If you want to do something Irish today for St. Patrick's Day why don't you do as Maria Doyle Kennedy and Damien Rice suggest and just Sing! http://www.mariadk.com/ Tweet
A few weeks ago I was asked to submit my top 13 tracks from Irish singer-songwriters since 2000 which was submitted to IASCA to be included in a package of music for BBC Radio 6 to potentially be played during their St. Patrick's Day shows. On 6 Music, presenters Cerys Matthews, (10-12noon), Huey Morgan (1-4pm) and Tom Robinson in Now Playing @ 6 Music (6-8pm) will each be selecting a few Irish artists to play during their shows. The station will also replay their Sinead O’Connor First Time special (12-1pm). Hopefully some of the [...]
I've been listening to a lot of (old) Damien Rice these days, something about the long nights of winter and the perfection in so many of those songs. It's good to hear Damien's unmistakable voice on something new, in this collaboration with Irish songwriter David Hopkins . The song was released a few years ago, but it is a welcome discovery for me tonight. There Are Debts (feat. Damien Rice) - David Hopkins
Filed under: News , Video , Holy Hell , New Music Getty | Getty In what has become a sort of festive tradition, U2 's Bono took to Dublin's Grafton Street on Christmas Eve alongside a host of other musicians to sing some Yuletide (and not so Yuletide) favorites before surprised fans and onlookers. As reported on fan site atu2.com -- and through a string of YouTube clips documenting the [...]
For the last year it was always interesting to find out on a weekly basis which album Rob O'Connor chose as his 'Essential Irish Album' on his Irish Beats radio show on Beat 102-103 radio show. If I did a similar list I'd have around 20 of the albums below so in all it's a great list of Irish albums. There's an extra special show on Beat tonight from 8pm. Rob will be playing tracks from ALL of the 50 Essential Irish Albums listed below. If you only listen to one [...]

When I lived in the UK in the early naughties a whole host of singer-songwriters such as Damien Rice, Paddy Casey, Mundy and Damien Dempsey who made their name in Ireland at that time. Roesy was a major part of that scene in Ireland but I never got into his music in the same way I became fans of Damien Rice and The Frames. However, in the last few years I've appreciated his music and lyrics immensely. For this Alternative Christmas song I'm sharing Roesy's well known song 'Trailing The True Star' in the hope that you'll discovery [...]
Photo Credit: Brantley Gutierrez Argentina born/Los Angeles based singer/songwriter Mia Maestro might be best known for her work in television and film, most notably in the 2002 movie Frida opposite Salma Hayek and in J.J. Abrams' ("Lost", "Fringe") 2001 - 2006 spy series, "Alias." . In fact, when I stopped to read the press release about her new single," I did a double take. "Mia Maestro?

Franco and the Dreadnought (OK,OK his real name's John Blaylock) announces himself on the scene with his powerhouse voice and agile fingers. This young lad has the goods and the capability of packing arenas full of people waving their lighters in the air and singing along with every fibre of their being. He and his trusty guitar, the Dreadnought , are bound to move the masses into musical bliss. It is awe inspiring to hear [...]
Damian Rice: [ Rootless Tree ] unsoundwilderness

Damien Rice played a show at Los Angeles' Hotel Cafe last week and played two new songs during the set. It has been 6 long years since 9 , Rice's sophomore album. Which, if you ask me, is far too long. I hope this is a sign that a new album is on the horizon. But even if that isn't the case, this should hold fans over for at least a few more years. The Greatest Bastard No One Need Know

Next month, it will be 6 years since Damien Rice's sophomore record, 9 , and yet there's still no word of a new LP following his split with Lisa Hannigan a half-decade ago. In the meantime, Rice has kept busy as a proven troubadour, busking in Dublin, recording one-off covers , and performing his most beloved cuts at festivals the world over. This week in Los Angeles, he played a surprise intimate set at singer-songwriter haven Hotel Café, complete with three heartbreaking new tunes he said describe various stages of a breakup. One song, "Wild and [...]

For Radiohead , as with so many bands formed in high school, it is the team that matters first and foremost, in no small part because of the tight and adept skills each band member has developed throughout their co-evolution and ongoing collaboration. Guitarist and composer Ed O'Brien is celebrated for his distinctive use of effects pedals, and for the harmonies he brings to help create and sustain Radiohead's rich, layered sound; the versatility of drummer Phil Selway has been a key component of their evolution as a modern band, especially as they have moved on to adopt [...]
Promises promises. I know I promised a more POP-focused post following my rock-themed update back on September 9th, but life happened. Apologies. Now the tunes I wanted to mention here are even more outdated but that's OK. There are still some quality tunes here worth talkin' about. In this post we cover new stuff from X-Factor winners, Little Mix, UK dreamboat Ben Montague, pop
Irish actress and singer Maria Doyle Kennedy is best known on this side of the Atlantic as villainess Mrs. Bates on PBS' hit series Downton Abbey. In her native Ireland, Maria is probably better remembered for her backup singer role in The Committments and her guest spot as Eoin McLove's assistant on Father Ted. But [...]
Singer Maria Doyle Kennedy seems to be one of Ireland’s best-kept secrets. The raven-haired Dubliner is probably more familiar to most as either the evil Mrs Bates from Downton Abbey, Katherine of Aragon from The Tudors, or Muriel Bately from the ITV mini-series Titanic. That’s all set to change with the release of her forthcoming album, Sing , a collection of ten newly crafted songs co-written with her husband Kieran Kennedy and featuring duets with Damien Rice, John Prine and Paul Brady. Having furrowed an acting career for herself Doyle Kennedy is now hoping to [...]
