erinnert sei zunächst an die feinen neuen tunes auf hardly art , da hatte sich zuletzt einiges angesammelt, erst einmal hätten wir da eine band, die im klienicum längst einen angestammten platz hat, "tidelands" heißt die aktuelle scheibe und begeistert mit folkrockigen stampfern: the moondoggies - it's a shame, it's a pity the moondoggies - fly mama fly (from: "you'll find no answers here" ep, 2010) auf katy goodmans single hatte ich bereits aufmerksam gemacht, im gewand von hardly art macht sich [...]

Spent a couple of hours last night reducing the size of the mailbox from 3,922 to 3,697 mails. Summed up you can say I spent the time on reading, deleting, downloading, listening, deleting again (most of the time) and cheering (not that often). Here's what I have to show for my efforts: + Baby Scream – Nicole + The Grand Opening - Be Steady + Drew Seeley [...]
In the crazy ass world known as the music industry, the week immediately following CMJ is basically the most overwhelming five days of any blogger's life. That's because all the publicists who stepped away from the office to party work at CMJ are now back in said office, catching up on their work and consequently sending 1,732 emails. The goods new for you guys, of course, is that all these emails mean tons of new mp3s to include in this week's Friday mixtape. So please enjoy this haul of free music. We're going to go sleep. Greg and I were discussing the Beach Fossils album the other night, and I got to thinking about luminous, arpeggio-driven guitar records. Prettier and more artful than the B. Fossil's workmanlike debut, Crushed Stars' 2008 release Gossamer Days offers the simple pleasures of aesthetic richness; with a new album by the band on the way, it's well worth revisiting. Women / photo by David Greenwald Apologies for the tardiness, folks, but with some distance from the - let's just go ahead and say it - shitty trends that characterized 2008, I feel pretty good about the year. It didn't offer a lot of new classics to my ears, but it was a fantastic time for indie-folk (excluding Bon Iver: Shitty!) and new artists, or at least those who were fresh to me - I became a Hold Steady and Mountain Goats convert, and the debuts of Fleet Foxes, Women and White Hinterland, among others, have [...]
![Crushed Stars: Self-Navigation [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1516933_lg.jpg)
Written by Fense OK, so this album originally came out in 2001, making this a reissue. The official name extends beyond Self-Navigation to include a hidden (Remastered/Expanded) . Crushed Stars frontman Tod Gautreau even re-recorded some of the vocals - reasoning that the first time around the group had only time for a few takes. Thus, what's heard now is the same album, minus the first issue's "shortcomings", as Gautreau puts its. Now, I haven't heard that first pressing, but I [...]
Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin / photo by David Greenwald My Best of 2008 playlist is a mile long but these are the songs that boggle my mind and trigger my salivary glands. Honorable Mention: the entire Weezer album. Can somebody point me in the direction of some decent rap singles? 0. The Hold Steady - "Constructive Summer" Like the Zeroeth Law of Robotics, the Hold Steady supercede every existing band. Thank God this leaked early enough for everybody to build something this summer. The only song of 2008 I've [...]

Sometimes I like to just stare at the ceiling. Seriously, I do. I'm not sure why, but I do. When one of these moods hits me I just feel more in tune with my surroundings - it's like I can feel the earth rotating beneath my feet. I know, I know - put down the pipe, man. Alright, done and done. Back to my point - Crushed Stars is pretty much the best thing to listen [...]

Crushed Stars is a one-man band, created and executed by Todd Gautreau. To draw a reference to the name, Gautreau's music can very much be likened to a dark star-scattered sky; beautiful, melancholic and awe-inspiring. Hm, now I'm even more regretful that I missed the lunar eclipse tonight. His most recent album, "Gossamer Days" is Gautreau's third release as Crushed Stars. He's previously made music under the names of Sonogram and Tear Ceremony, but it looks like it's his latest alter-ego that will put Gautreau firmly on the map. Filled with lush, dreamy songs, [...]

Gossamer Days , the latest from the Dallas-based band Crushed Stars , is easily one of my favorite albums of the young new year. Slow and sad in ways that recall more than a few of my other favorite albums (Morning Recordings' Music For Places , Yo La Tengo's And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out ), it's an introspective soon-to-be classic that's perfect for these long winter nights. I gave Crushed Stars guru Todd Gautreau a ring over the weekend to talk about getting MTV airplay, self-releasing in the digital age and Scottish [...]

This week we're treated to a deluge of new releases; so many, in fact, that I don't even know where to begin. I've yet to listen to many of these, which currently sit on my overflowing stack of promo discs waiting to be heard. A few that I can recommend right now include the sophomore effort Some Racing, Some Stopping from Headlights , Throw Me the Statue's Moonbeams and The Raveonettes' Lust Lust Lust . I just received the new Mountain Goats album, so [...]

Dina Martina's " The Presidents Day Song " (courtesy of Up Records) - perhaps the only tune penned for the holiday While Presidents Day seems but a holiday for the lucky - a day off for federal and state employees and a postal inconvenience for the rest of us - it has become a day significant to retailers trying to punch up the post-holiday consumer slump by offering deep discounts on cars, furniture, and other big ticket items while donning the powered wigs and chinstrap beards of our former leaders. Hardly a milestone as [...]

I just finished listening to the new Crushed Stars album, "Gossamer Days", for the third time today...and I feel dazed & light-headed. Wow. My only regret is that it's not 3am and I'm not lying on my roof staring at the sky. This is one of the most lush and expansively beautiful albums I've ever had the pleasure of day-dreaming to. I'm almost at a loss for words, or maybe I just can't think of words that are as beautiful as the music I want to describe them with. The press release describes Todd Gautreau, the man behind the music, [...]

Download: Crushed Stars -- "Spies" Crushed Stars is placid, patient, pop sophistication. These songs are meticulously arranged and beautifully performed, falling in line with such artists as David Sylvian, Red House Painters, and even Burt Bacharach. This is hazy, starry late-night music that forgoes aggression and attack for uncommon beauty. Todd Gautreau, the man behind the music, is a powerful songwriter and one of the best dreampop craftsmen around.
