We're sorry for this y'all, but it's unreal how lousy this fucking video is. Seriously. Just prove me wrong if you don't think so. We kinda dare you. This shitty video almost made us give up on Tim Kasher and company . (mp3) Bad Sects (mp3) Bad Sects (Ocelot remix) (mp3) Bad Sects (Crane Style remix) Godspeed!
BY ANDY VIHSTADT B-Side Wins Again Photo by Bill Sitzmann Last year, Omaha's Cursive challenged its fans to remix the single, "Bad Sects," from the Happy Hollow LP. The winning entry earned the flipside on the 12" single, which is finally available this week. Have a listen to the "Bad Sects (A Crude Mechanical Mix)", as well as the runner-ups here . Here's the [...]

Here's the official word: *Cursive regrets to announce the retirement of Clinton Frederick Schnase IV from the band. After years on the road Clint has decided to spend more time at home in Omaha, NE with his happy family of Whippets. Clint has been a lover of Whippets and worked with them for a number of years. He feels it is his spiritual calling, "You can see your future (or whatever) in their eyes." We will miss touring, playing, laughing, crying, driving, flying, walking, talking and drinking with Clint and are making plans to love him forever. We wish [...]

I didn't want to spoil everyone with five songs every week. Two new, two old. That post about Friday Night Lights is still coming, I promise! Kanye West – Good Life (Ft. T-Pain) 50 vs. Kanye blah, blah, blah. I felt it was my blogging duty to post a track from the better of the two albums. Now if only more artists would [...]
Albums Revisited I'm partial to Cursive's earlier material, and their 2000 release Domestica is, in my humble opinion, the pinnacle of the band's output. That's not to say that The Ugly Organ didn't deserve whatever praise it received, and with the risk of sounding generic, I'd probably rate "The Recluse" as my favorite Cursive song. Still, when I'm in the mood for Cursive, I find myself relying on the wonderfully unsettling Domestica . The album is the aural equivalent of [...]
Well, after 278 different rambles and one nasty site suspension I've finally hit the one year mark. I doubt many of you have actually been around for the entire existence of SOTO, but whatever amount of time that you've spent here has been super appreciated. I mean, I may not be much of a numbers kind of guy, but I would be lying if I said I didn't like knowing that a couple hundred of you stop by everyday. Thanks. I tried coming up with something amazing to share with everyone today, but the [...]

This photo has nothing to do with the post. It just happened to be what was on TV when I was making this post; and as Steven Seagal is a badass the music on this post is badass, so let us continue. Last night around 3AM I gave TakeoffZebra a phone call to talk about nonsense. He was letting me know what music he has recently got a hold of. After some talking he asked me, "Have you got the new Chromeo CD yet? Fancy Footwork?" "No?" "It's really good, every track is amazing." Taking his advice I [...]

I hope everyone is as excited as we are for the Siren Festival today. Starting with DJ sets as early as 12 Noon, the Coney Island shindig kicks off with what are sure to be eye-opening performances by Brooklyn boys White Rabbits and "Scotland's Arcade Fire" The Twilight Sad (who sure did kick ass on their Radiohead cover ). Fleshing out the middle are Voxtrot, We Are Scientists, Matt and Kim, Dr. Dog, Black Lips, and more, with round-out performances by MIA, Cursive, and New York [...]
Take a break from Whartscape's geekbeat/zapshock punk and synth sin to enjoy arts and crafts time with the many, many Bmore natives who keep this city Wired. (Note: This week we talk about Wham City but that's just Dolly Parton's nipple as far as the local art/music scene goes, hon.) Jimmy Joe Roche , not really pictured above, creates more trouble than Cheney in Carhartts so we could only include a fraction of his "conversation starters" below - there's much more at Wham City . Here's a sample of some of the multimedia insania that should be on [...]

Take a look below for the official run-down. Siren Festival hits Coney Island (for the final year) on July 21st. Check out our slutty coverage from last year's Siren Fest via this link. MP3s: Matt & Kim - Silver Tiles + Elvis Perkins - While You Were Sleeping + Cursive - Dorothy At Forty + We Are Scientists - What's The Word? + Voxtrot - Trouble

Here's the set schedule for the Siren Festival , on July 21: That's a long day. I'm counting on The Black Lips to give me a second wind to take me through to the Dolls' set. Black Lips - "Stranger" mp3 Voxtrot - "Kid Gloves" mp3 We Are Scientists - "Inaction" mp3 Cursive - "Sucker & Dry" [...]
Cursive Rokk fyrir kröfuharða. Vottar fyrir örlitlu artí-fartí en engu að síður afar áhugaverð hljómsveit. Kemur frá Omaha, Nebraska hvar ég hélt að svona tónlist gæti ekki þrifist. [MP3] Cursive - Dorothy at forty Health Pönkskotið tilraunarokk frá Kaliforníu. Tilvalið til að hefja mánudag á. [MP3] Health - Crimewave The Kissaway Trail Það flottasta við þessa dönsku sveit, fyrir utan glæsilegt og grípandi lagið, er að söngvarinn minnir mig oft ótrúlega á Peter [...]

One of the aching holes in the Rhapsody library appears to have been filled. With the inclusion of Bright Eyes ' latest, Cassadaga , it appears that Conor Oberst's label Saddle Creek Records is now in the fold (or will be.) Currently only Cassadaga and Maria Taylor's Lynn Teeter Flower (both 2007 releases) appear to be available at this time. Album: Bright Eyes - Cassadaga Other artists on [...]
Way before what teens today think of as emo, the term was shorthand for emotional hardcore. It was not a dirty word that referred to the lifestyle that gets so much negative press these days. Originating in the Washington, DC music scene of the mid-1980's, some so-called "first-wave" emo or emocore bands included Rites of Spring, Embrace, and Moss Icon. Then came Fugazi (featuring ex-members of Rites of Spring and Embrace), Jawbox, and so on from there... This is (according to me) a brief history of emo in music only. Yes, it will be incomplete in some [...]
