Today is a pretty day filled with sunlight and a clear blue sky. It's even warm at 48 degrees. The leaves at the end of the branches are blowing, but the wind is gone. It's a day to get out and do something. My dance card for the week is fuller than usual, with usual being empty. Wednesday and Thursday are booked, and Skip will be by to put up my outside Christmas lights on Friday so I'll have to scurry and get my wreaths. I love that errand: walking among the trees and wreaths and filling my [...]

It was a day to remember for Americans being "Super Tuesday" or simply US Election Day. There was alot of Canadian who were getting into the American politics and biting their nails to see if Obama was re-elected. I for one decided to get my mind off and went to this show at Pressed . Playing at the show: • Dads • Hamilton The show [...]

So my father is hip. He's thrown around the term "with it" a couple of times and I've caught him reading Gawker and Jezebel while a used and abused Wall Street Journal sits wrinkled in front of him at his desk. He's not one of those other dads, he's a cool dad ( Mean Girls reference anyone? eh eh?). I'm not ashamed to say that I've been introduced to many a new artist from him over the past couple of years. I remember one morning waking up while being home for the holidays [...]

Nostalgia is a beautiful liar. It makes us sadly long for the good times of yesteryear, while eclipsing the bad. And it is an even more deceitful beast when it’s not even your own. Outrun music, a synth pop sub-genre dedicated to genuine 80’s sounds, does just that. Even if you have no memories of the 80s, this burgeoning genre tricks you into thinking you do, and further more, it usually tricks you into thinking these memories were amazing. Unofficially founded by west coast Canadian producer Miami Nights 1984 and [...]
Two of Australia's most prolific songwriters going head-to-head? What do you get? Tom Iansek is known widely for making up half of Melbourne's Big Scary , but his solo project, Dads , is where Jonoathan Boulet has unleashed on Iansek's 'Life, Oh Life'. Boulet has done big things to this track, layers, big bass and some glitchy beats. Great song for the (slowly) warming weather. Dads Soundcloud // Jonothan Boulet Facebook

I was sad to find out that local outfit The Dads played their last show not long ago around the end of June; I wasn't able to attend the undoubted mayhem of it, but with the departure of lead singer Brady to Philadelphia, it makes sense that the band would call it quits. That being said, they released three songs as a sort of farewell last week on their Bandcamp page, and they're arguably the best sounding tracks they released in their short time together. Recorded with the help of local engineer Steve Roessner, the three song single/EP [...]

Happy Birthday, Dad Today, I remember two men whose impact on my childhood was inarguable. First - and most importantly - today would have been my dad's 78th birthday. But, if the report from North Carolina is correct, today also marks the passing of Andy Griffith. I've written about my dad extensively over the years. Having been gone for almost 14 years now, the memories fade further into the past. Although from time-to-time there's a flash of him in my son, and in those instances, my heart skips a beat with happiness. I can't [...]

Happy Father's Day, Dad. Back home from Desert Storm. Thanks for: - Dressing me up in camo as a little kid and teaching me to hit the center of the C on the Coke can with my BB gun from the farthest corner of the yard. - Being with [...]

So I thought I might like to go to this show. When news of this show was announced (all the way back in November), I jumped on the presale to secure tickets that were to be a Christmas gift for my dad. I think I made a good call on that gift, pretty sure he thought so too. And for some reason, an adult that is in charge somewhere and has responsibilities let me take photos of this show. A huge thank you to them, because it's cool when unexpectedly nice things happen. Through all the shows I've [...]

This is for my Dad. He passed away nine years ago today. I was shocked. I was despondent. I was really f'ing angry. But nine years later, no matter how upset I might get, one particular song always cheers me up — "Rainbow Connection". One of my all time favorite memories is Dad strumming along on his guitar and singing "Rainbow Connection" to my sister and I. I'm certain my love for everything Muppets is because of my Dad. Come to think of it, my "expert love" for everything music is because of my Dad. Heck, [...]

Mariah Carey's in the studio, but not that kind of studio. She actually took the time out to do a little voice-over work for American Dad, one of our all-time favorite TV shows. Not sure what the episode was all about but we will make sure to catch it.
