Not enough time has passed to call these songs throw backs, but the landscape of the EDM (Electronic Dance Music) world has changed significantly since their creation. Considering my emersion into this world was relatively recent, 2006, I find myself wondering about the history of electronic music, recent and long past. The explosion of dubstep around 2009 really intensified my love for EDM. Rusko's Jahova was the first wobble to grace my ears. Broken records don't repeat as much as Jahova did. Dubstep led me to Drum & Bass, even though the latter came first. Nu-disco and Electro Funk have [...]

Noise rock band Health is a four piece consisting of Benjamin Jared Miller, Jake Duzsik, John Famiglietti and Jupiter Keyes. They have released four LPs so far: Health (2007), Disco (2008), Get Color (2009) and Health::Disco2 (2010). Though the band initially became popular playing multiple free concerts around LA and other US cities, it was their 2007 collaboration with Crystal Castles that gave them international exposure. Crystal Castles' rework of Health's track "Crimewave"charted at position nine in the UK indie singles chart and became a [...]

Remixes of remixes should seem like an insult, as if the original artist didn't do an excellent job the first time. But the truth of the matter is, is that it's up to each artist's interpretation, and in the case of Crystal Castle's remix of HEALTH's "Crimewave," each remix of a remix of a remix keeps bring the delicious vibes back even stronger. This time around, it's LAZRtag who manages to pull the strengths of Crystal Castle's remix and makes it into a slightly more dancey and [...]

Click image to download full album Song: Crystal Castles - Untrust Us "Crystal Castles - Untrust Us" What's so good? A few weeks ago I saw the most insane paraskiing video that featured the backing track of "Untrust Us" by Crystal Castles. Since then, I have not been able to get this song out of my head. Crystal Castles have bumped into a number of Copyright controversies in the past, but one thing stands true: they create awesome [...]
I totally forgot about Crystal Castles for a pretty long time until today when I saw this video. It brings back great memories of 2009 Lollapalooza pretty much right up front fighting for my life in the rain. I like the old school feel of the video, and Ethan Kath (at least I'm assuming it's Ethan Kath) looks especially creepy on the drums in this one. The fire is pretty representative as well. Gonna give their latest album another spin today methinks. Crystal Castles vs. HEALTH - Crimewave (LAZRtag Remix) [...]

HARD Summer was set up to be the biggest dance concert of the year. The lineup was one of the deepest and most impressive lineups I've ever seen for a one day festival. HARD mainstays like Crookers, Crystal Castles, and Bloody Beetroots were to play into the early morning. And I was extra hyped to see Electronic legends Underworld for the first time. But the concert was SHUT DOWN! It was a fucking fiasco. When they stopped letting people onto the floor of the Main Stage thats when all hell broke loose. They also closed down the Underground [...]

All the way from L.A. CONFETTI brings LAZRtag to Winnipeg. The producing / remixing / djing pair have been heating up dancefloors for a minute already and with their remix of "Crimewave" hitting the HYPE MACHINE 's Zeitgeist list for 2008 the duo have created a demand for everything they do. I was lucky enough to see their gear rider for the show. Vinh and Erik embrace the future of djing [...]
Our mission was to make the crowd dance, rambunctious enough for the house to shake, and contained enough so the cops never came. The latter came true, but the dancing never occurred. All the effort that it took, setting up the dance floor, organizing a playlist, pretending to be cool DJs, in the end seemed tedious. So in this blog, I'm here to highlight some of the amazing tracks we discovered which were never really heard that night that I have pasted for you to enjoy. Crystal Castles vs. Health - "Crimewave" [...]

this song is almost two years old. and it sounds like it should have come out in 2015. too futuristic . my cousin yemsquad put me on crystal castles when i hit atlanta during a phenomenal easter break last year. they are heavily inspired by first-generation video games, as you can probably tell once this song starts, but it doesn't get old. to me, at least. [log on to DCtoBC.com to jam it] i'm about to put out a mix with some different stuff to showcase everything other than rap that i've been [...]

This last week has been busy, but a lot of fun. I had a solid gig on Thursday, and I made some serious headway on my latest mixtape, did some serious backend work and planning for the site, I got out to a couple clubs and saw DJ Medley and AutoErotique, and firmed up my plans to hit NYC next week. Among other things there, I am looking forward to getting a couple new pieces of hardware while I'm down, and getting beers with The American Dream Team. I've heard some great stuff this week, but [...]
Wow, I'm hungover again. I got this song from Titan and fuck, if I'd heard this stuff on the dancefloor I would most def have been crunkin' it. But heck, we did it anyway to some coverband called TrrTrrTrr, quite funny. Titan makes dancy disco (What else is disco?) house, it's a bit repetetive but yo, if you can stand the heat get outta the fucking kitchen. Like in the sense that you are on a dancefloor and this lovely tunes comes on and just have to keep on going and going, [...]

With most bands and publicists in vacation mode last week and since after two holiday mixtapes , our well of indie Christmas carols and Hanukkah hymns was beginning to run dry, we didn't have much to work with for last week's Friday Mixtape. So we decided to scrap it and return with one this week that would be down right bangin'. Suffice to say, I think we accomplished our mission. Below you'll find a mix of this week's best new singles, covers, and remixes along with a multitude of mp3s from some talented up-and-comers. Enjoy! [...]

Psychedelica might be the new posh thing to emerge in 2009. Only reason why I say that is because of the mass amount of hype surrounding Animal Collective, and the recent 9.6 rating they got on Pitchfork (nobody has scored that high since The Arcade Fire back in 2004). And when a band creates sounds comparable post OK Computer Radiohead, Sebastian Tellier, and Explosions in the Sky sans 20 minute track lengths... you have a good thing going. Chicago outfit Loyal Divide do just that, and they're playing a gig at Subterranean in Wicker Park to [...]

Yessirree, it's Friday again. This means two things - the first is that Gigantic is on, so the weekend has really kicked off and we can let the good times begin. The second is that it's time for another installment of Friday bangers. Yeo! First up is a Crystal Castles track that has been getting a fair caning lately, both the original version and now this remix too. Been really digging Sinden 's recent reworkings. This tune keeps a nice chunk of the orginial in check, but beefs everything up a whack. Super. [...]

Though both of the album's I'm featuring today were released much earlier in the year, I'm just now getting into them and felt it was necessary to post some samplings from them. Tied together by their bumping, insistent collaboration "Crimewave," Crystal Castles and HEALTH are relative newcomers on the electronic music scene, but are already making big waves with their dark, insanely catchy tracks. Crystal Castles quickly worked their way into my head at the start of the semester, when it seemed I would hear their self-titled album playing absolutely everywhere, day or night, at home or out at a [...]
