It's taken an entire year and thousands of albums to get here, but I've finally managed to compile the best records of 2012 and put them in an easy-to-reference list. The top 5 all had perfect scores, so choosing this year's best was harder than usual. In the end, there can only be 12 this year and moreover, one that surpasses all. As always, I want to personally congratulate all the artists mentioned here today and thank you for your tremendous talent and dedication to your craft– You guys are the best of the best and it was a pleasure [...]

Despite the often warranted derision surrounding the “chillwave” gold rush of 2k8-10, there are still plenty of artists making good downtempo electronic music. Look past the fuzzy glo-fi feeding frenzy and the delay effect-abusing dilettantes and you’ll find gems like Crozet . John Helmuth started Crozet as a laptop music project during his senior year of college at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He was later joined by friend Sean Lee, who helped fill out the songs with guitar riffs and other tweaks. Crozet’s tracks, composed mostly on Casio keyboards and a Wurlitzer electric piano, [...]

From the time I heard Nooka and Synthemesc 's collaboration 2 months ago, I knew something special was happening. While I obviously have reviewed a number of their records and interviewed a handful of their artists, Synthemesc is still a label in development... incidentally, any good label will continue to change as time goes by and in turn, influence others during that time. When I first decided to make a couple of fan videos, I really hadn't planned on going much further than 2. However once I got going, I knew we had to make one for [...]
In case you're not a fan of our Facebook or Twitter pages, you probably don't know what we've been doing lately. Well, we've been busily making music videos every week. "But Violent Success", you say,"I've seen plenty of videos and none of them were anything special." Well sir or madame, you may have been correct up until today, but what we've been doing IS special. You see, Synth Records (friend of the site) and their artists decided to partner with Nooka and produce a compilation of 12 original tracks that best represent themselves [...]
True fans of music spend countless hours searching for that next great song, album or artist, whether it be online or in a local record shop. The beautiful thing about music in today’s age is that technology has created an infinite supply of great music that is available to us at the click of a mouse. How perfect is that? We can discover a brand new artist on the opposite side of the globe in seconds without a radio or a music television channel. It only makes sense that a website so dedicated to this gorgeous universe of music would [...]

Crozet - Neon Crozet - On The Line Released waaay back in January, and pimped by like-minded synth-throwback aficionado Teeel (on his very own Synthemesc label), the lovely We'll Be Gone By Then full length - courtesy of sequencer-pop duo Crozet - hits all of those nostalgic lil' nooks and crannies with its electronically driven melodies, John Hughes soundtrack-styled vocals, and '80s-esque ballad beats. We'll Be Gone By Then [...]
Philadelphia has historically been a strong scene for electronic music innovation, from Diplo and Data Garden in the past decade, Josh Wink and King Britt in the 90s, Crash Course in Science in the 80s...the list is broad and reaches far back. But equally exciting, beyond the DJing / remixing / production realm, is today’s ... Continue reading

New Jersey is known for a few things... mostly that it's New York's not-as-cool neighbor. But more recently, New Jersey synth pop artists have been emerging from their home studios and slowly changing the perception that it's only filled with ridiculous guidos and Cake Bosses . One of these more notable artists is Crozet with their exceptional programming, slick keyboards/synths and an uncanny talent for writing some pretty memorable and singable melodies. After listening to We'll Be Gone By Then for the first time and admiring the brilliant way [...]
Versatile South Jersey indie rocker Tom Ryan busies himself as a player in so many other projects (three, at last count—Young Statues, It's a King Thing, The Atomic Square), that it's always a treat when he gets to indulge his own creative whims. Endor Endor is the post-rock outfit Ryan unveiled last December, and it ... Continue reading

Crozet: We'll Be Gone By Then - Crozet are a synth pop duo from New Jersey. Channeling influences from electronic masters like M83 , Crozet craft pop songs in a sometimes lo-fi vain, but maintain an upbeat tone throughout their debut with masterful skill. Synth pop has taken a number of different forms over the years, but few of those artists actually have the crossover appeal that Crozet has. This is primarily because their vocals, along with the ambitious programming, etc., are quite exceptional, but I'll get into that later... [...]
