Daft Punk's new single "Get Lucky" has gone top twenty in the US and topped the digital charts in 55 different countries. Their album Random Access Memories is full of lush sounds and throwback nods to disco. Probably a good thing. "Give Life Back to Music" opens the album, and the song title indicates that these guys feel something has been lacking in music today. Don't expect glow sticks or intensity on this track. Another unauthorised remix of a track from the new Daft Punk album. Assume there is a blizzard of these. Hard as Theatre of Delays tries, I can't enthuse myself about this track. The original is sludgy vocodered moroder disco with a soft rock topping. Theatre of Delays gives it a bit of a faster feel, more twinkle-toed in the disco and attempts some oomph. The coolest thing about Daft Punk (and there's a lot of cool shit about them) was, is, and always will be how they've inspired a generation of producers (big and small) while totally transforming America's perception of electronic music. For better and worse. And they're power is very evident in Daughter's cover and subsequently, Holtoug's Deep Edit of it.
