(a body preserved through the amazing process of plastination ) let's start with a special song just for tomatorama - 'You Need Your Head' by Todd Rundgren from the wonderfully bizarre 'A Wizard, A True Star' You don't need your feet 'cause you know you got wheels You don't need your hands 'cause you know how it feels You don't need your eyes 'cause you [...]
What Do You Do In San Francisco: Jenna Bush Tribute Edition by Danish Aziz This week's awesomeness makes up for last week's audio weakness and then some. Oh yeah, it's supposed to get up to 93 degrees on Friday. Oh yeah, and it's Bay to Breakers this weekend. MUXTAPE Tuesday, May 13 Kate Nash @ The Fillmore. The Streets meets [...]

The hand-wringing...the tears...the sleepless nights--all to conjure up this list o' TVD's Top Ten Crowded House Tunes in preparation for tonight's 9:30 show. And if anyone REALLY cares, this wasn't all that easy -- so many great songs, so small a list. And they're more of the darker variety (TVD = miserable f'er.) and not ONE from 'Woodface.' Go figure. So, we'll count them down all Casey Casem Top 40-like...cue jingle! (Towels at the ready...) 10. I Feel Possessed (Mp3) ...we are one person not two of a [...]

It is a packed weekend of shows again. Here are some of the highlights: Friday 80s superstars Crowded House are back. How this works without one of the Finn brothers, I don't know, but I am sure those radio hits you remember will be on the set list. See them at the 9:30 Club in DC. David Ford is back in town doing an XPN Free at Noon at the World Cafe Philly. [...]

It's just not lived in enough I think to have its tracks considered for tomorrow's Crowded House Top Ten. It's a fine return to form and I'm sure after a few more bottles of wine and some late night spins it'll walk its way into the favourites lane. But for now, it's merely a wonderful and welcome return. And as tomorrow's list will reveal, Finn & Co. aren't that sunny and breezy little outfit that much of the first LP and 'Woodface' lead one to believe...there's some serious dark undercurrents at work texturally, sonically, and lyrically--and after the death of [...]

In advance of Crowded House's sold out show at the 9:30 Friday night, we're going to get a bit Finn-centric here at TVD for the balance of the week. See, the thing is, next to Sir Paul, Neil's the Best Living Songwriter we've got. So nope, it's not Bob Dylan, Brian Wilson, Paul Weller, Paul Westerburg, Elton John, Elvis Costello or Colin Melloy. It's Neil. And the guy can kinda' sing too. These tracks from Crowded House's 2000 rarities and b-sides collection 'Afterglow'-- songs deemed not album-worthy (?)--are added highlights to what arrives Friday: TVD's List of [...]
I'm mostly over the flu now. Still feels like a mucus-heavy slug is trying to ooze its way out of my nasal cavity (how's that for a mental picture?) but other than that I'm feeling quite lovely - and when I'm not that's why I have Sudafed and Nyquil. This past weekend I traveled to the Mad Max Wasteland that is Detroit to see The Foo Fighters. I've seen the Foos once before and while they impressed me then they totally floored my ass this time. Dave Grohl's stage presence and commitment to entertaining his audience is unlike [...]
H ere is another "It Came From The Nineties" post. It seems like so long ago, doesn't it? It was years and years before my wife would have ever probably considered putting on a Shrek puppet show and imitating Eddie Murphy's Donkey voice (like she is doing right now). Are you looking for any of the first four installments? You can find them here , here , here , and here . MP3 | Deep Blue Something - Breakfast At Tiffany's [...]
Johnny Marr: Beyond the Smiths Part 9: 2005-2007 "The six things I guarantee I'll never do are... 1.) Allow my music to be involved with advertising McDonald's or any meat product. 2.) Wear winklepicker shoes. 3.) Wear a tie onstage. [...]

"They just kicked out another band member? Is there anybody left?" "What in the name of all that is good would possess him to move in with Courtney Love?" "Is THAT really metallica?!" "So they are finally releasing Chinese Democracy.... again?" These questions say a lot about recent years, as well as this one, in music. We could not think about one to sum it up as it was an amazing year, musically speaking, from numerous points of view despite the fact that reunions are definitely in the center [...]

#6 - Crowded House - Nobody Wants To From: Time on Earth Label: Capitol Released: July 10, 2007 Buy it: Here . Right, so... a proper Crowded House reunion or Neil Finn's 3rd solo album? Somewhere in between, it would seem, as Neil employed the surviving Crowdies on a few of the album tracks, but not all of them -- it's more of a proper [...]

01 - Crowded House - Time On Earth While not being in the 'Paul-Hester's-not-around-anym ore-so-how-dare-they-call-it- Crowded House ' camp, I can see why there were doubts as to whether the reformed House could live up to previous highs (this is, don't forget, essentially the follow-up to 1993's masterpiece Together Alone). So does it live up to the legacy? Well, it sounds exactly like the record Neil Finn was always likely to make at this point in time, whether released under his own name or not. Stylistically it's [...]

The summer has been incredibly kind to Hidden Track. Both Ace and I have seen a ton of good shows, and we've both come across some great music that we've shared with our readers. Before the season officially ends, we're gonna point out the tracks that helped us beat the heat. This week's B List pays tribute to 10 songs that really stood out to us this summer... 10. On July 13th Ace previewed two exclusive, unfinished tracks from A Big Yes and a small no [...]

Today is Labor Day, an annual holiday in honor of organized labor, but minus the creeping specter of socialism associated with May Day. Like the movement it commemorates, Labor Day has long since gotten away from its original purpose. Cut loose from its class struggle roots, it now serves as the demarcation line marking the spiritual end of the summer. Sure, the scientists would have us believe that the season doesn't official end until the autumnal equinox on September 23, but scientists also brought us slammable yogurt and hydrogen bombs, and so should not be trusted. Astronomical calendars [...]
