Last weekend saw the Camden Crawl festival land in Dublin for the first time, with two nights of music spread across the city. State was on hand to report on the event and here's our pick of the acts from home and abroad. And So I Watch You From Afar - Button Factory, Friday Few bands seem to get better and better every time you see them live, but ASIWYFA are made of special stuff. New guitarist Niall Kennedy has filled the very big shoes of Tony Wright with aplomb, splicing [...]

Tomorrow from 5pm, Camden Crawl kicks off for the first time in Dublin. There will be 100 bands over two days in 15 different venues and you don't find out until the day who is playing where, you only know who is playing each day (all the times, ticket and how the festival works is here ). I can tell you that I am hosting The Grand Social on Friday and will have Little Xs For Eyes , Trophy Wife , Young Wonder and this fellah, Glasgow-based electronic musician Tom Marshall [...]

Dam Mantle has announced that he's to release a split 73 with fellow producer Buvette . The Glaswegian's track on the release will be called 'Kinship Dub', while Buvette will offer his track 'Song For Tanzman'. The single will be released physically and digitally on 28 May via Creaked Records. The vinyl edition is limited to just 300 copies, so you may want to pre-order it here . The full tracklist, if you didn't get that above, is: A. Dam Mantle - Kinship Dub [...]
Last week curators got together and picked the lineups for each of their venues over the weekend (see On The Record vs. Nialler92s London lineup - Charli XCX, Willy Moon, Cymbals & Disclosure ) and this week, Camden Crawl Dublin is announcing those names that have been added to the Dublin event on May 11th and 12th for the 15 total venues its taking over that weekend. Look out for future announcements of my gig in The Grand Social on the Friday with four bands from below's lineup. New names added to the [...]
We previously featured Breton 2 years ago when they released the Counter Balance via Untold's label Hemlock Recordings, the London indie label who've released stuff by forward-thinking garage/house/bass producers like Fantastic Mr Fox and James Blake. 2 years is a long time in music-industry-speak and Breton has somewhat primed in that space, developing their sound to higher levels of sophistication. Where previously they were almost always unavoidably compared to Foals, now the evolution is almost complete with a sound they can uniquely claim as their own. Take the example below from the Counter Balance ep: One of the video's commentators [...]
The Muppets win at everything. That's all I have to say on the matter. In other news, Mrs. Toad and I went out into the garden this weekend, to try and tackle the small jungle which has slowly been developing since the Summer. The weather has been so spectacularly shit since July and August that we just haven't been out there, so our window boxes have all died and every bed was overrun with weeds. Still, due to our particularly indelicate methods of gardening - a little closer to slash and burn than anything you might [...]

As you may know we were spinning tunes on Thursdays in our favourite bar The Ivy over the last year or so. Well after a little juggling we now have a new slot on the last Sunday of every month. While we will still be keep the vibe smooth for all those recovering from the rigours of the weekend, we will also be providing some party vibes later in the evening for all those Sunday stalwarts who are preparing to hit the city clubs for one more weekend boogie. [...]

This is a bit of out of left field from Becoming Real and a definite change in style from his previous works like last years 'Closer / Atlantic City' 123. 'Paramnesia' takes things altogether more upbeat and optimistic - an offbeat snare propping up a whirlwind of bubbling synths and bells. It's not just a change in style, it's a step up too. 'Paramnesia' will appear on a split 123 with Dam Mantle on 27 May via the new Get Me! label. Props to Jami for the heads up on this one.

Here are my favourite songs that came out in 2011. The Wilhelm Scream - James Blake Otis (feat. Otis Redding) - Jay-Z & Kanye West I'm On One (Shlohmo Remix) - DJ Khaled featuring Drake, Rick Ross & Lil Wayne Dat Ass - Earl Sweatshirt The Look - Metronomy Baby's Arms - Kurt Vile Hard In Tha Paint (Shlohmo's sit down remix) [...]

Sweet new remix by one of UK's newcomers of the year: Dam Mantle . The track was just put online by Boiler Room and you can download it for free from the Soundcloud player below. mp3 | Sahara Heart (Dam Mantle Remix)
Dam Mantle is the solo effort of Glasgow producer Tom Marshallsay. I caught this track as the 4052s "Track of the Day," and it's not hard to see why. The first and obvious observation to make is that this track is a bit of a departure from the dubstep sounds that littered Mantle's previous release, We . On "Spirit," the choppy, light percussion has been switched out for something smoother and jazzier. The skittering ride cymbals and looped piano chords are a nice addition to the forefront of this track, but try not [...]

I often find at the end of the year everybody sits back and reflects on the musical seasons the year's been through, and I also find that a lot of the most interesting and promising music trickles down to this latter part of the year. Bands and producers alike have been sitting on things they've been cooking for a while, and decide it's the right time to tease us with what's ahead. Dam Mantle recently put out this fantastically executed electronic pastiche, and I find myself really intrigued with where 2012 will bring us. He [...]

Hailing from Ohio, Freeze-Tag describes his music as "futuristic soul" inspired by retrograde tones. He also tries to do everything about music "in the spirit of jazz". Very interesting. We have some free downloads here from the man himself, so take a moment to digest Freeze-Tag's "prisma-chromatic" sounds. They are a bit on the minimal / simple side of things, not very jazzy at all but we've heard the new single "Eskimo" and that is THE ONE to wait for. Fans of Dam Mantle / Gold Panda / Stephen Farris will [...]

While Dam Mantle and Nathan Fake are given the fairly doable task of warming up an already simmering crowd, with no disrespect to these particular boys of beat tonight was always going to be about a seemingly perpetually hooded, charmingly reticent chap from Peckham by the name of Derwin . Under the Gold Panda moniker he's set many a mind, heart, and iPod aglow with ethnic sounds that usher the attentive listener through his sonic envisaging of the Orient, and as such, his Koko showing, his London date most vast thus far, was never to be anything [...]
Below is the latest edition of our weekly feature, Stuck On Repeat . The premise is simple, we've asked all our contributors to submit one [...]

I've been sent a couple of really nice remixes from London producer Becoming Real lately - each trying to outweird the other: Dam Mantle - Meet Me In The Ambulance (Becoming Real remix) by GETME! Blonde Redhead - Here Sometimes (Becoming Real Remix) by Anorak London
Glasgow's Tom Marshall, aka Dam Mantle , made a name for himself opening for Gold Panda with his epic, beat-friendly soundscapes in the vein of his former tourmate, a darker, distorted Toro Y Moi, or, drawing slightly further back, Caribou or Four Tet. However, there's something vaguely hip-hop about the beats that Marshall sinks into the electronic mires he creates that distinguishes him somewhat from those other artists. In the end, though, the clarity and depth of his compositions on the We EP are what really set them apart from the pack. The EP's title [...]

Was just looking through the new dashboard on my soundcloud when I chanced on this. Magic Panda is Tigerbeat6 's latest addition to their artist roster and he has a new ep coming out of the imprint called Days Are Numbered . Not to be confused with Gold Panda , think of Magic Panda as the melodic equivalent of Dam Mantle . Magic Panda is Jamie Robson from Norwich and he does the kind of lo-fi electronica woven together by richly textured, celestial soundscapes and a sometimes distinct house beat. I'm winding [...]
