I don't write about compilations much on the hill, but when I do, I prefer they be from Urbnet . Ha, I just most interesting-man-in-the-world'd you, and you didn't see it coming, so well done me, very current reference there for sure. But seriously, I've said this before and I'll keep on saying it, if you're looking for a way to keep tabs on some of the most talented hip hop and urban artists in Canada, then you need to check with Urbnet . I've always tried to post on their Underground Hip Hop compilation [...]

Tuesday morning I was given a wonderful present. The Juno Award Nominations were announced and I was fortunate to get my third. Best Rap Recording for Jonestown 2: Jimmy Go Bye Bye. I spent the day in celebration mode. Congratulation texts/e-mails. Sneaky Dees. Heroin. Disco dancing. Bar room brawling. Giving my self stitches, fixing up my gash courtesy of Bruce Cockburn's butterfly knife... *advice. never pronounce his surname the way it's spelt. he doesn't find it funny. ask my scar.* ...and that was the day. The night was spent with the posse in the [...]

I didn't have anything exciting and new (other than a lame "Love Boat" reference) to write about today, so instead I'd like to play a little game. It's about as simple as a game can be and you may find yourself playing it at home sometime. Just put your music player on random, listen to 3-5 songs, and explain why they're in your library. I call it Shuffle. The general idea is this: we all have vast, ever growing libraries of media. As much as we'd like to go through and get rid of those albums we'll never [...]

Urbnet is a label I've always had a lot of time for. This is due to the fact they've always tried to fight the good fight as far as hip hop and progressive electronic/urban type music is concerned. As an example, earlier this year I posted on Emay and mentioned that I thought he was doing some of the most original hip hop I'd heard coming out of Canada. Well, check the tracklisting for URBNET's 7th annual edition of their hip hop compilation and you'll see Emay on there - a small example perhaps, but it heartens [...]

Video Hits is back! It's been a few weeks since we've hit you off with our Thursday dose of hot Canadian video content, but on the bright side, the downtime has allowed for us to amass a stack of great vids to choose from. As it turns out, a number of those videos are from some of the hill's favorite hip hop acts, so this edition of the Video Hits is a four-pack featuring Ghettosocks, Teenburger (DJ Jorun, Ghettosocks & Timbuktu), Muneshine and D-Sisive. I'm just going to go ahead and assume that [...]
