Damien Rice gets constant spins at the Cafe. The only problem is, he is mood music. Not really good mood music. Rice's track 'Coconut Skins' off of his 9 album, which was released in 2006.

Joshua Hyslop has that chilled-out guitar ensemble that reminds us a bit of William Fitzsimmons and Damien Rice . That said, it's notable to point to his upcoming release of Where The Mountain Meets The Valley . Not only is this album Hyslop's debut, but a moving one as well. Written after his journey discussed in the video below. Where The Mountain Meets The Valley will be available July 3rd. Video: Joshua Hyslop - Do Not Let Me Go [Acoustic] [...]
Have you heard of Ben Howard? Until recently, neither had I (although a song of his, "Promise" did appear in an episode of House this season). Try as I might to remain ahead of the curve when it comes to quality UK music, this talented guy slipped by unseen and unheard. Hey, it happens! There's just so much good stuff coming out of the UK these days that I can't keep track of it all.

'Estuary' is a solid debut album of unpretentious rock tunes from Australia based Irish singer-songwriter Minus Circus with a few superb moments of brilliance. I've just read the bio of Minus Circus on his website and I got a real sense of the meaning behind 'Estuary'. This album is the result of a decade's work from the Drogheda born artist. All those years running singer-songwriter nights in Dublin, playing numerous gigs every year, years writing and re-writing personal songs have been [...]

Nina Simone's catalog include two of the most powerful tracks ever recorded: "Feeling Good" and "Be My Husband." The latter of the two first appeared on her 1965 album Pastel Blues . It is a completely stripped-down, bluesy affair featuring nothing more than handclaps and some subtle hi-hat to accompany her a cappella vocals. It was penned by Simone's then husband and manager Andrew Stroud. The track lends itself to dramatic live performance and has long been a favorite of vocalists with the ability to carry the tune with little accompaniment. As captured on his Live at Sin-é [...]

Everybody loves this little purple man. He can sling a riff smoother than silk. Call him whatever you like Artist, Maven or a pompous Perfectionist he kows how to write a song so if you make it sound like shit it's because you suck. Little Red Corvette MP3 by Montagna & The Mouth to Mouth from their CD L'avenir . First time I heard this it took me totally by surprise. I mean what's not to like about a really well done Prince cover right? [...]

little mix - cannonball (uk x factor winners) [first of all, these lil muffins (tulisa's words, not mine) went from soloist to group act to underdogs to breaking the curse of the girl groups to eventual x-factor winners (a first for any group in the series). not only that but their solid work ethic showed week in week out AND no one seemed to throw a stroppy diva fit off camera. add to the fact that their big official single is a classic damien rice number and you have the ingredients for a respectable future girl band. i'm in!] [...]
This year's X Factor Winners Little Mix have unveiled their video for Cannonball, after hitting the number one spot in the UK singles chart last week. The original was by Irish singer song-writer and record producer Damien Rice , and originally hit the number 32 in the UK Charts. Following the X Factor release, it has now re-entered the charts and has hit the number 9 spot. That's the power of The X Factor for ya, in a nutshell. Little Mix - Cannonball [...]

Christmas, Three Years Ago, I started this blog. Every year of my life has been a blessing on many levels. Not so much on the blog front, but definitely on the personal front. This blog was made to help promote new music and a venting board for myself. It has done both and also been super time consuming. I love it at times and I also want to give it all up five minutes later. But I don't, not yet, tee-hee. This years Christmas Compilation - Culture PopMas 2011, is probably on my favorites from the last three years. As [...]

It's been a bit slow around here, huh? Sorry about that! I've been teaching three classes, working on a research project, and dealing with the Zombie Dissertation From Hell "! I really do want to be a good blogger again... honest. But until that day, it's time for a quick recap of some of the stuff that has gone whizzing by in my absence. I hope you enjoy! Recently, John Darnielle took to Twitter to give us a new Mountain Goats song in the form of the excellent, lo-fi "Thucydides II-58." You can read [...]
