Mezzanine Owls [MP3] Mezzanine Owls - Lightbulb Today's a bit hectic. Not a whole lot of time to post. Just know that Mezzanine Owls last night at the troubadour were fantastic. They had some technical difficulties but still came out stupendous. 1990s also opened and were great. Very fun party band if you ask me. Singer Jackie McKeown's teeth were [...]

Cut Off Your Hands Bir prodüktör olarak Bernard Butler Yeni Zelanda'ya girmiş ve sürekli birşeyler çıkartıyor. The Veils'in ardından sırada Cut Off Your Hands var. Gitarları The Smiths tarzı, vokalleri klasik indie çığlıkları. Ben çok sevmedim ama Modern Way onlar için uygun bir yer. Indie kalabalığına katılıyor onlar da. Cut Off [...]

Did You See The Words - Animal Collective I don't listen to these guys anywhere near as much as I should. This was made clear to me when I heard this song on the radio recently and realised how much I liked it. They have a sort of primal energy about them and their music simply radiates hyperactivity. What's not to love about that? They have another album on the way so I'll be sure to give it a proper listen. The Magic Position – Patrick Wolf I [...]

The Kings Arms is a strange little place, opposite a swingers club just out of the city centre, it's scummy but cosy, rough but friendly, and has a garden out the back with remarkable acoustics. There were eight bands on in the night, and either by divine providence or too much poker we (that's me, Ellie, Matt and Sam, for future reference) unfortunately missed the first three bands. I would've been quite interested to see what Ladybird were like in a live context, but still we had five bands to go and as we entered [...]

01. Ford And Fitzroy - " The Weatherman's Refrain " . It opens with an Explosions In The Sky -esque single-notes guitar riff then launches in with the lyric of the fortnight (" it was filled with B-flats and with F's "). If you'd do dig this at first, let it sink into it. It crawls into my head constantly (and I love those great bass runs). " And when, when he's feeling lonely, he remembers the [...]

March is on the way and that can mean only one thing for the indie (and not so indie) music community: the industry clusterfuck that is South by Southwest . A billion bands, a million venues, random house parties, free booze, and zero sleep in an oasis in Texas. I've wanted to go so badly in past years...but I seem to be over that urge for some reason. Anyway, just like last year , a stack of Australian and New Zealand artists will be making their way to Austin to try and impress anyone who will listen. [...]

Due to the threat of legal action by a band based in Portland Oregon, Shaky Hands have now become Cut Off Your Hands . In what must be a huge inconvenience for the young NZ band, not to mention their adoring fans, to their credit they have just gotten on with things and made a clever switch with the name of their much loved EP from 2006. Rolling Stone once said about them "awesomely angular, New Zealand's new finest purveyors of controlled chaos" , and they will strutting their stuff at this year's [...]
