"Moby Dickless" is off Info Nympho , the upcoming third album from Brooklyn/Philadelphia collective Cuddle Magic. The new album was recorded at Trout Studios in Brooklyn and engineered and mixed by Bryce Goggins (Swans, Akron/Family, Larkin Grimm). It comes out on March 6th. http://www.cuddle-magic.com/

Fresh off the completion of their third album, Info Nympho , members of the indie ensemble Cuddle Magic are on the road for their longest tour yet. Boasting a mercurial line-up of about 10 members from both New York and Philadelphia, the group had a lot of people to cram into the studio when making their latest collection of mellow, folk Americana songs. The close recording space only aided the groups' attempt at making a record completely free of computer-generated editing, so as to come as close as possible to simulating how the band sounds live. The use [...]

Drawing musicians from Boston, New York City, and Philadelphia, the indie-folk ensemble Cuddle Magic crafts a striking balance between earthy and ethereal. Their instruments and song styles are a steadfast riff on American roots music, but they're not above ripping loose on a 10-minute space jam (or performing with a three-foot plastic penguin onstage). Today we present you with "Say When," a (relatively) focused cut from Pictures , the band's recent release on FYO Records. The dozen-strong group kicks off its tour of the northeast U.S. tomorrow night, Oct. 5, at Johnny Brenda's. [...]

For those of you who followed our suggestions and are watching some great new bands at SXSW, we're glad we could help you. But here's the thing: there's a herd of new bands that require your attention. Many of the bands we've featured in the past, didn't have an album, let alone a label deal. But bands like Warpaint, The Soft Pack and others are now hotly tipped in Rolling Stone and the other major music mags. So, here's our humble offering: a smattering of new music that we think will be "the next big thing" [...]

I cringe every time I see this band's name. Cuddle Magic. It's just awful. Having said that though, I really do love this song. I've had some problems keeping girls in the past Somehow I'm certain she's the one that will last She makes no promises, she lays out the deal And still I tell myself this love is for real I should know better I should not let her in... My expectations fuck me over and then My inclination [...]

If you're a fan of large, multi-instrumental bands be sure to check out Cuddle Magic's sophomore album, Picture. It just released yesterday, and includes some great tracks. The ensemble is based out of New York and Philadelphia, and made up of 12 musicians, or more, at any given time (and a 3-foot plastic penguin). Their sound covers a wide range of genres, including folk, world, and avant-pop. The diversity won't be for everyone, but it's always interesting to see how bands craft their music with such a variety of instruments (strings, percussion, vibraphone, clarinet, [...]

photo source Cuddle Magic - "Expectations" The voice like a trombone solo is back. But the thing you should understand is: there are no actual trombones here. There's a salt of drums, a pepper of strings, a little woodwind and whistle and the guitars that do not let you go. But the trombone thing is a different thing. Remember when you did not know the trombone? Remember when you thought the trombone was just the slide-whistle sound of an ice-cream scoop leaving a cone? [...]

Cuddle Magic - "Pillows" . A voice like a trombone solo, which is to say at once mournful and vaguely funny. Like the Magnetic Fields after drinking a bottle of cough syrup, waking up in the orchestra pit. There's jazz in this insofar as there's jazz in all regrets, doubts, wondering (i.e. in the messy emotions), but in its succinctness, in its constancy of feeling, "Pillows" is punk rock. Cuddle Magic - "Paper Mask" . Cuddle Magic hide their convoluted time signatures in laze & softness, in crinkle and sun. "Paper Mask" seems like such a gentle [...]
