There is not a whole heap I can say about this party, other than it's is bound to get wild-diculous. So I have put in the official write up of how things are going to go down on the night. There are still double passes up for grabs, so RSVP on the Rdio facebook page for your chance to get your hands on one. "Taking over Fitzroy’s Workers Club and The Valley’s Coniston Lane , we’re cramming their stages with GOLD FIELDS, CUT OFF YOUR HANDS, BLEEDING KNEES CLUB, DIE! DIE! DIE!, LOVE CONNECTION, [...]

Usually I would never mention game soundtracks and there are plenty of reasons for that. But when I was talking with the VS staff earlier this week about the Silent Hill HD Collection , Silent Hill Downpour and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City games coming out this month, it became clear that it wouldn't be completely out of the ordinary to talk about them. After all, why not? So here are my top 5 favorite songs used in a video game or soundtrack for a game... just because. [...]

The calm before the storm. Literally. New York is bracing for the biggest hurricane it's ever faced (named after Irene Ryan, Granny Clampett was one tough cookie) and I'm just hoping my 100 year-old building will survive the winds. (It survived the earthquake on Monday... what a week!) Until then, or if you're somewhere not on the East Coast of the United States, please enjoy the collection of mostly jangly pop. This week mostly ping-pongs between now and the mid-'80s (hey, that's new for me!), with a few stops in the '90s as well. Cover art this week [...]

Craft Spells: Idle Labor - I'm noticing a lot of bands getting their influences from 80s new wave... maybe its just me. The good thing is, some bands are actually achieving a perfect balance between the past and the present. Another one of those bands is Craft Spells . With Idle Labor , Craft Spells spin tales of love, loss and all of the other romantic things you'd expect to a soundtrack of near-perfect dreamy synth pop. What makes them most unique from others in the genre(which is getting more crowded all the [...]

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars With their first album, You & I , you sort of had the feeling that New Zealand outfit Cut Off Your Hands might have been yearning for the British Isles, but with their release of Hollow , the band has completed their maturation, giving fans a full-on venture into the sounds of the Oceanic region of the world. "You Should Do Better" begins with a rolling drum beat, and chiming guitars, [...]

Cut Off Your Hands - You Should Do Better
Auckland, New Zealand, City of Sails, home of the Sky Tower, various volcanoes and rugby. Not to mention the band Cut Off Your Hands, which I used to confuse with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and in turn Does it Offend You, Yeah? Both great indie bands in their own right, though out of the three, Cut Off Your Hands is the most relatable. Singer Nick Johnston has more than just brooding good looks on his side, he's got the versatile vocals to match. The soothing side of Robert Smith and the lighter side of Ian McCulloch, with [...]

Cut Off You Hands just released a new track. Not my favorite of theirs but a good summer groove that is sure to have you dancing in your car with the windows down (at least once this unbearable heat wave that seems to be hitting most of the country is over). It's from their newly released album, Hollow, which came out on iTunes this Tuesday (though the physical CD doesn't come out until August

Music Videos: Priory – “Lady of Late” - Three parallel realities, one frontman, and a girl who decides his fate. Cut Off Your Hands – “Fooling No One” - Newton’s Laws have been redefined for this video from New Zealand creative team, They. Eclectic Method – “The Dark Side” - Joining the Dark Side of the force certainly has its benefits, as this video goes on to prove. Grimes – “Beast Infection” - Constructing glass house models can be time [...]

It's been a long three years at this here blog, but I believe that Brian's album review of Cut Off Your Hands' debut album, You and I, got the ball rolling around here. Actually, I went back and perused the review, which you can do HERE . The band has been completely off of my radar over the last couple of years, and here we meet again with the freshly released track, "Hollowed Out" from their forthcoming sophomore release, Hollow (August 16 via [...]

VCP New Zealand's Cut Off Your Hands made some noise a couple years ago with their debut You And I , an enjoyable if not especially original collection of hepped-up, post-punk pop tunes intended to incite pogoing. And they worked that record pretty hard in North America, eventually losing both founding guitarist Mikey Ramirez to the rigours of touring and drummer Brent Harris to damaged hearing. A couple years on and both are back in the fold to some degree and the band is back with [...]
With a few neat camera tricks, Cut Off Your Hands present a fantastic video for "Fooling No One." Check out the rather interesting video above, and the band's new LP, Hollow Out , will be out via French Kiss on August 16.

When news came a few weeks back that Cut Off Your Hands were going to have a new record, I expected sort of angular post-rock, like their debut. But, the more I listen Hollow Out , which hits stores on August 16th via Frenchkiss , the more I realize I couldn't be further from the truth of it. There's definitely a Brit-pop feel to this latest single, letting you know that the band's willing to explore all sorts of territory on this latest effort. [...]
