THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: Thurston Moore w/ San Agustin Wednesday, February 8 Goat Farm - 1200 Foster Street NW in Atlanta 30318 Admission $15 / Purchase Tickets I don't really pay much attention to anything Thurston Moore does outside of his work with Sonic Youth , so this choice isn't based on any great love for him as a solo artist. And, really, nobody needs me to vouch for his talents as an artist, collaborator and performer, do they? I [...]

So January turned out to be an absolute monster month for Atlanta music. I mean, if you had any doubts about the strength and vitality of the local scene heading into 2012, the past 32 days should have gone a long way towards quelling your fears. In addition to some strong releases from established veterans like 4-IZE and—most impressively—the long-awaited return of All the Saints , January also saw up-and-comers Wowser Bowser and Shook Foil make big strides on the strength of their respective releases. But, for me, the record that really stood [...]
Does anybody else remember a semi-grungy, somewhat punk foursome out of Seattle called Hammerbox ? In 1993 the band released their sophomore LP, Numb , and I probably spent the next two years devouring every second of that record. I only bring them up now because I miss the hell out of that band and up-and-coming Savannah trio CUSSES happens to remind me of them—the angular guitars, the driving rhythms, the heavy hooks and taut energy. Frontwoman Angel Bond has a similar attitude and vocal approach as Hammberbox's Carrie Akre and I'm really enjoying what she's [...]
Little known, not-nearly-enough spoken about, but very much deserving of both, Cusses are sparking a New-Wave-Punk-fueled bonfire that shows no signs of being put out or having the fire department called before anyone can even warm their strong hands. So far this is song number four and post number three about Cusses , first coming to my attention back in July, their emotive and raucous modern punk sound comes across as a mix between Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Crystal Castles , and this new tune throws the YYYs comparison to the side in favour of [...]

Dirty southern rock and roll with feisty femme vocals - Cusses is Angel Bond on the microphone, Bryan Harder on guitars and Brian Lackey on drums. Kinda like LOS from London, but grittier, with that whole blistering wall of noise effect thing goin on. Got a feeling that Cusses will absolutely KILL IT live. Has to be said that Bryan Harder's beastly riffs reminds me of Jordan Buckley's ( Every Time I Die ). I just cant help thinking how full the sound will be and more visceral with a bassist and another guitarist. [...]

I'm not sure that they actually went anywhere, but I'm just gonna go ahead and say they're back anyway. Cusses are back! I last had them on the site back at the end of July when I posted a couple of their rollicking Peaches/Igg y Pop/Yeah Yeah Yeahs-style jams, and then yesterday they dropped off a lovely new track in my Soundcloud dropbox. It's another stormer, bordering on some of Queens Of The Stone Age's heavier stuff with a spit and a bite like no other. Keep up to date with Cusses - MySpace | [...]

Cusses are out of the States and do ballsy guitar stuff. Their track Whatcha Gettin In comes complete with Cowbell in the verse and just a hard sound that digs it's heels in and stays with you. Perhaps the shortest post I've written, but I think the track speaks for itself. Cusses - Whatcha Gettin [...]

One thing I do very very rarely is copy and paste a press release. I won't do that here, but I will give a nod towards what was sent to me, in that they're a three piece band consisting of a conjoint, raw, forceful drummer, named Brian Lackey. A soaring set of keys, mixed with an insane vocal box named Angel Bond, and a gargantuan wave of guitar known as Bryan Harder. If you mix Peaches with Iggy Pop and Yeah Yeah Yeahs you'll get close to the sound of Cusses, an emotional and atmospheric punk trio who, [...]
Again, we're going to forego our normal weekly posting of the New Releases, and tell you just to check out the new album from Wavves. If you didn't like the second one like most everyone else seemed to, King of the Beach is far less 'noisy'. It's pretty good. And with that, let's move on [...]

Þá er komið að hinum sívinsæla liði hér á Rjómanum er ritstjóri opnar pósthólf Rjómans. Síðustu vikur hefur safnast upp mikill haugur af innsendri tónlist erlendis frá (innlendar innsendingar hafa forgang) og því líklegt að mörg áheyrileg gersemin leynist þar á meðal. Við skulum sjá hvað kom upp úr krafsinu og tæklum verkefnið í tveimur ef ekki þremur áföngum. Black Cherry - Fake Blood Megane Quashie og Guilhem Fraiss mynda hið hressilega dúó Black Cherry . Þau voru að gefa úr EP plötu nýlega sem [...]

Cusses - Whatcha Gettin' In I was in a bit of a "fuck guitarz" kinda mood last Friday, semi-ranting to two of my friends about my current disillusionment with what's out there at the moment. So glad when something like this comes along to stomp on my mouth after making me choke on my own words. Cusses laid waste to my soul a few months ago with some pummelling prettiness off of their Thurst EP . If "Blood Everywhere" was like hugging a pastel switchblade, this is that switchblade being dangled [...]

Cusses - Blood Everywhere I can't quiet put my finger on it but there seems to be an air of nonchalant loveliness to this song. I feel as if I'm stretched out on my bed, glazed over on a Sunday morning, lamenting the night before as sunlight invites itself into my room and blankets me, giving my body some sort of washed over reprieve from all the dirt and dry sweat on my skin I just can't seem to shake off. Waves and waves of creamy distortion backed with forceful [...]
