( Meek is Murder ) ( Crusades ) On Saturday I stopped by Krakenfest (at the Kraken on Hwy. 54 west of Carrboro) for a couple of hours, and got to see Crusades from Wilmington (which included Jason Shi from ASG) and Meek is Murder from Brooklyn. Here are a few photos [...]
No cheese, no anthems, just relentless, hard bass music; this is what you can expect from Excision's new Destroid album The Invasion . This side project is a live band that involves his friends Downlink and KJ Sawka , and after hearing this beastly LP, we can't wait to see them perform live! The Invasion starts off with a few brilliant tracks co-produced with Spaces Laces, the first of which is inaugural single Raise Your Fist . [...]

I'm genuinely looking forward to hearing Joe Sample perform at White Recital Hall tonight. As a member of the Crusaders and as a solo artist, Sample played a pivotal role in putting the "smooth" into jazz. Sample has a lot to answer for. And what of it? Sample may have perfected the smooth jazz template, but he shouldn't be held responsible for the sins of his musical descendants. Even his funk-pop hits like the Crusaders' "Street Life" were indelibly smooove. Besides, context [...]

French Club "Sh*t Talk" French Club is a chaotic mix of rock, punk, ska with a melodic tilt that you don't hear everyday. The title track is a fast paced rant that leads to the chorus "I don't know what you're asking for?" with a lively horn melody. The somber "October" follows this up with a duel vocal male-female lead followed by a harmonized wail. It goes full DIY punk on "In The Basement" with a spirited bass lead. This style is continued on "Jamaica" and "Rattle On" featuring the talented Lily Zwaan's vocals. [...]

Now every aspiring rock band needs to have a sharp image and have somewhere to sell their music and merchandise. Well they need look no further than Diamond and Anchor Clothing Company who are an independent clothing label which rose like a phoenix from the flames of Ribcage Clothing. [...]
Aggressive dubstep producers Excision and Downlink have joined forces with drummer KJ Sawka to form the group DESTROID. Both producers are known for their hard-hitting industrial sounds and KJ Sawka- former drummer of the electronic rock band Pendulum- adds the live instrumental element. The group has been in the works since 2009 and after Excision 's sold out X Tour this year, the trio decided to unveil their new dubstep powers. This new experiment delivers a custom sound with brutal bass and their latest creation is "Crusaders." Starting out with rushing guitar chords, the trio [...]
OK bass fans here is the third installment from dubstep super group Destroid. The out-of-this-world trio of Excision, Downlink, and KJ Sawka. have gone beyond the decks with pounding new tunes. When dubstep hit the US mainstream Djs became a dime a dozen, these leaders of bass created their own army of womp. With young ravers across the nation fiending for the drop these guys have teamed up to give it to them. Going on stage these three incorporate live drums and more to revolutionize the new-age rock star. Just getting started, their first tracks have been a [...]

Melbourne nu-disco artist KNIGHTLIFE came to prominence with his festival hit ‘Crusader’. A few more tracks, some EPs and a boat load of touring ensued, and now with a debut LP right on the horizon we snatched the guy up for a little Q&A. Are you excited about releasing your debut album next year? How long have you been working on it for? Yeah I am very excited. I’ve been saying ‘the next thing I’ll do is an album’ for a while [...]

The day had finally come on September 15th. The long awaited inaugural edition of Arboretum Music + Arts Festival which took place at the HI Ottawa Hostel and Arts Court/Club Saw . There was alot to see, hear, do and eat at this festival. It was a nice day to enjoy. Having missed out Catriona Sturton 's set at around 10:30am. I got there when Jenny Omnichord was starting her set. She [...]

Arboretum Music + Arts Festival won't happen until September 15, 2012. One of the local acts participating in this year's event is indie garage-pop rock's The Steve Adamyk Band . So I got to ask Steve Adamyk on the upcoming event. Check out on what he has to say! How excited is the band to be playing at the inaugural Arboretum Festival? We are extremely excited. Aside from being honored just to be [...]
Crusades have launched a stream of their new two track EP, Parables . It was released in France last month and is set to be issued in North America on It's Alive Records soon.
Ottawa's Crusades have announced an October trip to Europe. They will follow the tour with an appearance at The Fest in Gainesville, FL. They released a new 7-inch called Parables this year on France's Destructure Records and a US release on It's Alive Records should follow later this fall. The record follows 2011's The Sun Is Down and The Night is Riding In .
Ottawa's most (and only?) beloved Satanic-leaning pop-punks, Crusades , will soon be releasing their new 7-inch dubbed Parables , first reported here . While a European release is already available for pre-order through Destructure Records , the band's North American label It's Alive Records tells us a release on this side of the Atlantic will be happening in the fall, probably in September or October. The band last released The Sun Is Down and The Night is Riding In [...]
So, about a month back, I got asked to curate a gig on the 23rd of June for Temple Works Leeds supporting the Sex Pistols / Jamie Reid exhibition at Temple Works. Why not. Sounds like fun. Let's get some ace hardcore and punk bands and have a good time. There's football and 3 other gig clashes going on, but lets just try and make it work. So, seeing that my alliances always lie with Glasgow for some reason, I got Crusades down to headline, together with other bands like Feral Youth from Nottingham, Leeds bands The Afternoon Gentlemen, Endless [...]
