoy the music. mp3 : Cee Lo - Radioactive (Kings [...]

I fixed my tail light. It was a simple matter of checking the fuses, noting that the 8A fuse was blown, and swapping it out. Still having issues with the front indicator and running light, but thanks to the good folk at BMW 2002 FAQ, I should have it figured out in the near future. On to the show. Tonight's show was all about current favorites. I played a few tracks discovered within the last week, and several that have been in heavy rotation on my personal playlist of late. [...]
Tweet vaso link From their album Breaks In The Armor , here is the new video from Crooked Fingers for "Our New Favorite."

“I’m looking for something that’ll…break through. You know?” James Woods’ Max Renn yearns in David Cronenberg’s 1983 cult classic Videodrome . Oh, how things have changed. In today’s day and age, we’ve already drowned in media. It’s swallowed us. We’re nothing but a bubble amidst one infinite, engulfing abyss. Intimidated? You should be. With each passing second, you’re losing opportunities to take advantage of a culture that’s moving ahead and at an exhausting rate. You could very well be alone…left behind…abandoned. Terrified yet? Yes? Well, that’s more like it. -Michael Roffman President/Editor-in-Chief [...]
Check out the video for the Breaks In The Armor closer.

Youth isn't always wasted on the young, as evidenced by Crooked Fingers ' music video for "Our New Favorite". In the clip, our precocious protagonist spends her time laying about the grass, squashing airplanes between her fingers. On a hike one day, she finds a box of torn-up photos, prompting her to put them back together like a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle. In the end, she proudly displays the antique photos, demonstrating some obscure, literati-esque notion that there is purpose in being a kid/teen, even if it's only to realize that one day you won't always be so lucky. Watch the [...]

Frank Yang A better writer might be able to come up with some angle that relates the sudden one-day cold snap that hit Toronto on Saturday and the long-awaited, much-anticipated local debut by Mr Charles Bradley at Lee's Palace, but sadly, all I can come up with is something like how it was cold outside but hot inside and that's pretty weaksauce, so I'll just move on. A little surprisingly, support for this tour came from across the Atlantic in the form of English power trio Little Barrie , who were [...]

Crooked Fingers' 2011 album Breaks in the Armor was one of the year's most underrated. If you haven't checked it out yet, it comes highly recommended from Earbuddy's Chris Bell. Eric Bachmann and company have released a new video for "Our New Favorite" from that album. Watch it below. Read more »
Brand new video from one of my favorite records from 2011. Can't wait to see them again in Austin next month.

A faixa faz parte do álbum Breaks in the Armor , lançada ano passado. Assista e tente conter o sorriso: ( via )

Kids! Kids are the best. As someone who's about to have his second, I am helpless before a music video that shows kids doing kid things like shuffle-toddling across floors and losing teeth and digging up ancient boxes of shredded, forgotten photos. (Actually, I'm not sure that last one is a kid thing per se.) That's what's going on in this Crooked Fingers clip. Pictureshow Films direct; watch it below. Read More...
Crooked Fingers have mellowed considerably with age, as Eric Bachmann has cooled down from his Archers of Loaf days. The ... Read the full article at http://www.prefixmag.com/media /crooked-fingers/our-new-favor ite-video/61695/

Autumn de Wilde Ben Gibbard's songwriting is kind of emo/heart-on-sleeve on the best of days, so how could he ratchet up the melancholy quotient now that he's officially Mr. Ex-Zooey Deschanel? By adding strings, of course! To be fair, Death Cab For Cutie's just-announced Spring tour was probably in the works well before news of his break-up was announced, but it seems appropriate that the Death Cab canon will be getting performed with an extra layer of drama thanks to the contributions of San Francisco's Magik*Magik Orchestra , who will be [...]

It finally happened. Winter arrived. Snow fell and we woke up this past Sunday with about three inches of the stuff. I'm glad it didn't arrive earlier, as Friday saw me at KSVR for a four hour stint of music. The first two hours flirted with folk music and the latter half was full-on garage rock, garage pop and psychedelic pop. Much of the 10 to midnight show came courtesy Finest Kiss , who posted some great 2011 lists. Taking [...]
