Drugg are a two-piece electronic indie act from Bow in London, with Tom Hanley providing the sounds and vocals and Max Whatley on drums. Their first EP, "Shackled", is piece of cold and dark electronic music that tries to be all-encompassing; it wants to be atmospheric, intense and effective, but it just doesn’t come off, and I can’t really engage with it. There are better musicians out there that have crafted beautifully atmospheric examples of electronica (see Air, Vangelis, 808 State). Read more..

Crooks are a top-shelf roots quartet that's been kicking up some dust around their hometown of Austin, TX for a couple years, and if their Lonesome, Rowdy and Restless EP is any indication, these boys might want to look into losing their day jobs. Sure, anyone can buy and acoustic guitar and flannel shirt and fly the roots flag, but Crooks do all the little things right. Sure is a little rough hewn in spots, but the final product is nothing short of authentic. With an upcoming Daytrotter session and SXSW [...]

English music magazine NME wrote about The Crookes from Sheffield: 'A band this good are unlikely to remain obscure for long.' They're seen as a cross between Arctic Monkeys, Housemartins & The Smiths. And they made an excellent Christmas EP. The Crookes - It's Just Not Christmas Without You

Taking their name from an artsy, bohemian suburb of Sheffield, where the members met while studying English Literature at University, the Crookes have, over the past couple of years, been frantically knocking out the kind of winsome, indie pop songs that bring to mind the Smiths or pre-‘Up the Bracket’ Libertines . Serving as a cut-off point, bringing together a collection of the songs written while the band were still defining their sound and feeling their way, ‘Dreams of Another Day’ gives the band an opportunity to tie off [...]

The Crookes [ MySpace ] are the sort of band you wished you'd heard about earlier. You may not like them yet, but you will soon! They are four fellows from Sheffield, but I say this loosely because none of them was actually born in the town. They all studied English Literature there but have since dropped their books for tour busses as they try to make big in the music game. Their sound is definitely a pop one with oozes of romantic charm. They describe their sound as "superficially happy pop that gets sadder the deeper you [...]
