So I'm writing this four months to the day the day since the last one of these Pop Punk Junk entries was posted. Yes, all the links to the previous 13 are still live and they all still fucking rule. Check 'em out. As for this one, It's got bands I'm sure you know and love and others from bands like Division that don't exist anymore but that you oughta know. Then there's Weston... one of my all time faves. Hell yeah... MP3 Mr. T Experience - My Stupid Life [...]

Cruiserweight is a band that has been around longer than I can remember, but we always make a point to see them when they play a show in town. Make your way to Red 7 on Saturday night for one of these shows and enjoy this veteran Austin outfit. Openers are The Story Changes , Markov , and No Champions . Tickets are being sold only at the door and show starts at 9pm. Download: Cruiserweight - Balboa [MP3]

Here at YuppiePunk World HQ, we get a lot of inquiries from publicists, labels and bands themselves looking for a little coverage. And who can blame them? After all, we're an obscure, self-righteous, poorly-designed, infrequently-posting pop culture site with terrible taste in music. In other words, every young band's dream! And since we simply don't have the (wo)manpower to write about every interesting thing we hear here, here's a sampling of some of the goodies to have passed through our inbox of late. Butch Walker | "Sycamore" (Original Signal) Avril songwriter, "Rockstar: [...]
Cruiserweight are a girl-fronted rock band from Austin, Texas. Their press packet tells you that they've been named "Austin's Best Punk Band" for four straight years. Now, not only is Austin not known for its punk-scene, Cruiserweight isn't really a punk band. In analogy form, this would be like being named the best philosopher in Mobile, Alabama and then realizing that you were actually studying

Is Cruiserweight a punk band? Some seem to think so. Regardless of how you classify the band, the correct answer is how I classify them: Kind of an alt-rock/90s sound, a la Elastica or Weezer. Powerful pop, fronted by Stella Maxwell, a chick with a huge, delicious voice. Naming a female-led band after a boxing weight class runs the risk of comparisons to stupid pop grrls like Avril Lavigne, but Cruiserweight, including Stella's brothers, Urny and Yogi, have been in the business for a decade, and with that time have the chops and [...]

BIG BOLD LETTERS , Cruiserweight 's long awaited new album arrives October 7th on Doghouse Records and we couldn't be happier! One of their new tracks, Balboa, was released recently on Cruiserweight Rocks the Moon along with a cover of American Girl, but will also be on the new BBL full length now available for pre-order at iTunes . We managed to catch up to Cruiserweight in their hometown of Austin, TX in March and it was one of the most frenetic shows of the SXSW festival this year, right up there with Firewater [...]
INTERVIEW WITH FIGHT BITE Having just tried out Fight Bite's excellent debut LP Emerald Eyes , we here at Cannibal Cheerleader wondered what the duo of Jeff and Leanne, the wunderkinds behind the band, thought of their creation. So we recently conducted an interview with the group, part of which is printed below: CC: What is Fight Bite all about? Why this type of music? How did Fight Bite come to be and what other bands have you each been in? [...]

All week long I've been anxiously on the lookout for the magic moment when the SXSW Music and Media Conference posts its list of artist bios and mp3s for this year's festival, which runs in Austin, Texas, from March 11-16. I've just spent seven hours poring over the list and compiled my own list of the 286 artists I liked best. Some of them don't really fit here, but I've got a hunch you're going

Starting out, I was based in the live music capital of the world, Austin, Texas. There is a band worth checking out every night, from the big names playing Emo's or Stubb's to the locals cutting their teeth at The Parish or Mohawk. Here are some the best that I had to pleasure to notice. Most people know Spoon and Voxtrot . They are the darlings of the Austin indie scene. Instrumental sensations Explosions in the Sky are opening for Smashing Pumpkins. Okkervil River [...]

The response to last week's Big Bloc 1 posting of selected mp3s from SXSW 2006 was vast, although largely invisible but to the practiced eye. Here's a list I put together of three dozen songs I like from SXSW 2005 . Again, if you find yourself wanting more, click on the two SXSW's above. As I did for Big Bloc 1, I am retaining original spelling, deleting "mp3" so as to make it easier to browse the list, and [...]

Okay, I'm a bit skitterish about this one, so please bear with me. Back in early December, I went group-by-group, song-by-song through a long list of artists I found at the 2006 South-by-Southwest festival website . I sampled every song I didn't already know and prepared my own list of the ones I liked best, old friends and new. For various reasons totally uninteresting even to myself I've just never posted a big bloc of the songs, some of which are by some of my favorite current artists. Soooooo, I'm simply [...]

During the next week, Water All Around will be sitting idle â€" as will I (though in my case it will involve well-reclined pool chair). So as I’m off imbibing an alarming number of umbrella-topped fruity drinks with sword-speared cherries, you can dream of your next holiday with these: [MP3] Elvis Costello â€" The Beat [MP3] Cruiserweight â€" Vacation/Vacate [MP3] Dead Kennedys â€" Holiday in Cambodia [MP3] Fountains of Wayne â€" Trains and Boats [...]

Are you hip to the sweet sounds of Toledo, Ohio's Doghouse Records ? You should be, as they've been quietly releasing some of the underground's best rock records for the past 15 years, and many of their artists have gone on to find major indie success. The Get Up Kids started on the label, as did Hot Water Music . All-American Rejects were the first band of theirs to sign to the majors, a feat recently duplicated by Say Anything , who have just had their Doghouse debut re-issued [...]
