D-Sisive - West Coast Some more from Toronto alt.-rapper D-Sisive, this time from his upcoming mixtape Jonestown, dropping November 18. These fringe rappers like D-Sisive can come off as a bit too left-field for people, but trust me, the dude is so sick. D-Sisive builds his raps on imagery-filled stories in which the images are formed [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive , Canada When Derek " D-Sisive " Christoff first arrived on the Toronto hip-hop scene in the late '90s, he was as cocky as any up-and-coming MC. But a bout of personal tragedies -- including his father's death followed by crippling depression and writer's block -- kept the rapper, then best known for bitingly hilarious one-liners, off the mic for six years. [...]
Heidi Happy feat. D-Sisive - Why As of late, I haven't been making any posts about well-known artists and songs...and I'm not going to break that run just yet. I've never heard of Heidi Happy before, but after hearing her on this song I'm definitely going to check out her stuff (her latest album is called [...]

Five Funky Stories is the magical random question generator to harass profile acts that are coming to Halifax, and with HPX on the horizon, we're going to try and feature as many of the acts as we can here. We're starting with one someone I'm rather excited to see perform, D-Sisive. I doubt anyone in the bloggity-blog world has talked more about this T.O. MC and his return to the music world over the last year or so than us, so if you need [...]
It struck me today that it was high time we got a post up for HPX '09, and when you consider that my first post for HPX '08 was a year ago today, my timing seems bang on. HPX is of course the Halifax Pop Explosion , certainly the indie event of the year for many in this city, and I don't think it's a stretch to say that since its inception 17 years ago, it has become one of the biggest music festivals of it's kind in Canada. Well, now that I've broken out [...]

D-Sisive - Four The countdown has begun. Alternative hip-hop recording artist, D-Sisive , has just released 'Four': the first installment in a serious of pre-release singles in anticipation of his November LP, Jonestown. 'Four' features the instrumental 'Alley Spying', hijacked from Slim Twig's critically acclaimed album 'Contempt!'. Watch out for D-Sisive's forthcoming digital only release entitled 'Jonestown', available on November 18th, 2009 - The 31st anniversary of the Jonestown Massacre.

Thanks to the good people at Urbnet and the Musebox I was able to get my hands on the Polaris Long List album Let the Children Die by D-Sisive . I, of course, was curious as the prolific reviewers at the Herohill are big fans , but I also feel like I've been going through a big hip-hop drought this year. I'm not entirely sure whether Let the Children Die is going to fill that void as I tend to favour hip-hop with that is production [...]

Muneshine - Farewell Muneshine - Farewell (Radio Edit) From the album "Status Symbol" available August 11th, distributed in Canada by URBNET. Muneshine has come a long way. Now in Toronto, he has established himself as a respected and sought- after MC, producer and mix engineer. He has sold over 30,000 albums worldwide, worked with hip hop legends (Pete Rock, DJ Spinna and more) and has earned the respect and praise of fans, artists, media and industry folks alike. "Status Symbol" is a 'no filler' album, complete with [...]

I've gone the All-Canadian route on BOX!, our semi-regular rap single round-up, quite a few times actually, but I'm not sure I've ever done it for our video segment. Well, no time like the present I say, and that's all the more true when you consider I just so happen to have accumulated some videos from the creme de la creme of Canadian hip hop (milestone: first time I've used creme de la creme in a post I do believe). Shad, Buck 65, and D-Sisive, does it get any better when you're talking Canadian hip hop? Well [...]

Before I begin, I guess some people weren't happy when I said the " longlist sucked " but hey, for some reason to me it felt lacking and I still feel that way. Anyway, while our site has covered most of these albums – a lot of them have not been checked out by me personally. It's hard to say I listen to all my writer's music but it generally doesn't give an idea how good an artist is when I just listen to a few mp3s. Instead of trying to review all the albums now (we can [...]

D-Sisive - "The Superbowl Is Over (Feat. Buck 65)" Northern Exposure is Spinner Canada's weekly MP3 column highlighting the best in new Canadian music. This week we go daily to feature the finest acts at Toronto's North by Northeast festival. After garnering buzz in the early part of the decade, Toronto MC D-Sisive all but fell off the map before storming back with a flurry of morose, introspective releases over the past year, including two mixtapes and his first full-length, 'Let The Children Die' (Urbnet). read more

As a wise man once said "from great pain comes great art" (in fact I might be that wise man, as I think I just made that up), and I can think of no better recent musical example of this than the output of Toronto MC D-Sisive over the last year or so. From his re-introduction to the Canadian hip hop scene on the excellent EP The Book, through various single releases after that, up to the release of his debut full-length album, Let The Children Die, earlier this month, the main theme driving D's songwriting was [...]

All righty, we have some good stuff for you fine folks on the snow & ice encrusted morning. Well we've got snow & ice here in Halifax, likely most of you don't where you are, and I'm sure you're happy about that. Either way, get ready to get warmed up, Canadian hip hop style, as we present the second All-Canadian edition of our hip hop single-fest BOX! The previous All-Canadian edition seemed to be quite popular, and I think this one is even better, so let's get to it. [...]

Toronto MC D-Sisive has a new EP dropping on Urbnet this coming Tuesday. It's called Like This (Plus Three) and the lead single is the rugged, and appropriately named Like This , which features a hardcore cameo from Detroit MC Guilty Simpson and some scratching assist from DJ Grouch. Of course I think you should buy it, but better yet, if you have yet to hear D's stellar release from earlier this year, The Book , you'd be well served to pick that up as well. This is not just lip service either, going [...]

Like legendary Halifax realtor Scot Pottie, Toronto's Urbnet records has been on fire the last few months. First they hit us with the Carps EP Waves & Shambles , which we both thought was excellent ( review & interview for your perusal), then came DL Incognito's new album, A Captured Moment in Time, which I kind of gushed over a little bit. Now comes their latest release that I'm going to have to break out the superlatives for, D-Sisive's The Book . I've been a [...]
