( Photo: Daniel Muller ) While Cursive aren't playing any area shows (right now), there is probably one or two people on the inner-web thang that live in one of the cities on Cursive's June tour. Beginning June 20th at The Mill in Iowa City, IA, the band will work their way northward to the 605 Summer Classic in Sioux Falls, SD on the 22nd before wrapping up on the 24th at [...]

This is a special one for us here at Folkadelphia; it’s an honor to present this week’s Folkadelphia Session featuring one of my musical heroes, Tim Kasher. You may know Tim as the frontman for Cursive, the long-running seminal and wildly diverse sounding group, The Good Life, Kasher’s bleary-eyed, solo side project often turned full-band ... Philadelphia punk duo Omar is back. After the band’s “last show ever” in April 2011, Candice and Nick quickly recanted. A tweet in November of 2011 teased, “Don’t unfollow this account just yet.” Shows were scheduled for 2012 and by January of this year, Omar could be seen tweeting variations on the theme “We are ... Cursive's acclaimed fourth album turned ten years old this week. Does it stand the test of time? The Ugly Organ turns ten years old this week and has received plenty of acclaim from...
I'll admit that from time to time I have a tendency to revel in my juvenile tendencies, like punk rock and binge drinking. When I first listened to this new single from Fourth of July both of those things came to mind immediately. As the song kicked off, it had this relaxed vocal delivery, sort of like early Cursive albums. Then the tune jumped off into a much more emphatic circle of fun type track, with gang vocals included; these are the sorts of things I definitely can get into. If you, [...]

Columbia College based record label AEMMP recently released ShowYouSuck’s single last week. And today their here for the next single off their upcoming LP "Cursive" by rising artist Saba. Definitely sounding out to be a great portrayal of the saturated talent Chicago holds. Peep below.
They don't make rock stars like they used to, and that's ok.

You have to tip your hat to musicians who have been around for forever, but continue to release high quality, highly diverse albums even if that means potentially alienating core fans or bucking musical trends. Tim Kasher is a master at biting his thumb at what is considered fashionable or “of-the-moment,” and thank god for ... Continue reading

Win our top 31 albums of 2012 ! Hop Along consists of singer and guitarist Frances Quinlan, drummer Mark Quinlan, and Tyler Long on bass. However, Frances is the one with the magnetic appeal. Her lyrics are afflicted by steadfast pessimism, like on “Diamond Mines” where she playfully chants, “There are some parent’s whose/children long/for divorce”. While the lyrics on Get Disowned are absolute poetry, Frances shifts from gritty yowling to sweet coos in practically every song. But then she admits, [...]
Words, Photos, and Video by Ricky Everyone’s already told you … Austin, TX remains a kickass, music-obsessive city despite it being surrounded by a dirt-filled desert of conservatism. The massive SXSW and Austin City Limits Festivals flood the town with traveling music dorks each year, but a younger, cozier, and (dare I say) FUN festival crept into the scene seven years ago. The Fun Fun Fun Fest! The name says it all … organizers strive for a festival devoid of pricey, overcrowded Coachella or Lollapalooza vibes. Their gift for assembling lineups [...]
Right at the beginning of the new millennium, sudden bursts of musical creativity formed a genre-bending confluence as post-rock, alternative, and indie rock collided together, and a wave of bands sprung forth, each carving out its own unique path as the new century was brightly birthed. New terms such as "post-hardcore", a modern definition of "emo", [...]

What a night it was here in San Francisco at The Regency Ballroom last week. Three bands blew the roof off the building in front of a jam packed, sold out crowd. As you will see, I was a bit camera happy and took several hundred photos that night, all of which I would like to share with you right now. (Just kidding.) But we'll tell a story with the photos. Opening up the evening was a band that I would see and hear for the first time. Girl in a Coma are a [...]

Fun Fun Fun Fest is fast becoming one of MOKB's favorite festivals to attend. Every spring, we make our pilgrimage to SXSW for warmer weather, music, and tacos. Slowly, FFFF has become our fall equivalent to bookend our summers. The festival offers so much entertainment with in a relatively small area at Auditorium Shores and you never feel like you are crowded because of excellent scheduling of the stages and artists by the fine folks at Transmission Entertainment. This boutique style festival is a nice alternative to the large festivals that tend to [...]
