Boston's Dagha graced out Best of October list in 2010 with his collaboration with producer Psych Major. The duo's record Noise Is The Trigger rode an off-kilter knock like DJ Muggs production fed through an electro-mutator (an invention I made up that infuses electro sounds into music). With a 7" on the way in March, Dagha is in a giving mood and sent over "Grow" for free download. The track is an outtake from the Noise Is The Trigger sessions that did not make the EP. Psych Major's psychedelic...
WildFellow from Psych Major on Vimeo . Dagha, the very definition of underrated, coming through with some lo-fi fuzz rap a la Shabazz Palaces. Digging so deep for that Inspectah Deck "City High" sample. It is a low-grade misdemeanor that he and Edan never released a full record together. His Noise is the Trigger EP is out now, with guest appearances from Smooth Da Hustler and Lil Dap. Sure, why not. Via Rock the Dub

I think it goes without saying that Edan is not just one of the most talented cats in hip-hop, but in all of music. His track and performance records speak for themselves; show me someone else who gets love from DITC and ATP. So I felt it worthy of a blog post when I heard that he's in Boston tonight, and not just in his DJ capacity, like when I caught him for an interview at Good Life a year ago. Along with Moe Pope and Dagha - both of whom have [...]

Dagha's newest single 'The Remedy' is worth your pences for Edan's beat alone. I say beat, but it's really just an acoustic guitar loop that is just soooo nice! Dagha's lyrics would probably nestle better if Edan had thrown some drums in but then the instrumental wouldn't be what it is. Despite Dagha coming across a little offbeat his Hip Hop memory lane lyrics hit home to make this single a nice track to have in your collection. It's available now [...]

For me, dropping an annual best discs list is like stripping myself naked and moseying through paintball warfare. There are lots of snipers on the prowl who are eager to dent my dome, and this gives them a ripe opportunity to blast me silly. Yet I'm here anyway – unbound from any and all generic "Top 10" constraints – offering my favorite twenty-or-so albums of 2008 (in alphabetical order). By rough estimate I checked anywhere from 200 to 250 projects this year, and, unlike cats who obsess over the depraved hip-hop landscape, I have [...]

Just Kidding. I noticed in the programs/schedules we got that they joked about a big thing that set ATP apart from other festivals being "that no one selected or even wanted Jack Johnson ", and if you read this blog regularly, you know I can appreciate that sentiment. We stuck around until last call at the bar at The Raleigh Friday night, so the first band I was able to catch on Saturday was the end of Growing 's set. The 10 minutes or so I saw, I thought sounded great. I'll be looking hard into [...]

1. Cop that Mission of Burma product . 2. If you've ever seen Eli "Paperboy" Reed play a live set, you've probably thought to yourself, "Damn, I'd like to download that kid's record collection." Next best thing: he guest-deejayed and spun a shitload of really rare records on PJ's "Galactic Fractures" show, which you can, in turn, download. Bonus beats at the end by PJ, who gets on [...]
