![LISTEN :: Dam-Funk + Leon Sylvers III – "I'm Not Easy, But We Can Talk" [circa 1990]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3538152_lg.jpg)
From Stones Throw : The full details (spoken when I was hella young & my voice was a tad higher) are laid over a Stanley Clarke instrumental, then...the groove me & the great Leon Sylvers III did, kicks in soon after. It was recorded in my bedroom in Pasadena, CA. The song never made it to Atlantic Starr's album, but was still a good learning experience, recording w/ 1 of my 1st musical mentors: Leon Sylvers III. The song briefly appeared on a hand full of cassette tapes I made in [...]
Summer in NYC is now in full swing and we've got a busy week of local shows already upon us. I'm getting stoked for two shows this weekend, which should both be stellar. Friday night I'll be heading out on the Hudson to join Brothers Past on "the Big F-ing Boat" (aka the Rocks Off Concert Cruise ). Saturday is all about catching White Denim rock out at the Bowery Ballroom , which is why I posted the video above from one of their Austin shows in march. I'm really digging their [...]

Debi Del Grande traveled across this great land to Tennessee, braving the heat and hippies to capture Bonnaroo for L.A. Record. Her sum up of Day One includes Kopecky Family Band, Best Coast, River City Extension, Dam Funk, Drums, Childish Gambino, The Knux, Reverend Payton, Twin Shadow, Wavves, and Karen Elson. Just a few days after reappearing on the scene with " Keep Glidin' ", our favorite harbinger of funk comes through with a personal thank-you to his fans in the form of this previously unreleased demo. "All Nite Long" apparently stems from Dam-Funk's recording sessions back in 2001. He laid the track to a cassette tape after smoking "hella good chronic" and drinking "some Remy Martin." It's a bit long at nearly 10 minutes, but there's something oddly hypnotizing about it all. Hit the skip to stream "All Nite Long". [...]
Ok, so you've figured me out: I'm a hippie at heart, even if I do shave my head and trifle about like a poor man's Galifinakis at times, I'm a tree-hugging, alternative lifestyle, camping out kinda guy. It's Thursday morning, June 9th, and I'm on my way to Bonnaroo . This year's Bonnaroo trip for me is about being open to new experiences. I really don't know the music of a number of the people performing and, to be honest, I haven't had the time in the [...]
Ready for summer? Dam-Funk sure as hell is, though dude kind of lives in a permanent summer state of mind over there in L.A. But for everyone else experiencing the heat wave - particularly my heads in the Northeast - his latest track is the perfect tune to mellow out with while sippin' a cold drank. The only downside to "Keep Glidin'" is that its unmastered, so here's hoping we hear a final version sometime...SOON. I need it for my next get-together. Whenever that is. Hit the skip to stream "Keep Glidin'". [...]

The son of the funk teams up with one of the forefathers. Dam's producing a whole album by former Slave frontman Steve Arrington. Due out this summer on Stones Throw but we get an early listen here on "Goin' Hard." Steve Arrington & Dam-Funk - "Goin' Hard" (Prod. By Dam-Funk) Via Stones Throw

Steve Arrington x Dam Funk - Goin' Hard by stonesthrow Now sometimes OGs gotta be OGs. I love it when 2 musical innovators come together to create something that just kills it. Steve Arrington and Dam Funk have gotten together to produce an album that can only be described as classic. Steve Arrington is one of those "what ever happened to" stories from the soul/funk movement of the 1980s. His songs have been sampled by the likes of Jay-Z, Jermaine Dupri, Tribe Called Quest, De [...]

As a metro-Detroiter who loves all things Detroit, I can pretty confidently say that the Movement Electronic Music Festival (the festival formally known as DEMF aka Detroit Electronic Music Festival) is among my top Detroit events of the year. I remember back in the day when I drove down to Detroit all by myself for the first time to go to the fest (before I even knew what electronic music was, but just wanted to see what all the commotion was about) when it was still free, with every kind of character you could imagine inread more [...]

Detroit is about to be booming with some of the richest and most desirable artists our generation has to offer. The blues, gospel, jazz, pop, R&B, rock and roll, hard core and hip-hop scenes have all individually established their presence in this Midwestern city. The birth of Motown Records might have been reason enough to shed some infinite light on Detroit's musical talents, but Motown's soulful sounds laid the concrete base for what was next. George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic's instrumental layers and song structures were borrowed to help directly influence Detroit's "Techno" scene that debuted in the early 1980s. House, [...]

Brand New unreleased track (well I guess it's released now isn't genius!?) The Los Dangerous funk lord tells us all to DON'T GIVE UP on his most recent & decent. Peep & partake & enjoy & all that! damfunk-dontgiveup-unreleased DAM-FUNK - DON'T GIVE UP (UNRELEASED) | DOWNLOAD

Another loose track from Dam-Funk's series of free downloads, most of which are unmastered and all previously unreleased. Very smooth and almost pensive, "Don't Give Up!" rides a totally different lane than many of other tracks Dam's shared but it's still laced with sprinkles from Dam's smorgasbord of sounds. Dam-Funk has gone ahead and given his fans another one of his unreleased, unmastered tracks, which is titled "Don't Give Up!" The message is simple, but here it is from the ambassador of boogie funk himself: "Just....don't give up. That's it & that's all". Hang in there. - D-F Filed under: LISTEN TO THIS , Music Tagged: boogie , Dam-Funk , Don't Give Up! , electro , FUNK , unmastered , unreleased

So, it's hard to do Hypem Hunting every week. So, we're probably just going to do it every other week. Is that OK with you? I hope so, because you have no choice. This week the theme is "night". I hope I haven't used that one already. I'm actually in a bit of a rush because I just foudn out I won tickets to see Here We Go Magic, and I gots to leave real soon. So, hope this isn't the worst Hypem Hunting ever. I don't think it's bad though. In [...]
