And so here's a video from everyone's favourite male parent Dad Rocks! , or moustache virtuoso and all-round good egg Snævar Njáll Albertsson. Weapons (and much of Snævar's output as Dad Rocks!) fosters a sound that's instantly familiar in its mellifluous acoustic fingerpickery - something like a wildly grinning Owen backed by the Mystic Valley Band - but Albertsson neatly avoids falling in line with the legions of lumpen indie-folk by virtue of his bizarre, oddly affecting lyrical nous. Let's take the last song on his debut full-length, Mount Modern [...]

Our video-blogger friends at Bands In The Backyard are big supporters of Philadelphia music, even when they're in Austin. For its inaugural (and unofficial) SXSW showcase—which was presented by WXPN and The Key—BITBY put a half dozen Delaware Valley artists on a backyard stage (more like a back porch) in a quiet neighborhood just outside of Austin's bustling downtown. The vibe was tremendously positive, from next-door neighbors extending warm welcomes early in the day, to Key favorite Attia Taylor performing her first-ever solo electronic set (which was mesmerizing). South Jersey rockers The Warhawks even [...]

MOKB has already announced a couple of other parties for this year at SXSW. In addition to those, we are very happy to announce that we are teaming up with the fine folks at Paper Garden Records . We are taking over Uncorked, a beautiful outdoor space overlooking Downtown Austin, located on 900 East 7th Street from 3pm until 11pm on Thursday, March 15th. The event is completely free to the public and a SXSW badge is not necessary for entry. The event is sponsored by Vitamin Water, Thinglink, Threads 4 Thought, and [...]
The graphics could come out of Dora the Explorer, but the rest of "Battle Hymn of the Fox Father" is all grown up.

Tweet It's Saturday night and I'm watching American Football. I'm not kidding. Regular readers of SGTMT (Hi Tom & Tim) will know that on Saturday evenings I often watch Match of the Day, drink whisky and write about music. However, for reasons unbeknown to me I'm watching American Football / Gridiron / bad Rugby. Confused. What's even more confusing is my sudden liking for Icelandic / Danish Folk. What's going on? Answers on a postcard to... Dad Rocks! [...]
The talent present on Snævar Njáll Albertsson 's debut full-length is undeniable. In the same creative neighborhood as the criminally underappreciated Alcoholic Faith Mission , Albertsson, an Icelander now living in Denmark, crafts lush pop soundscapes awash with his cleverly worded, sharp observations of contemporary life. The album is a distinct pleasure, perhaps the best of its kind to come out this year, but as with every album that is deemed "clever," Albertsson's "Mount Modern" has the tendency to occasionally be too clever for its own good: the instrumentation occasionally feeling a little too cute, the [...]

by teepoo Dad Rocks! is fronted by Icelandic musician Snævar Njáll Albertsson, which I have no idea how to pronounce. Don't worry his music is perfectly understandable and Weapons features Charles Spearin of Broken Social Scene. His album Mount Modern is chocked full of fun songs and hilarious lyrics if you listen closely. Dad Rocks!- Weapons Bandcamp Check out the video which is also pretty goofy:

Tweet [This review originally ran in slightly longer form over at GoldFlakePaint ] In August I moved to New York City, leaving behind the sun-weakened streets of Los Angeles, college, and grad school. A few weeks later I had my first listen of the album " Mount Modern" by Dad Rocks! During a period of such personal transition, the effect that music is having upon my memories, thoughts and feelings is more profound than it has [...]

Every year throws up one record that comes along and unexpectedly sweeps you off your feet. In 20112s case that record has been Mount Modern by Dad Rocks! It's not that we weren't a fan of Snævar Albertsson's previous work, or of his work with his band Mimas for that matter, it's just that we weren't expecting Mount Modern to be just as good as it is. Washes of acoustic guitar, gentle horns and gorgeous strings are perfectly complimented with his unique lyrics that are one part tongue-in-cheek humour [...]
What do you get when you cross Jack London with 8-bit Nintendo and Don Hertzfeldt? Surprisingly, you get this sweet-natured teaser.
Josh Wolf, lead singer of rock and rollers Hell City Kings, is fantastic. And mesmerizing. And pasty. During his set at the HPMAs (Warehouse Live, 6 p.m.), he stalked around the rostrum, teal ... Continue reading "2011 HPMA Showcase: What's Up, Dad Rock? " >

Deerhunter's prolific musical genius, Bradford Cox, has been one of our favorite 'indie' musicians for years. In addition to his work on his mothership, that is Deerhunter, Cox has lots of other music projects and collaborations, including the most popular of them all - his solo work under the moniker Atlas Sound, a project that [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
Jeff Tweedy, lead singer and songwriter for Wilco, was recently interviewed by The Sun. What he revealed about the band's lyrics was a bit surprising. "As a writer I don't take my lyrics nearly as seriously as a lot of people do," he said. "I enjoy singing them not because they're poignant, but because they

So, this week ends with a massive extravaganza of Toadliness, but it does look like it'll be relatively quiet along the way as there doesn't seem to be that much else around until the weekend. Which is actually alright, sort of, because it gives me a chance to get my shit together in advance of a very busy weekend indeed. Quite how we're going to sort the logistics of getting half the bands in Edinburgh to and from Anstruther on Sunday I don't know, but I am sure we'll manage somehow. Anyhow, in the meantime there [...]
"Weapons" by Dad Rocks! just goes to show that the feds don't care if you're a superfan--they'll still slap you with a million dollar fine.
