Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young: Almost Cut My Hair [ purchase ] Yes, that's me up there, in 2002: prep school teacher, daddy, and long haired hippie freak. Though I've never identified as terribly liberal or hippie-ish, I managed to avoid cutting my hair from the middle of high school; by the time I turned thirty, I could sit on it. The stories that this brought about are numerous, and include multiple old ladies stroking my head without asking first, a long-standing reputation as one [...]

It is amazing what you can find simply by using Google – and how quickly things can get confusing. For example, while trying to find the Newcastle indie rock band Shields , who I recently saw open for Dispatch , I encountered many other bands of the same name. This was including but not limited to a “medieval power rock troupe”, a duo on a reality show, and a folk band I believe to be from the 70’s. However, I am glad I persisted in my quest because Shields – [...]

Though Norah Jones built her reputation with a string of soccer-mom friendly albums, the singer-songwriter doesn't want you to think that she's not hip. In fact, it seems that she wants to hammer that point home by teaming up with "IT" producer Brain Burton, aka Danger Mouse, for her latest studio album Little Broken Hearts , which hits stores on May 1 via her longtime label Blue Note Records. While Jones and Burton originally began working together on the record back in 2009, it wasn't until the duo reconvened last summer, when Jones [...]

Sorry I'm so late in getting this guy up today, I had to travel back to school yesterday and it got all caught up in the hullabaloo, then today was my first day back in class and what not, so that didn't leave much time for you, dear listeners. So hopefully you managed to have a depressing enough day without my help. (Also, I'm running out of songs from my initial list that I've been selecting these playlists from, so if any of you listening at home have a suggestion for future Melancholy Mondays, you can shoot me [...]
For audiophiles, this is sure to satisfy your need for cleanliness. But for the rest of us, this is headphone heaven, and a great excuse to dust off the old bong.

Neil Young's Ohio, made famous by Crosby Stills Nash & Young, is a protest song referencing the horrible events at Kent State University on May 4th, 1970 that left four dead and nine injured. Recorded just three weeks after the fact, it was pressed to single and rushed to radio stations with the B-Side Find The Cost of Freedom. The Contestants: Artist : Anders Osborne & Big Chief Monk Boudreaux Album : Bury the Hatchet [...]
