We were fortunate enough to hear Crystal Antlers play "Dead Horses" at funfunfunfest and our very own shindig at RGRS last October, a great bunch of people they are . I knew when I heard "Dead Horses" it would translate well to recording and Im sure its magical on vinyl, if youd like to contribute to the cause, the band is self-releasing a 7-inch with this song and "Little Sister" through their website . The only band at CMJ '09 I actually went back for second helpings of last year during the festival was Long Beach's Crystal Antlers . The first reason is because live, they absolutely rock. Like sweaty, throw yourself around rock. The second reason is because I dig their particular brand of noisy organ-led psychedelia . Good to hear then, that the band have two new tunes available, one 'Dead Horse' which pretty much follows the above vein and another 'Little Sister' which is of gentler persuasion but still boogie-woogie awesome. The 2010 South By Southwest Festival schedule was posted this week and it's huge! Crystal Antlers have lined-up dates for a forthcoming UK tour. The band are set to kick off the jaunt on April 26 in London and will play dates in Manchester, Glasgow, and Leeds, among several others. When I compiled my original Best Of 2008 list last December, it was a snow day. The sky dropped about a foot, maybe a foot and a half of fluffy white stuff and we lowly sub-compact drivers could go nowhere. Between ranking albums and locating album art, I took a stroll around town with my camera. The above image comes from that trek.
