As another crazy work week comes to a close, let's all take a deep breath and dive deep into the soul-restoring waters of Alright, You Restless (and maybe a drink or two, if that's your thing). Alright, You Restless is the enthusiastic debut album by Portland's AgesandAges , and gosh darn if it doesn't just make people feel happy and… what is that? Hope? A good thing, since that was pretty much the point. AgesandAges was born from frontman Tim Perry's desire to beat down northwest apathy. I [...]

I don't know if the correct term is "blessed," "graced," or "honored," but I felt all of the above when guest DJ Wyndham's funky mix landed in my inbox this month. I can think of no more fitting of a mix in light of Don Cornelius' recent passing. I know you all got soul, so be sure to enjoy these Super Low Prices. Although their time as a group lasted just under 4 years, British funk group Cymande as had an big influence on music as their tunes have been sampled by some of the hip hop greats. Formed in 1970 the multi instrumentalist group released 4 albums and shared the stage with great such as Al Green and appeared on the famous US show Soul Train. With tunes such as "Bra" and "The Message" now being regularly played by DJ's, I've picked my favourite "Brothers On the Slide" for bring the smooth Saturday funk.

Stupid Human is giving away an edit of Cymande's "Going Down" for free on soundcloud for a limited time only. You know what to do. Grab it and dance.

James & I are spilling it at Joshua Brooks tonight. To save everyone some time, the toilets are in the corner through the double doors, I'm not sure how much it is to get in downstairs and we don't have any dubstep remixes of Adele. We do have this though. Cymande - Getting It Back (Loose Lips Edit) / BUY pic from moscowandberlin
Eclecticism should have been this bands second name as this near ten person band makes the average performance with your flutes, bongos, guitars and your congas sound like a PhD course in quantum physics. Arriving into the London, UK from the West Indian islands of Guyana and Jamaica, 1971 was the year in which Cymande [...]

Eclecticism should have been this bands second name as this near ten person band makes the average performance with your flutes, bongos, guitars and your congas sound like a PhD course in quantum physics. Arriving into the London, UK from the West Indian islands of Guyana and Jamaica, 1971 was the year in which Cymande formed and began telling a story to the world which based itself around their own concept of "Nyah-Rock." Mixing together a melting pot of funk, soul, reggae and African soaked rhythms, sophistication beckoned, with notoriety and free formed inspired stalwarts hiding [...]

The Beat Electricians aren't posting much these days because we are too busy planning for the rapture that is coming in three weeks. In that time, the only thing that will survive other than a few pious Americans and their Hummers along with my Threshold SA 3.9e, which was made to withstand such an ordeal. In all honesty, I need a new soundcard and just came up with a janky solution to rip a couple of jamz for you foos. So here we have a favorite jam of mine off of Cymande's second record that came out on [...]

This is some song. Brothers on the Slide might just be among the top three funk songs I have ever heard. It's like that song you play at full blast in your car with the windows down if you're feeling particularly invincible, or like the one you play on your headphones as you walk down the street because you know today is your day. You know, that day where all the pretty girls are looking at you and nothing is going wrong and you look good and you even remembered to shave and tie your shoes this morning. It's impossible [...]
SIART has been slacking so far this year. There's nothing like a good Funky Friday to rectify and reboot the old blog. Today's selection includes some oldies of all ages and some slightly fresher material. All of it is guaranteed to get your head nodding and your toes tapping - maybe even a bit of booty shaking. Happy weekend!Sly & Robbie feat. Shinehead - Boops (Here To Go) (Twelve Inch)St.

Ten years after Jeff Astle had won them the FA Cup, West Bromwich Albion hit some more peaks thanks in part to these three: Pic from left to right: Laurie Cunningham, Brendon Batson and Cyril Regis It all started when the Baggies employed a relatively unknown young manager (previously at Cambridge United) by the name of Ron Atkinson. (Yes, yes, racist Ron, etc...) He inherited a team that included youth-team graduate Bryan Robson, as well as Messrs. [...]

Cymande - Bra Another tune perfect for a Friday afternoon, this one from West Indian funk group Cymande who were discovered in London at the start of the '70s. Along with 'The Message', this was one of their better known tracks - made famous as a sample on De La Soul's 'Change in Speak'. Catch the equally brilliant 'Brothers on the Slide' below...
