Dam Mantle's brilliant second album "Brothers Fowl" was a firm favourite here at the Labs so any project with him attached is sure to grab our attention. His latest project sees him team up with fellow Glaswegians Silk Cut and Golden Teacher and unveil Lovers's Rights. The first collaborative work is set to land on High Sheen , a label that despite being only five releases young is starting to look like a buy-on-sight certainty, and the four tracks contained within certainly don't disappoint. "Motivation" kicks things off [...]

I cannot get enough of this amazing collaboration between fellow Glaswegians Bake(r) and Dam Mantle , it kind of takes me back to listening to Stan Getz records with my dad when I was like 5, so beautiful. Stream below:

When Dam Mantle's long-awaited debut, Brother's Fowl , dropped in the last few weeks of 2012, it was like Christmas had come early. We did, after all, describe it as "one of the most important electronic records of 20123. Our New Year's resolution was of course to talk to the creator, Mr Tom Marshallsay, about the music, the influences and the future. Bowlegs: When did you get into producing and making music? Tom: I was playing in bands since school, I guess I was about 14 when [...]
EVERY year I, my like most music writers both professional and amateur, bust an absolute gut to compile an Albums of the Year shortlist. Mine can be found here. However, with the best will in the world, no one person's perspective on the past 12 months can be all-encompassing - some of the best music will have been overlooked for one reason or another. Some will have been really low key or cult like Samuel Jackson Five's awesome LP, some will have been released too late to make an impression on a list, such as Gallops and [...]
Le Guess Who? is in volle gang.
Glasgow-based producer Dam Mantle has been developing his sound over the past few years and while the likes of the "Purple Arrow EP" showcased a young producer at grips with his chosen genre, "Brothers Fowl", his new album, shows those talents fully honed. From the opening notes of "Canterbury Pt 13, we're treated to a feast of lovingly polished electronica with elements of hip hop and jazz throughout. Standout moments include the title track and the aforementioned opener but while the album works very well as a long-player, each track [...]

Well it may be a little late to breathlessly announce 'live in Edinburgh this week' with multiple exclamation marks and the like, but tardy or not, there are some fine shows on in the capital this week, so plenty for you to do, should you be at a loose end and have a musical itch which needs a-scratching. I am listening to some Barna Howard in the office today, and it's perfect. The sun is blazing, but the weather is cold, and that kind of beautiful acoustic music is absolutely perfect for that odd sense of [...]

The sixth annual Le Guess Who? Festival takes place November 29th-December 2nd in Utretcht, a city 30 minutes outside of Amsterdam, NL. Joining in on this overseas adventure will be Matthew Dear, Bersarin Quartett, The Allah-Las, AmenRa, Lapalux, Cate le Bon, FIDLAR, Mala In Cuba, Dam Mantle, Team Ghost, Chain and the Gang, Old Apparatus, Palmbomen, Night Beds, Chris Cohen, Sinkane, Oathbreaker, Erin Lang & [...]

Glasgow producer Dam Mantle will release his debut album Brothers Fowl on Gold Panda's Notown label on 16th October. Cherry picked from that forthcoming joint is the title track, which serves as the gentlest of introductions for those who haven't heard his stuff before. Obscenely serene piano keys are punctuated by the odd breathy vocal contort and bubbling electronic phaser blast, all carried by a head nodding bass line. September 14th Berlin - Marie Antoinette 15th Hamburg - Kulturhaus III&70 [...]

Here's the slightly chilled title track from Dam Mantle's forhtcoming album (out early next month). It's also due to appear on a split 123 with producer Lover's Rights apparently.

Always have been a huge fan of Dam Mantle's sound ever since I saw him perform at The Troubadour in LA with Gold Panda. He most recently came out with his single, 'Canterbury Pt.1' on Gold Panda's label, NOTOWN Recordings . His debut album, Brothers Fowl , will be released on there, October 16. In the meantime you can download two gorgeously composed pieces from the mind of the underrated Glasgow abstractionist. The heightening rhythm scheme in 'Canterbury Pt.1' will classically elevate and surely astound. Also, download 'Full Moon & Moth', an [...]

Last weekend saw the Camden Crawl festival land in Dublin for the first time, with two nights of music spread across the city. State was on hand to report on the event and here's our pick of the acts from home and abroad. And So I Watch You From Afar - Button Factory, Friday Few bands seem to get better and better every time you see them live, but ASIWYFA are made of special stuff. New guitarist Niall Kennedy has filled the very big shoes of Tony Wright with aplomb, splicing [...]

Tomorrow from 5pm, Camden Crawl kicks off for the first time in Dublin. There will be 100 bands over two days in 15 different venues and you don't find out until the day who is playing where, you only know who is playing each day (all the times, ticket and how the festival works is here ). I can tell you that I am hosting The Grand Social on Friday and will have Little Xs For Eyes , Trophy Wife , Young Wonder and this fellah, Glasgow-based electronic musician Tom Marshall [...]
