Photography by Suckcess Have I told you lately how much I love Our Society , our little music brigade, of sorts? It's not just the Basement Required Listening selections, the beautiful vinyl rips, or just the incredible album suggestions , no, it's way beyond that.... it's their ability to love music in all it's forms, not judge people for what they've connected to, and their desire to have a little place to escape from the generally snarky and douchy internets (and real worlds) and just come find, enjoy, [...]

With all of last month's end-of-year fun still very much in our minds, we decided to take a look back at some of our favorite albums from year's past. You know, before 2007, or when CoS was officially up and running. Thus, we tapped David Buchanan to takle a look at the Top 10 Albums of 1996 in our newest edition of List 'Em Carefully… Somewhere between Whitewater and Deep Blue, Electronic Freedom and welfare reform, the formation of Apocalyptica and the demise of Jawbreaker and Sublime (Bradley Nowell, R.I.P), there was music in 1996. [...]

Who? Thinguma*Jigsaw What? Scary Eerie Splatter Folk Sounds like? You tell me. Scott Walker, the easy listening version? Or the folk of Current 93.. So, I mostly don't have a straightforward plan about which band i'll blog next (i'll just look in my mediaplayer and pick the first one i see that not many people know). So today i'll talk about a band who is recording a new album, though there isn't any date fixed for that. Thinguma*jigsaw is a duo that makes [...]
Like ( ) The Tiger Lillies - Seven Deadly Sins There is so much to consider when you talk about the Tiger Lillies . These people put on a show, and sometimes that takes precedence over the music, I think. These songs seem to be more a method of getting a story told then anything else, and that's okay, but that's not what I'm listening for. Talented musicians? unquestionably. (See original review) The Tiger Lillies - Pride [...]
For three decades now Steven Stapleton has been serving wonderful (and wonderfully) sonic platters which are/were a combination of anything from psychedelia and krautrock to ambient and musique concrete. There is also a heavy non-musical influence in his works, as well, due to Stapleton's strong interest in dadaism and surrealism movements. He is a man [...]
"you know we always honor her birthday." said oj about nicole. yeah. really. cowsarejustfood is one. today. this time last year i dipped my gnarled toes in the water with this testpost. i've been timewasting here for a whole bloody year. so by means of 'celebration' i'm tucking into some red stripe (the indie kids lager beer of choice for some [...]
Current 93 - All The Pretty Little Horses I'm back with you for another trawl through the wonderful and the strange, the quirky and the obscure, the quick and the dead. Today, I'll be talking about why I hate music. I was always a music snob. I was one of those annoying kids who had to be there first with the latest music, and who would drop a band as soon as they got any mainstream success. Over the years, we've been up for a fair amount of scorn [...]

So, a newly mixed version of Current 93 's latest labum, Black Ships Ate the Sky , has been released in December of last year, named the same except for the tense. In case you didn't have any idea they had this album, "Black Ships Ate the Sky" is probably the "lightest" thing Current 93 have ever done. The new version didn't seem to sound THAT very different from the "standard" version to me on large parts (it does sound different, but the Durtro site said [...]

don't act like you didn't miss me. no dilly dallying...here's some new tracks from new or upcoming records you need to buy. Califone - The Orchids - what a criminally underknown (at least in Jax) band. i'm always asking people "do you like Califone?" only to hear "don't know em" or "never heard of em"....why the f not? they're a great band and this is a pretty perfect song off their upcoming album " Roots and Crowns " as always on Thrill Jockey. [...]
I don't think I know or am what it's needed to write about these songs the way it should be done but I can't help it, because even though my spirit is weak, its roots buried and dead in grey concrete...
